Cadavers ... a night in the Fog

Cadavers(7) vs. Double Runners
Wednesday June 27th
7:00pm Milton Academy

7-4 Loss.

Its only appropriate that the flying Zombies played in eerie circumstances on Wednesday night, unfortunately it did not lead to any sort of advantage for the crew in red. By all the accounts coming in to the blogger this was a very close and winnable game for the skating dead and almost every account included that word that we don't like to hear...ringer. Of the Double Runners 7 goals four were scored by an individual who looked a little out of place. We've run into this before with this team... so it should come as no surprise.
Given that the Cads were short on regular defensemen, and the presence of the ringer, it sounded like a great effort by all involved in a game that was a 1 goal differential right up to the final minutes.
The zombies took a couple of penalties that ended up costing, but by no means did it sound out of the ordinary. We have to expect 1 or 2 a night anyway...and 2 total isn't bad.
The rink was very hot and foggy and besides that there were no water bottles...management apologizes...until Lizzy's Mom hooked the team up with a big save.
Goal scoring came from Kevin Parker, Jim Sullivan, Roman Kurik, and "Dangerous" Dave Spenciner. Helpers from Nelson Sharfman, Matvey Nikhamik, Kevin, and Dan Gregson.
If I've left anyone out please let me know...
Lets take a look at some first hand accounts from some of the players.

Here's one from the defensive corps:
"...we were in it until the last 3 minutes (down by one but right there the whole game) and then broke down. I personally gave up at least 2 in the last 2 minutes where I laid perfect passes on the sticks of the opposing team right in front of the net for unencumbered goals. Lizzy didn't stand a chance with my performance last night.
Wrought with guilt .... The lingering over this will cause an ulcer for sure. Slight sprain to my left wrist and a goober of a blister on my left foot because I didn't tie up my skates tight enough were just salt in the wound. Sore and pissed."
A little hard on himself in the blogger's opinion but an excellent feel for the end of the game.
Here's another account:
"...a goal scored both times I was in the box and I totally screened Lizzy on a third, I thought I had the angle covered and the kid shot around me and she never saw it. ... Let's see, it was hot as hell in the rink, but the ice was good. We had no water, so Lizzy's Mom went and bought us some ... We really could have beat these guys but penalties were costly... "
Also a bit harsh on himself but we get the point....
Here's one from Dangerous Dave concerning his goal and the game:
" It was maybe my best re-direct ever. I was sitting in the crease screening the goalie getting slashed in the back of the knees and just nudged in a shot from the point. Their goalie never had a chance to react and it went in. ...The rink was balmy w/ fog on the ice and the locker room had to have been 95° w/ 100% humidity. Somehow, no one had the team water bottles. Then, Lizzie's mom showed up and had the water for us. I'm not sure which tasted better: the Poland spring agua or those crab rangoons from a coupla weeks ago"
Great job Dave...you continue to live up to your new nickname.
Now one about Roman's goal:
"Roman scored the 3rd one while being chased by some guy from their team from our blue line trying to hack Roman thinking that he tripped him on purpose :), ... Roman was very determinted to take it to the net from one of the corners, and was able to beat the goalie, after having several great chances earlier in the game."

Good solid reporting team, the blogger wants to thank everyone who contributed to the game story here. Specifically....GJ, MH, DG, NS, MN, RK, DS, and DD. Anyone with more to add is welcome to add a comment to the post...this goes for any game story posts on our home sweet blog....

Uncommon for a loss...but lets do game stars....
3rd Star: DJ. She picked up the score sheet and verified the numbers and rundown of the game. Thanks Deb...way to lookout for the blogger..he is in your debt.
2nd Star: Kevin Parker. A goal and an assist plus all around good play. Thanks for coming out and contributing.
1st Star: There was no debate here at all. Lizzy's Mom. Our number one fan comes up huge with the purchase of a bunch of water bottles on a night when the team really needed it. (management apologizes...again). Not only can we count on her daughter to give her best every night, but we know Moms got our back. Thank you very much.

Good work to everyone who skated.
Zombie Pride ...endures.
Go Zombies.

Power Suds! Schlitz shut down the Blues!

Schlitz(7) vs. Blues
BU 9:10pm , June 26th

3-0 Shutout Win!

This one would have made Lizzy proud. Nice matchup with our old friends the Blues last night at storied Walter Brown Arena. Started off the night looking thin on bodies...but true to late arriving form we rounded out to eleven. An early locker room scare over the dissapearence of one of DWH's skates was quickly resolved when DWH went back tracing his steps and found the skate in a row he had walked down. This was a good omen for the Schlitz who were able on this night to change the "Dreaded Yellow" into the "Glorious Gold" in three short periods. Yes the Suds are back. A couple wins in a row, one being a shutout, ( I know the first was the Schlidaver but...hey a couple wins is a couple wins...right?) and the Gold are back on track now sporting a .500 record of 3-3-1.
Nice effort in the early going as the teams felt each other out, the Gold mounted several chances and passes in the offensive zone. As the First wound down we were holding it in the Blues zone with a nice forecheck by Dan Gregson and solid play from both points DWH & Mike Campbell. Gregson held the puck in the left corner then fed Jeff Fosdick (playing forward) on the right side behind the net. DWH was closing in yelling "pass, pass" and both Blues in the area drew right to him. Catching a glimpse of George "Ace" Moorachain in the slot I slid the puck out to him and he made a great finish putting it past the golie on his right side. 1-0 Suds with about a minute and a half left in the period. Nice.
The second went much the same. Campbell made a trip to the box 3:30 into the period but the Gold held on. The blues held it in our end until a slight fumble by one of the defensemen led to a turnover and breakaway for Jeff F. Remarkably he was able to finish the play with a wrist shot low on the keepers right side for a 2-0 lead on the shorthanded goal. Sweet.
Not to be left out of the fun DWH pressed and forced a great turnover and breakaway for himself that put the Suds up 3-0 with 4 minutes left in the second.
Usually a lead like that makes me nervous. The gold was lookin' tired but we kept up the effort throughout the third and held on for a really nice feeling shutout win. Mike Gash played terrific all night long stoping many, many chances on his doorstep.
This brings me to Stars of the game.....

3rd Star. Matt Kilroy. A nice effort all night and a "team-guy" move by volunteering to be the rotating forward. Matt shifted through both lines nicely and there was not once any confusion about who was going on the ice. Great work.
2nd Star. At the risk of self indulgence I'll give it to myself for 1 shorthanded breakaway goal and a helper on George's ice breaker.
1st Star. Has to be the shutout man himself OEJ. Mike Gash has now got another zero to add to the collection he has earned while playing with the Schildavers. He has consistently turned in solid performances that keep us in games and in the win collumn. OEJ now has played 5 games this summer season giving up only 5 goals for a stellar 1.00 GAA. He has a 3-1-1 record in those games. Great job Mike, I agree with Kevin Manning's assesment...It was vintage Dennis Lemiux ...thanks.

Todays HM section is dedicated to "Where's the love for the D?" George Moorachain.

Honorable Mention 1: DWH. Terrific goal and excellent stabilizing play all night long. Its a treat to have him on the blue line.

Honorable Mention 2: Stephan Wennik . Stephan brought it all night, many time tangling with the one baddie on that squad...blue pants #35. Stephan stayed with him all night taking all kinds of bumps, chops, and holds along the way. I know he drew one of 35's penalties with his hard work and it might have been both.

Great job everyone. Get on the stick for tonight... I think the Zombies need players. If you can make it at all... send Kilroy an email. Also, anyone who skates...someone get the score sheet. Thanks.

Schlidaveur Rd 2 ... the blowout.

Cadavers (6) vs Schlitz (6)
Friday June 22
Bavis Arena 8:10pm
Schlitz 10 Cadavers 1
Woah. Alright. I knew the Suds were desperate for a win but...uh... this was ridiculous. Sounds like there was a little roster shifting just before gametime that the management has been taking a little heat on but we won't be having any of that. Many Suds were late in arriving and before you knew it there was a bit of a mis-match brewing. Sometimes things like this happen, given the number of these games that have come out as a tie we were probably due for one of these anyway.
In general the game sounded like a decent affair with the exception of the scoreboard. Good job to everyone who showed and played. Tough night for some....good night for others. Lets talk about some numbers. They tend to get crazy on nights like this....
Veteran Chris Fosdick had a great night with 6 points. Newby Matt Elliot was almost as good putting up 5 points. Larry Bell was not far behind with 4. Mike Gash obviously continued his strong work only giving up 1 and didn't have any problem with his scoring support.
Some other events of note during the game were sent in by the blogdom. The first concerned a Campbell - Pearlman Sandwich...with Mad Matt as the meat.
Here's one first hand account: " Kilroy was skating around like a man possessed, like a rabid raccoon on skates. So Mike gets him in the corner pinned against the boards with the puck... Kilroy squirming and grinding trying to get away from Campbell...but can't....meanwhile I'm watching the front of the net in case he gets loose....he's not getting loose from Campbell so I skate over, Campbell see's me coming and we SANDWICH Kilroy against the boards. I almost got away with it when the ref put up his arm and told Campbell he was going off...when I hear Campbell yelling at the ref 'WHAT??? You gotta take Pearlman too!!!' so he did and we both went to the box. Ref comes over to the box and says 'you guys are gonna have to earn this shutout'. About 40 seconds later they score."
Nice recap. Can you imagine being stuffed by Pearlman AND Campbell. I shudder to think. Other accounts described a blanket of yellow that came together and removed the Red Zombie (Mad Matt) from sight.
Another incident also involved Campbell (no surprise) and went like this:
"During a battle for the puck in front of one-eyed Jack (OEJ), typically mild mannered DJ got popped by OEJ's waffle and was sent sprawling. Matters were worsened when Campbell fell on her. For a split second, I thought she was going to come up swinging. She was steamin'!"
I bet she was. I'd be steaming (or wheezing) if Campbell fell on me too....
Now that we have that stuff out of the way lets get to the real story behind Schlidaveur #2. Of course the story takes place on the hallowed ground of the parking lot....like so many of our memorable moments. The story of the game was the food brought by rising star Miran James. Here is how the blogdom described the scene:
"The fourth period was visited by the Korean cooking Gods..."
"One word, Blogger-friend o' mine. SUSHI! We've reached a new level. Do you believe we had friggin sushi in the parking lot? It was almost embarassing. The Schlidaveurs events are becoming epic. SUSHI! AND CRAB RANGOON!...AND SPRING ROLLS!"
In the bloggers humble opinion this is just about as good as it gets. Miran is quickly earning the love and respect of Schlidaveurs everywhere with her consistent first-rate culinary contributions. We raise a glass (or bottle) to you Miran. You are welcome with us anytime...even if we kick Greg off the team.
Lets do game stars....
3rd Star: Matt Elliott. *UPDATE* Matt had a different tally on points so it is officially now 2 Goals and 3 Assists for 5 on the night. Nice job...we'll be expecting more from you from now on son....
2nd Star: Chris Fosdick. 2 Goals and 4 Assists for a gaudy 6 point night. Great job...guess you weren't too tired out from your honeymoon...
1st Star: Is there any doubt...? Miran James. Sushi. Spring Rolls. Crab Rangoon. Cookies.... this girl is a multiple threat. You can't defend her. She dominates the 4th Period...and we love her(and thank her) for it. The only lingering question is how she landed with such a chump like Greg. Just kidding Greg...thanks for the pics and thanks for not leaving Miran at home!
Honorable Mention 1: "Doctor" Scott Pounds for a goal and an assist.
Honorable Mention 2: "Doctor" Michael Jasse also for 1 goal and a pair of helpers.
Some pics from the glory of the fourth period....

Friday Night Mini-daveur...they did it all for the cookie!

Cadavers vs. Streetcones
Pick up game
Friday June 15 Bavis 920pm

Big fun from the game that was then wasn’t then was again. The cadavers played a fill in game to help out the other team and it didn’t show. Nice. We'll have to remember that if the Streetcones number ever comes up again for either squad. The upside was that the whole thing turns into a mini-daver with those of us not fully dressed at realization (that there was no opponent) switched and wore the dreaded yellow.
Soon we had talked a few guys (already having a few cold ones) from the previous game and it turned out that the extra goalie equipment was in “da house” so soon we had a full on pick up game with two keepers (thanks to Kilroy) and plenty of skating.
First off don’t ever underestimate the power of Kilroy between the pipes. His squad of flying Zombies played strong scoring first and keeping a tentative lead through most of the game. It wasn't long before Mad Matt was "in the groove" and practicing his "goalie twitch". Of course all this was WAY too much for brother-in-law Mike Campbell who just had to get his shots in. Campbell in a magificent (rare) display of speed and agility cruised into the zone and fired a blazing wrister past the befuddled (but not discouraged) goalie.
Things went back and forth on this one until the game was tied 5-5 and the hour was getting on. The Zombies jumped out to a quick 3 goal lead potting a few quick ones past our gal Lizzy. Some highlights as I recall from the game as it got late were this. (all stats are rough but reasonable estimates).
1. Kenny Goldenberg scores 1 and assists on 3. Always where he needs to be. He did the suds proud.
2. Larry Bell gets the uncontrollable giggles after spinning the blogger around (twice) on his way to one of his 2/3 goals and a few assists on the night. I think it made his season so far. He must be feeling better. I'm just glad I could be a part of it.
3. DJ also skating hard for the Schlitz and winning a big battle to the puck in her own end against "Dangerous" Dave Spenciner. Too bad we didn't get her more shots on Kilroy. I know she had the stuff to get one by him.
4. So the game is getting late. A few guys start departing for the Zombies and the Yellow makes a comeback late. The suds muster 3 relatively quick goals as the Zamboni driver is getting ready to open his gates. Thats right TIED 8-8 and we call "next goal wins". The next rush up the ice Nelson (proudly wearing the handsome yellow) gets a clean break on Mad Matt and ...and.... Matt stuffs the chance and Nelson is left shaking his head over the chance that was. No more than a minute later the Red Zombies score and the 'boni driver hits the gate and the game is over.
Nice finnish to a fun game...even though the Streetcones didn't show.
Stars of the game.
3rd: The guys from the other teams that filled out the rosters so we could have a game.
2nd: Whoever scored. You know who you are.
1st: "Mad" Matt Kilroy for a surprise 9-8 win between the pipes.
The fourth period was very well represented (being Friday night) and all kinds of goodies were to be had. Greg James brought a few bags of cookies (but left his wife at home) that truly enhanced the postgame. Nelson even had to stay. "I don't ever stay for beers. But cookies? Cookies I can stay for."
There was even leftover high-life and freshies from Matt and Campbell.
Soon we were talking nonsense about Comic book characters and their awful big-screen representations... and then watching air-drop videos on George Moorachain's PDA.
Honorable Mention: Miran James. Thanks for the great cookies. Don't let Greg make you stay home again. You are welcome any time.
Overheard in the Parking Lot 1: "We used to call it 'getting it over with'"
Overheard in the Parking Lot 2: "Hey. I think Lizzy just peed in the woods." Nevermind that there are no woods at the Bavis arena and NOBODY should be commenting on what or where their teammates do during postgame....because they might be the next one singled out.
Overheard in the Parking Lot 3: " Nelson is having another, should we take his keys?" "What, after 2 cookies?"

Zombie pride...to the finish.

Cadavers (5) vs. Double Runners
Wednesday June 13th 10:00pm
Brockton
4-2 loss.

A rematch with the team that really stuffed it to the Schlitz a week ago. The week before the Runners definitely had some added talent that was not with them this week. This week they resembled the team that the Cads beat 4-0 back in game 2. These guys are very similar to us....older some talent but not much in the way of mobility or scoring touch. They did however get plenty of chances against us and despite a very strong comeback peformance by our gal Lizzy, hung 4 goals on us in the first two periods. Most of those goals were not even close to being her fault given that on 2 occasions the guy scoring was parked right out front (my guy both times) and on another they got about 15 chances to put it away as most of the Zombies on the ice watched.
This leads me to the second intermission. I looked around at the pained faces of our crew and while trying to catch my breath muttered something about putting something on the board to save our dignity. Well.... we did just that.
Mike Hammitt scores on a nice "seeing eye" slapper from the point to break the ice and the Zombies responded. No question we spent the majority of the third period in their end making them adjust to our game. Matt Elliott follows that with a nice goal right in front on a feed/rebound from Dan Gregson and Kevin Manning. We were the living dead again! Despite the fact that everyone was tired and strugging to make it to the end we did the Zombie colors proud. In the Blogger's opinion its hard to ask for anything more than the effort I saw from all of you in the third. You all delivered, and saved us (a little) face. Its hard to feel good about losing 4-2 but looking back, I do feel pretty good about that fact that we didn't just fold up our tents and go home (which we certainly could have done).
Sitting next to my D partner Kevin on the bench I kept hearing "snakebit...not going our way... no good bounces for us..." that kind of thing. Looking back I have to agree. There were several times when things could have bounced slightly differently and we would have had a number of goals and therefore a totally different game. Not our night, but again I was proud of the effort.
Other notable occurances:
Late in the third Matvey Nikhamik got tangled up with one of their guys (a blowhard) and ended up in a scuffle. They end up in a heap and we have a little pushing and shoving around until the zebras calmed it down. Mr.Hammitt managed to get an ill-advised "third man in" shot from behind but got away with it. He skates on that one given his improved behavior of late and the nice goal. The end result of all of this was a wash in penalties but Matvey had to hit the road. He earned an ejection for fighting and we have some new competition for the Mike Campbell award. Even though he was ejected Matvey's incident was decidedly un-coon worthy.
Game stars...ahhh screw it.
Kudos:
Lizzy for a nice bounce back game against these guys.
Hammitt for the ice breaker and knowing when to skate away.
Matt Elliott for the goal in front....and bringing beer.
Scott Pounds...for bringing beer as well ...Miller High Life even...nice touch.

Lets keep up the good work Zombies...
See you all at the Schlidaveur next Friday!

Suds circle drain....self inflicted loss.

Schlitz(5) vs Tigers
Tuesday June 12th 10:00pm Hingham A
3-1 Loss.

Another tough night at the rink in a season that is quickly turning sour for our heroes in Yellow. By all accounts a very tight game with strong efforts by everyone involved. It seems the Schlitz led the game 1-0 for most of the evening. A few penalties here and there but nothing major, a number of scoring chances but (reccurring theme alert) no finishing touch.
Skating with the lead with about 9:00min remaining the Tigers gained an odd man rush and scored to tie the game. That is apparently when the (reccuring theme alert 2) Gamma Bomb went off.
Apparently immediately after advising M.Campbell to "Be Cool" Pete Capraro ran into some difficulty. Several eyewitness accounts couldn't describe the origin of the incindent but everyone saw the result. "Yard Sale" Capraro went toe to toe with a big defenseman from the Tigers.
Here's one acocunt:
"I see Capraro skating towards their guy swinging his fists like a Rock'Em-Sock'Em, landing body and head blows. "

Here's another:
"...but he did his best impression of a Hanson Brother. A tossed stick, a take down and a kick later; he was escorted to an early shower."

Ok lets here from (hmm cant decide if "Yard Sale" or "Gamma Boy" is better) the man himself. I personally like the "talk like Hulk" bit.... Here it is from a day after email:
"Jump off bench, skate toward zone, freight train slams my body, feet far
above head, back of head hits ice before any body part, come to, attack
other man, other man lands on top of me, I kick him with my skate in
gut, I very mad, I throw stick at wall, I tell ref to call penalty, ref
says we have to work, I say not by allowing freight trains on ice, I
escorted off ice, I pack bags angrily, I come out of locker room, I
throw bag against glass, I leave.
I come to about 1:31PM this afternoon."

Excellent recap. Unfortunate timing. The Tigers score the go ahead on the ensuing powerplay, then add an empty netter in the waning minutes. Once again we die from a self inflicted wound. A tough one to take in what sounded like a winnable game. In all seriousness we really need to remember to keep our heads and stay on the ice if we want to have a chance at winning some of these games. We all get carried away sometimes(this was just Pete's moment) and its hard with the competitive juices flowing I know(I've been known to say and do some foolish things too), but we need all of our skaters to come away with a W. All we can do is try our best. Lets keep at it.

I'm thinking no stars on this one. But we will give out some Kudos....
1st mention: DWH#39. The only goal....unassisted.
2nd mention: The formerly missing goalie. Again a solid night inbetween the pipes, keeping us in the game. At some point we will muster some run...err goal support for him.
3rd mention: Probably an update in 'Coon's corner this morning.
4th mention: There were several complaints to managment about the lack of beer for this game. The Management of Schlidaver Industries wishes to express a heartfelt apology to all those left thirsty at the end of this game. Watch the blog for a new "Beer Czar/Roster" feature....coming soon.
5th mention: Thanks go out to all contributers to the blog. MC, iJ, KM, ....PC. Your emails are essential to construction of this space.
Better luck next time Suds....lets get this thing together before the season really does circle the drain.

Team Stats at the quarter pole. *UPDATE/CORRECTION*

Team statistics at the quarter season mark. Four games played for each team (including 1 Schlidaver) out of a 15 game regular season.

Click on the image to actually read the stats. I haven't figured out how to make it big enough to read in the post.
Let's get to some highlights.

The leaderboard in points has some interesting entries. Big Ups to Dangerous Dave Spenciner holding onto the #2 spot. Dave is off to a great start, tied for the team lead in goals (3) with upstart Pete Capraro and (greybeard...ahem...veteran) Chris Fosdick. Pete, Dave and Dan Gregson round out the "new blood" top five nicely. (The aging Fosdick brothers are the other two...just happy to make the games).
* WOW. Good save by Nelson on the Stat Department missing two of his assists. They were indeed lost in the spreadsheet. That changes our top five slightly with the inclusion of "Lunch-pail Veteran" Sharfman. We can always count on Nelson's gritty approach and work ethic to get results. Good catch Nelson. Consider this a full retraction and apology from the Statistical Analysis Division.*
Good work by both goalies, with Lizzy carrying most of the load and doing a bang up job.

Larry Bell continues his aggressive dominance of the soon to be renamed "Mike Campbell Award" catagory with a strong line of 3 penalties, 8 minutes, and 1 ejection in 3 games played. Larry has also gained a spot in 'coon's corner and probably can't wait for someone to take that spot away from him. All ribbing aside I have a feeling that the points leaderboard has NOT seen the last of Larry Bell....just give him...and his knee some time.

I think in general we have played well. No question that we have brought in some good "new blood" to round out our summer rosters. In particular, Jim Sullivan has shown some nice offence and mobility, Matt Elliott, Kevin Manning and George Moorachian all look like they can help the club(s) big time. Glad to have you all aboard. Also notable is the return of Mike Hammitt who has done an excellent job staying on the ice and in the game so far this season.

Keep up the good work everyone. Let's see how many games we can win over the next four for each team.

The Suds go down...not so easy.

Schlitz(4) vs. Double Runners.
Canton 7:10 June 6th
Loss.
Well....that didn't go the way we wanted it to. Anyone who was left standing in the parking lot about an hour after the game was over will get the donkey photo....Suffice it to say, we played like drunk donkeys...even though I'm pretty sure we were all sober at the start of the game.
To be honest I didn't think that as a team we played all that poorly. We had lots of chances and worked thier zone fairly well. The Runners had a bit of a talent upgrade from the last time we played them. They picked up a guy at gametime that scored 4 for them...but there is no way I'm playing the "ringer" card on this one. We got smoked and that is that. Just remember, we will see these guys at least one or two more times in the near future. This will provide plenty of opportunity for payback, and I suggest we focus on that when their number comes up again.
I'm not giving stars for this game, but in an effort to "keep things positive" I will give out some thanks and kudos.
1st. Our number 1 fan, Lizzy's mom. She stayed and watched the whole thing....like a car wreck in slow motion. A true hockey fan (and mom)...we thank her for her support.
2nd. Goal scorers. DWH (Dan with hands) via Nelson and Dave. Jeff Fosdick and "Dangerous" Dave Spenciner, both unassisted. DWH is always a steady contributer. Dave continues his torrid run with a low slapper that slipped right through the keepers feet. Mine was a slapshot from medium high in the zone (d played soft) to the low far corner. Felt good but didn't do much for us.
3rd. Lizzy. I know that it was definitly not your night but you kept your chin up and tried your best to the end and that's all we can ever ask of you. You know how the blogger feels about you...especially when you bring beer. We love ya babe, and we know you'll come back strong the nest time.
4th. The fourth period survivors. Mike Hammit, Dan Gregson, Lizzy and Jeff. We tried hard to take the sting out of that one...good thing the game was early.
Overheard in the parking lot 1:
"...perfect...like...like perfect teardrops on a popsicle stick..."
Overheard in the parking lot 2:
"Do those guys have a tv? ...I think thats a tv."
"Crap we even lost the 4th period."
"No freaking way...those guys played the game AFTER us."
"Oh yeah...the pussies we played are long gone."
"Yeah, them and their ringer...grumblemublegrmble..."
That's all for now, I plan to post quarter season stats later on today. Get your emails to Matt on your preference for next week (Tues or Weds) and start planning for the next Schlidaveur on Friday the 22nd.
The score last night was 11-3.

Cadavers(4) vs. Generals 2-1 Win!

Cadavers(4) vs. Generals.
June 4 10:30pm Quincy

2-1 Win!

Come from behind and last second! Woo-Hoo!
Nice job Cads. A decent turnout (after a few bailouts) for a late Monday night game in the Q. From reports that have been coming in this morning it was a tight game, up and down and the Cads had lots of chances. However, it seems our Zombies were down 0-1 until at least the middle of the third period, trailing a very beatable Generals squad who's goalie was having an epic night. Thats when the fireworks started.

Lets take it right from a game account from one of our own: "...Then down 1-0 late in the 3rd period. I [iJosh] scored to tie the game from the slot (from George and Roman). Then with about 8 seconds left in the game the man who will no longer be a bachelor[Chris Foz], took a pass and crossed over the blue line. Took a wicked shot and with 1 second left on the clock we had a 2-1 lead. "

Another account went like this: "We played against Iron Man goalie last nigh, but your brother had THE most classic 1 second left finishing shot to win the game, that man deserves a harem of naked women."

[Dont tell any of the Muslim extreamists that they can get this treatment without killing themselves....our league will be overrun.]

Now that's a nice way to finnish the game! Way to go Zombies! A come from behind win is always exciting no matter what the level. Big Kudos to all of you.

Lets get right to the stars of the game.

3rd Star- Mike Gash. The triumphant return of the keeper continues. Mike is well on his way to constructing an impressive GAA (1.00) this season. Way to go Mike. Good game.

2nd Star- iJosh Greenstein. A third period goal to tie the game from George and Roman. Described by one as a "wicked wrister". Great job Josh. You also get kudos for your game summary email. The blogger appreciates all contributions.

1st Star- What else can you say? Chris Fosdick for an impressive, timely, wicked awesome slapshot, go ahead goal with...that's right, 0:01 left on the clock! That is just about as good as it gets. Given that we are going to lose Chris to his impending nuptuals and ensuing honeymoon for the next couple of games, this was a tremendous contribution. Nice job 'bro. All our best to you from the Suds and the Zombies this coming weekend.

Schlidaveur Rd 1 goes to...your sistah. 1-1 Tie!

Cadavers(3) vs Schlitz(3) Canton June 1 9:30pm 1-1 tie.
They say ties are like kissing your sister....well there you have it. You bunch of sister kissers ended up all knotted up at 1 on Friday night. Sounded like a good turnout and a fun game up and down the ice. Your humble blogger was more than a little upset at not being there. However...the news of the night was this. Back from his tour of Europa and the "sub-continent" on the back of a wobbly red tandem bike...administrator extrodinaire Matthew Kilroy! Yee haw. Welcome back Matty.

Matt wins 1st star of the game honors for a surprise skate, the pizzas for fourth period and for overall being a nice guy. Way to go Matt.
2nd Star of the game goes to Pete Capraro. By all accounts a nice goal to tie the game on a feed from D.J. Pete was boosted into second place by his involvment in the game's most celebrated incident. More on that later....
3rd Star goes to "Dangerous" Dave Spenciner! A nice goal while camped out front. Why is Dave "dangerous"? CUZ HE SCORES! Way to be there Dave.

Honorable Mention 1: Both goalies. Nice job giving up only 1 to both of you. Mike...nice to have you back dude. By all accounts you both had very solid games.
Honorable Mention 2: Mike Jasse. Way to go bringing your camera and providing the early pics from this game. Thanks man....your blogger friend is in your debt.

Incident of the Game: Goes to "Rampaging Hulk-like" Stephan Wennik! I didn't see it but accounts of Stephan's "massive" hit on Pete Capraro have been burning up my inbox all day.

Here is one report...."At the end of the 3rd period with the score tied 1-1, Stefan thought he saw Pete taking some liberties with a teammate in the Schlitz crease. Thinking of all the hacks and slashes Pete had dealt him throughout the game, he charged in from the blue line and hit him with a nice high cross check. The ref somehow thought this deserved a penalty."

Another from Pete himself: "I was sitting on the bench taking a sip from my water bottle 40 seconds after the whistle blew, when out of nowhere mild mannered Clark Kent turned into the raging incredible Hulk and unleashed his fury upon me, doing a Pete Rose across the boards into my upper torso, resulting in significant dishevelment."
I'll let it go this time but dude...the Hulk's alter ego was Dr. Bruce Banner. Sheesh.

A victim of Caprapo's "enthusiasm" had this to say: "...the only thing that I'd add is a bit of context on the Stephan vs Pete hit toward the end of the game. Pete had high/lowed me over his goalie (mike) b/c I had hooked him a few minutes earlier (and gotten away w/ it). Pete's comment at the time was something like, "don't worry about it; I'll get you back..." So when pete had the chance to take me out, he did. Stephan saw the hit and rushed in to come to my aid. His hit on pete was both devastating and perfectly timed. In the end, we all came up smiles."

Finally my favorite account..."Stefan CLOCKED Pete Capraro-the hit came out of nowhere and sent Pete sprawling. Kudos to Pete for not retailiating....but Stefan should keep his head up during the next game!"

Indeed those boys are guaranteed to be playing opposite each other in the future.

Glad to hear everyone had fun and the 4th period was very well represented with a parking lot departure for several after 1am. Way to go team.
Overheard in the parking lot: " I used this poncho to keep the beer cold..."

Chris Foz and Larry on a rush.....

Post goal congrats for Dave
