Summer 08 Season Wrap

Well Team we come to the end of another exciting season of Schlidaveur hockey. This brings to a close the thrid full season of our new incarnation as two teams spawned from the original Cadavers Franchise. In that time you have to be happy with how things have gone. Three titles for the new Schlitz begining with Summer 07, continuing in Winter 08 (which was played against the Cadavers), and then Summer 08! Especially when you count that the Cadavers lost two championship games of thier own in that time. Thats 3 seasons, 3 championships, and 5 Championship Game Appearances. Wow, that's pretty good.

This season for the first time we were split into seperate divisions, both at the D level, but still had a number of Schlidaveur events during the season. There was really quite a bit of cross play between the divisions so it was really a transparent change. This did allow for both teams to make a nice playoff run, without having to play each other and possibly eliminate one of the teams.

Anyway we set off with high expectations, given past sucess and even added a few new faces to our humble band of skaters.

The summer started out with a bang for the Schlitz and a fizzle for the Cadavers but we were off and running. The early part of the season had its share of clunkers like this, and this one the night the Celtics won, and this wasn't good at all. The early going on the Schlidaveur events saw some interesting play also. The Campbelldaveur and Scorapaloozadaveur were both fun nights at the rink and were a bright spot in the tough early going. It took the third 'daveur and a momentous evening to get the Zombies thier first win, some six games in.
The next 'daveur came courtesy of GM Roman Kurin and was dubbed Reversedaveur. Things seemed to come around, despite ourselves, and both teams saw some success. This season also marked the begining of an interesting development with our Russian friends and their other team the Sitniks. We would watch them with interest as the season ended...
'daveur number five was another memorable team on team night with Jim Sullivan playing keeper for the victors! A few more bumps in the road, positve and negative and that would leave the Finaldaveur to wrap up the short summer season.
Both teams would start the playoffs strong. Zombies beat the 'suckas, and the Schlitz beat the Call. The Cads would continue to roll, but the Suds stumbled in game two against the Scapegoats. (we'd hear from them later too...). The Cadavers would win again and make their way to thier Championship game against El Tigre. That one didn't end the way we wanted, but the Schlitz still had hope thanks to a win against the Blues, and some help from the Sitniks.
That meant a Championship Game rematch with the 'goats. That one ended with the desired result. A nice way to finish out the season. Well played one and all.

There was another first this season... this one will be sure to become tradition. Hockey at the Beach. A great time had by all out on Duxbury beach well into the summer night.

Attached you will find end of season total stats, team statistics, and then a whole batch of Playoff numbers from this season.

Take a gander at that line from Scoring Champion Nelson Sharfman. That would be 26 points on 12 goals, 14 assists, in... get this 14 games played. Wow. Talk about production. Jim Sullivan is the only other player in the neighborhood with four less points in 3 more games played. Jim finsihed 3rd , statistically the head of a group of 3 players (Roman, and Larry) that finished with 22 points. Kevin Parker was second with 25 just falling short of the title. Everyone in this group of top five had an excellent season. Great work everyone.

Time to give out some Awards

MVP: Nelson Sharfman. See the aforementioned scoring title paragraph. Nelson always brings it, and is a constant reminder that hard work and effort is the only way to approach this game... that is... if you want to have any success. Great season Nelson.

Rookie of the Year: Mark Reynolds. Mark was the new addition this summer and instantly became a producer as a member of the Duxbury Duo when teamed with Pete Capraro on the ice. Mark played great for a guy who had been inactive for a few years before lacing them up again. Mark finished with 19 points on 17 games played, good for 6th place in the scoring. Mark was also a key organizer for the Hockey at the Beach event which went off without a hitch. Good job. Nice to have you aboard Mark.

Lady Byng: Dan Gregson. This is a new one. I'm going to give out to the guy who plays the most games without taking a penalty. This season Dan just edged out Scott Pounds with 21 games (Scott had 20) without going to the sin bin. Other notables were Sully (17), Matt Elliot (16) and Chuck Slate (15).

Vezina: Brian Carey. Brian did a great job in his first full season with the clubs. He had 17 games played and ended with a very solid 10-6-1 record and a 2.65GAA which is just about all you can ask for when playing D level hockey. Brian turned in a stout performance in the Schlitz Championship Game and picked up the only two shutout wins of the season against the 'suckas, and Last Call. Great work. Nice to have you aboard too.

Playoff MVP: Jim Sullivan. This one was tough. Jim had 7 points in 5 games including 5 total goals and an assist in the Suds Championship Game win. He just squeeked ahead of Larry (6 pts/5gms) and the duo of Valenti and Parker who both had 6pts/6gms. Heck we'll throw Jeff a bone and mention that he finished the playoffs with 5 in 7 to round out the top 5. Sully was solid and always a big contributor so he wins the Playoff MVP for this season. Great work.

Mike Campbell Award: Mike Campbell. No blurb necessary... But I will mention that the second place spot competition has picked up quite a bit with George and Valenti challenging regular favorites Larry and Hammitt for the PIMs title.

Great work everyone... I have to post this before the winter season is half over so that will be all from here. Please feel free to comment or add any tid-bits parking lot or otherwise to the comments section. Really... please comment.... thanks.

Winter 07-08 Wrap and Stats!

Winter 2007-2008 Season Wrap Up

Another successful year down in the books and this time not only did both teams make the playoffs but both teams made the Championship Game... twice. The Golden Schlitz managed to wrap up the First Winter Season Championship in either franchises history with a big win in a double-daveur. The Schlitz are now two time, back to back Champs and head into the Summer 08 season with a target on their backs.

This was a really fun season, lots of games, and a whiz bang finish... who could ask for anything more? Let's stroll down memory lane and take a look at the season that was...

Things got kicked off in chilly, crappy, I can't freaking believe I have to pay to park here, UMass a way back in October. Most of the games in October were at UMAlcatraz but there were promises and hopes for the second half of the season in hopes that we wouldn't be skating there all the time.
Before you knew it we were up to the first Schlidaveur of the 07/08 season. That one was noteable as Nelson took a turn in net for the Cads that night and won the game!
Thankfully he wasn't needed for the rest of the season, but due to Goaltender issues (injury, unavailability) Matt Kilroy ended up starting 13 games total during the season and played pretty well. Once again Managment puts it on the line for both clubs... way to go Matty. I wont mention his record for the year but his GAA of 4.69 wasn't too shabby for a beginner... and considering some of the games he played had some very high scores.
The Second Schlidaveur also was a good game, this one highlighted by a double 'cooning and a nice welt on Kevin Parker's thigh.... Not long after there was some serious grilling and some new and old blood added to the mix during and after Schlidaveur Round 3. November closed out with this blog err.. game err... whatever it was... I surely dont remember.
December didn't have a ton of action... or games, but we managed to slip in Schlidaveur Round 4 before the fat man came down the chimeny.
It wasn't long into the new year and CEO BMF Matt Kilroy got his First win in Net. Then there was the epic Campbell Poly-Pavillion Event under the lights at Mike's house. Pics too.
We found a new and exciting way to split the teams in Schlidaveur #5 going with the Goons vs the Lady Byngs... that didn't work out so well for the Byngs... this game also featured the debut of the six foot sammich!
The Schlitz closed out the month with another wild game against the Windsuckers that featured a number one star night for Ken Goldenberg.
Feburary had a couple special nights, despite only having a few games the whole month, but on the 5th we played a double header against the Clinic teams... that was special because it was the LAST GAMES AT UMASS! Woo Hoo!
Later on in the month the Return of Lizzy marked a wild night in Brockton.

Then the Schlidaveur Madness Continued with the 6th and final regular season installment. These teams were picked special.... Good Lookin' and Not So Good Lookin' and the rosters stuck for the coming playoffs.
Rookie Blake Underhill took Number One Star at the end of March in a nice win over the Lobsters.

Another great year ends in another Title for the Golden Schlitz... that has a nice ring to it.

Great work by everyone on the combined roster, and the subs, and the add-ons and the old friends visiting for a game or two... You all contributed to a successful year.
Feel free to add some comments about your favorite game of the season or any tid-bits you may recall from the Parking Lot or Locker Room.
The Blogger would like to personally thank all of the Guest Bloggers without whom the pages of the blog would be incomplete. Thanks very much for sending in your words, thoughts, and pictures, they were all great.

Well... I've got to get back to my rigorous offseason training routine.... "Why yes I think I would like the large Steak and Cheese, thank you..." I'm sure you are all doing the same.

Summer starts next week. See you then.

Summer of the Suds. 07 Summer wrap up.

Summer 2007 Season

Any time you end the last game of the year with the ref coming out and handing you a trophy... its been a good one. Granted, we had a statistical advantage over most other teams given that we had two squads to work with, it still says something that we were able to come away with the Division Championship.

Even though only 12 of us skated that night, everyone on the Schlidaveurs roster at one time or another wore the Gold this year and really we all share in the "glory" of the win. Everyone should be proud of our season, not really because we won a gaudy (cheap) trophy, but because we really had some great nights playing hockey, hanging out, and sharing our after work hobby over the last few months. Even better, in the blogger's opinion, that now we get to do it again over the winter.
So join me, follower of the blog, for a short stroll down memory lane as we recap our summer fun. Please chime in with comments on your favorite quote, game, goal, 4th period, whatever it might be so we can all remember the summer that was. Lord knows some of us need help with the whole "short term memory" thing.
The season (and blog) started all the way back in May with a pair of wins to get the double headed beast off and running. It wasn't long before we had our share of high notes and forgettable nights as the season kicked into gear. An early season highlight was Chris Fosdick winning a game for the Cads against the Generals with almost no time left on the clock. Of course with the good you always seem to have the nights that some of us wish we could forget.
It also wasn't long before we got a chance to get everyone on the ice as the first Schlidaveur event came around. This one was a tie... the only one that would end up being a tie. That is interesting if only for the fact that the summer before 4 of the 5 Schlidaveurs ended up in ties. This season wouldn't go like that as we were able to pick a winner each of the next 5 times we played each other.
The Second Schlidaveur was not much of a game numbers wise... but it made up for it with the fourth period debut of new team favorite Miran James. Miran was nice enough to (marry Greg) to come out and share her unbelieveable culinary talents with us and she pulled out all the stops on her first night. The blogger still resents that he wasn't there that night... This wouldn't be the last time we heard from Miran, and we hope she comes back as often as possible. She also kicked it this night... wait a second... I wasnt there either...damn! This is ridiculous. I know that I'm speaking for lots of us when we say Thank You to Miran for contributing greatly to our summer fun.

The season really got humming as we made it into July. Both teams had their chance to taste success and to feel the sting of a rough night at the rink. One of the Blogger's favorite games of the year came on the night that newcomer George Moorachian split his finger open and had to have the help of teammate Kevin Parker (another stellar rookie) to patch himself up for a ride to the emergency room. George was back in no time to round out a very nice rookie season with us. We look forward to his contributions for many seasons to come.
Back to the Schlidaveur department. Schildaveur number three was a really fun game that had it all. Thanks to some late addition substitutes we had enough numbers to fill out the rosters and had a great night of competition. This one also featured possibly the best fourth period photo of the season thanks to the Parker and his Flying Nutbag shirts. The fourth Schlidaveur starred another pair of outstanding newcomers Jim Sullivan and Matt Elliot. Both of these guys were great addidions to our little band of skaters and we were really glad to have em. Jim finished third in scoring by the end of the season and Matt finished ninth despite missing a good portion of the end of year because of some lame excuse like getting married or something. Seriously guys thanks for joining and we look forward to having you with us down the road. Jim will be out for the winter but we expect him back for more fun next summer. This game also had the first Schlidaveur videos to hit the scene... a nice touch. The fifth Schlidaveur was another humm dinger featuring a big nights from Dangerous Dave Spenciner who really played great all year and finished seventh in scoring by the end, and Mike Gash who recorded yet another shutout. This game also had some nice action between Matvey Nikhamik and Mike Hammitt despite the blogger's family being in attendence. You've got to love when the competitive juices get going.
Another favorite of mine at this point in the season was the night Mike Jasse put four goals up after coming out of nowhere... well St. Louis... yeah I guess nowhere. And who could forget the night that Mad Matt strapped on the goalie gear and came away with a terrific win. That was awesome.
Ok... before I type myself into next week... lets move on to the playoffs where the inevitable Schlidaveur number six (playoff edition) came down. This was one for the ages. The Zombie roster came into this one with everything to gain but nothing to loose thanks to their two previous playoff losses. The only thing they had to hold onto was the chance to knock the Suds out of the possible Championship Game. Well the Zombies won that one but it didn't keep the Suds out of the Title Game so really everyone won. That game was recent enough that I think we all remember what happend there and the nice shiny trophy we brought home for the whole team to enjoy.

I know you'll be asking (Larry) so here are the stats.
This one here to the left is the combined scoring for all games played by everyone all year. Larry Bell once again finishes in the top spot with a huge 28 points over 18 games played.
Great job by Veteran Nelson Sharfman who ended with 27 and almost unseated Larry from that top spot. Big Kudos also for regulars Mike Jasse, Jeff Fosdick, Chris Fosdick, Matvey, and Dangerous Dave, who along with rookies Sully, Elliott, Parker rounded out the top ten. Excellent work by everyone.

Ok just a couple more things...well awards before I go out the door.

The Mike Campbell Award goes to Mike... wait a second. Is this right? MC didn't win his own award? Wow. Mike Hammitt wins the Campbell award with a gaudy 19 penalties and a whopping 34 minutes in penalty time. Sorry Hammitt, but another blowout season like this and management is going to have to rename this the Hammitt award. Campbell did finish second...
The Unexpected Weapon Award goes to Dangerous Dave Spenciner. Dave finishes with 14 total points on 9 goals and 5 assists. Dave brought it all year and really made an impact. Great season dude.

Rookie of the Year goes to Jim Sullivan. This was a though one especially since Kevin Parker finished with only 1 less point in the same number of games. Sully's hat trick in the Championship Game put him over the top. That being said Parker gets MAJOR PROPS from managment given that he missed the Championship game because he had Heart Surgery! Honorable mention to Matt Elliott... man a lot of good newcomers this year.

The Vezina Trophy has to go to Mike Gash. OEJ or Dr. Zero if you prefer ended the season with 5 shutouts (including one in the playoffs) and a stunning 1.53 GAA. Thanks dude. You turned in a great year. Honorable mention to Blogger favorite Lizzy who had her ups and downs but had a shutout of her own and never ever let us down when we needed her, and Mad Matt who had 2 starts and held the fort well. Keep up the good work.

The Fourth Period Award goes to.... The crew that stuck around that night in Brockton until 2am. How this wasn't featured in the blog I'll never know. I believe that group consisted of Mike Hammitt, Lizzy DeFlurin, Kevin Manning, and Scott Pounds. Way to go gang. On a team wher often the fourth is our best period, you've made us proud.

Speaking of Matt Kilroy. He gets major props for just being Matt. Dude puts up with all the scheduling and emails and then has to listen to the Blogger talk to himself while he trys to cobble together this space each week. Plus the guy shows up and straps on the goalie equipment from time to time to help the club... a true team player. Matt busts his ass for all of us and as CEO, CFO, GM, and all around BMF, he deserves a hearty thanks from all. Thanks.

Alright. Thats it from here. The Blogger thanks all of you for reading and I invite you back for the winter season that starts next Monday. Again, please post in the comments section, I'm sure I've left out about a million things that should get mentioned. So lets see 'em. See you all next week.

Winter Wrap up.

A good season for the 06-07 Cadavers despite ending up under .500 .
10-14-3 including playoffs with only 1 forfit win. Really we had a rough start, a great streach in the middle, then an even rougher finnish.
We started out shaky losing 3 out of 4 games in both October and November. We seemed to catch our stride though and for December and January we were a nifty 7-2-2, with both ties and one loss coming in the last 4 games of that period. We had 7 total games in January. The end got grizzly going 1-3-1 in February and March then 0-3 in our playoff games.

Some things to think about while looking back, and giving out stars for the season....

We lost Larry Bell on January 22nd to a bad knee injury and he was done for the season. Larry was our points (and penalty) leader and obviously we missed him a lot. The grim facts are that from that night forward we were 2-7-2 and one of the wins a forfit. Larry sat out the last 10 games and still won the scoring (and penalty) title(s). This earns him 1st star of the season. Larry's numbers were 23 pts, 14 goals, 9 assts for a solid 1.353 PPG average. All this in just 17 games played. He also wins the Mike Campbell award for most PIMs with 16 penalties for 26:30mins, and 2 ejections. Way to let 'em know you're there.

Lizzy had a great season for us finishing up with a 3.56 GAA in 16 games. At one point she had a 6 game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) culminating with a beauty of a shutout on Feb 8th against the Dead Rabbits that also marked our last win of the season. Great job Liz you get the 2nd star for the season. The great thing about this season for you was the way you improved from the beginning to end and always turned in gutsy performances week in and week out. Thanks again.

My choice for 3rd star is Dan (with hands) Hebert, in his first full season with our motley crew. Technically he finished third in team scoring (mere % points behind Chris Fosdick) with a line of 15pts, 8 goals, 7 assts and a 0.682 PPG., but he played more games (22 as opposed to 18) and had an overall larger impact on our success as a team (sorry 'bro, you had a good season too...see below). It was always nice to Dan back there on the point settling things down, clearing things out, and often times just making stuff happen on both ends of the ice. Great season Dan thanks for the effort every night.

Honorable mentions go out to:

Mike Gash - Great job all season. Nice 2.10 GAA with a 4-4-2 record. Thanks.
Chris Fosdick - Second in team scoring, 15 pts, 5 goals, 10 assts, 0.833 PPG. Could have had about 8 more goals...but thats why we play the games. Good job.
Matt Kilroy - Our franchise GM, leader in all things organizational, only plays in 8 games and scores 8 points for a very productive 1.00 PPG average. Thanks for everything Matt.

Great job everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to post the complete season stats for you to peruse on your own. No awarding of the Racoon of Shame for the season, we all live with him just a little for the way we played down the stretch. This was a fun season and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the Summer Schlidavers coming up soon.
Thanks for reading.
