Final Summah Daveur a tie

Cadavers (14) vs Schlitz (15)
Thursday August 26
Hingham 10:10pm

2-2 TIE

The final Daveur of the Summer 2010 season came around during prime vacation time so that's where the blogger was. Many of his teammates were out of town as well but there was still the core of the Schlidaveur Enterprise to pull together two squads and fight it out for Playoff Seeding rights. Larry would Gm the Cadavers and Mark Reynolds would manage the Suds. These guys worked out the following rosters and the game was on.

Red-Cads
Teddy - Goal
Larry
Hammitt
George
AK
Daley
Blake
Goody
Nelson
Greg J
Dan G
Roman
Baker

Gold- Suds
Brian – Goal
Reylolds
Capraro
Matvey
Pounds
DWH
John C
Matt E
Campbell
Eric
Jason
Parker

Again the Blogger was out of town so there is a limited tale to tell here. There haven't been any submissions from any of you pucksters so well have to piece this together as best we can.
Larry had this summary of the scoresheet to share.

Schlitz
DWH from Seaver
Capraro from Parker
Pen: Renolds, Campbell

Cads
Baker from Douville
Gregson from George
Pen: Greg James

Also not much description on the supposed 2 goals that the Red scored but weren't allowed. Anyone with some recollection here is welcome to comment.

Please.
Thats all we have for this one.

Baker-Hammit-Daveur a success!

CadBakers (6) vs GoldenHammits (8)
Thursday June 24th
Hingham 10:10pm

Cads 4
Cans 4

A great night for hockey in Hingham as the collective 'daveurs got together for another you guys pick 'em Schlidaveur event. Summer hockey at its finest on a blamy moonlit evening. This one was abley Captained by Mssrs. Hammitt and Baker for the Gold and Red respectively. They did a great job putting the rosters together and it resulted in a fun game.

The Blogger recalls (even at this late date... writing weeks afterward here) arriving at the rink and witnessing the CEOBMF and Blake Underhill locked in the heated battle of a chess match behind the CEO's truck in the parking lot. The CEO was clearly in control but Underhill was making him hurt despite his disadvantage in numbers.
The closing moves were saved for the postgame and apparently the CEO came out on top.
Here are your official rosters. DWH was awarded to the Gold via coin toss before the game.

Gold
D1: Daley; iJosh then DWH
D2: George & Jeff
Offense: Roman, AK, Matvey, Nelson, Hammit, Gregson, Pounds, (iJosh joined)

Red
D1: Campbell; Bauer
D2: Parker; Goodwin
Offense: Bell, Baker, Seaver and Elliot Carey, and Underhill, & Capraromatt smack talk to pete.

Now, at some point in the pregame locker room I believe AK asked the Russians (whom he was skating with) which sides they preferred to play on. To which Gregson added this tid bit
"it doesn't matter they still wont pass"
Ouch baby. Very ouch.

The game got underway and the teams went right after each other.
Kilroy in net for the Gold couldn't help himself after an early shot by good buddy Pete Capraro, and gave him a little smack talk about losing something that he had in his glove.
Pete responded and scored the first goal for the Red just a minute later. (he would also assist on the next goal) Kilroy would reconsider his smack talk policy there after.

Some time later in the first Nelson would take a nice break away down only to be met by Brian "long arm of the law" Carey who would actally make a double stop. He blocked the first and as Nelson whacked the rebound he would smother that too.

The Red would keep after it and Captain Steve Baker would score the next one (assist by Pete) from right in front of the CEO.
The Gold wasn't about to be silenced for the whole period and AK Douville would take a very nice end to end bid all the way around and would score on the wrap around on Brian just before the end of the period. After 1, 2-1 Red.

At this point DWH, who was late arriving would join the Gold and help out and the momentum stayed with the Beercans. Nelson would finish a nice drive to the net by Scott Pounds and the game would be tied just a few minutes into the second.

As happens so often in these games the momentum would shift and the Red would come right back to take the lead again. This time Mike Campbell would take a pass from John Carey and would race toward the CEO and just bury a nice goal past his brother-in-law. All that was missing was the applause. Red up 3-2.

The Gold would get one more in the second when Captain Hammitt would finish on a Gregson rebound that would tie the game again. End of 2, 3-3.

The third would see a grind it out finish, and this time the Gold would take the lead for the first time in the game as the play went around the red zone. Jeff Fosdick would take a loose puck at the point and would fire it toward the net. With the help of Kevin Parker's chest deflector the puck would find its way to the top corner and the Gold led 4-3.

The rest of the period was a straight out grind. Larry and the Dead in Red would pound the puck at the Gold and would take the play harder and harder to them. Matty would make a couple of just awesome saves on Larry shots during this time.

As the clock got small, the Red turned it on and Larry would break through with a poke it in under the pads move to tie the game. Seaver on the assist with good work in the zone. Just relentless work to tie the game.
And that was how it would end. 4-4 and who could ask for more?

4th period. Beautiful night full moon warm parking lot. Beers from all over... Limeys...

Zombies stomp Suds!

Cadavers (5) vs Schlitz (6)
Thursday June 10th
Hingham 10:10pm

Zombies 6
Beercans 1

This week's daveur was assigned guest gms and Matt Elliot (Cads) and Dan Gregson (Suds) met via conference all with upper management on Weednesday to choose out the sides. Each Captain selected his crew and the teams hit the ice Thursday night ot see how the matchups fared.

The out of town lines from Vegas and points West was that the Zombie roster looked like a strong bet to do well, and they lived up to potential. The Suds played hard all night and the game was close after one and somewhat in reach after two before going all Red by the end of the night.

Cadavers
Brian Carey in net
D: Valenti, Daley, Parker, Bauer
O1: Larry, Baker, Sharfman
O2: Capt. Elliot, Capraro, AK with John Carey in there too

Schlitz
Matty CEO BMF in Net
D: George, Jeff, Hammit, Reynolds
O: Neil, Roman centers
O/wings: Capt.Gregson, iJosh, KenMitch, Howard, Matvey and Dr.Pounds

The Suds knew they had their hands full from the start. Looking at the Zombie first line was enough to let them know they would have to play a defensive style and to bring the effort. They were successful in the strategy while their legs were best in the first period. Larry would score, unassisted, left alone nearby Matt and he buried it. The Zombies would also have a penalty, Captain Elliot for a hook but there was no other scoring in the period. End of 1 Red 1 Gold 0.

The Second would see a bit more “action” in every sense of the word. The teams were clearly in the flow of the game and it was getting appropriately physical for long periods in the first and the second only ramped up the contact as the game stayed close.
Mike Daley would land a nice shot, fed from Steve Baker to bring the lead to two.

Not long after Marc Valenti would chase a puck into the offensive corner only to get tangled up with Mitch and he took a fall into the boards. Marc was less than happy and was certainly feeling it after the spill.
The scrappy play would continue as there were good heated exchanges all over the ice. Capraro and George (several times), Jeff and Nelson boxing each other out in front of Matt, Capraro and Neil, and many more. All were in good spirit and stayed for the most part on the clean side. Mark Reynolds would take a whistle for a Slash on Steve Baker minutes after the KenMitch penalty was up. The Gold would survive both penalties but were slowly going back on their heels.

Fortunately Valenti was back on the ice and in the closing seconds would contribute for his team. Marc would send a long shot from the point (pass from Mike Daley) that would go through all kinds of traffic and under Matt for a goal just as the buzzer would sound. The time expired literally less than a second after the puck hit the back of the net.
3-0 after 2.

Things would just go downhill for the Gold in the third. They opened the period with a too many men on the ice penalty after a mixup between Mark and George. Larry would score unassisted again on the power play and the game was officially turning into rout. Larry followed up his second goal with a trip to the box (stat whore is as stat whore does…) for a slash. This was no problem for the Red as Steve Baker would bag a short handed goal on a nice shot and the blood was clearly in the water. AK would get a goal, assisted by Steve, and the game was 6-0 and the Beercans were almost completely crushed.

Thankfully Roman Kurin would show some flash and would take a long rush and score on a solo bid that broke up Brian Carey’s shutout for the night. That was it for glory on the Gold side and this one would end 6-1.

Game Stars
3rd Star: Matt Elliot for picking the Red Squad and doing a nice job with the team.
2nd Star: Steve Baker, 2 helpers and a nice goal. He was a threat all night

1st Star: Larry Gimme that Stat Sheet Bell. Two goals and an assist and a slashing penalty. Tough consistent play all night. This was a classic Larry game. Nice work.

Special Thanks to the CEO for the delicious post game beverages.

Tonight! Schlidaveur in Hingham!

Cadavers (5) vs Schlitz (6)
Thursday June 10th
Hingham 10:10pm

Alright alright. More 'daveur action set for tonight on the south shore. I think we will be in the A rink which is to the left if you are looking at the front of the building... but I'm not 100% so you may want to check with the desk when you arrive.

Regardless the preffered postgame location is the right side (near) of the rink. ... cuz that's probably what's most important to easily 30% of us.

This week's daveur lineups are provided by a pair of guest GMs.
Picking for the Cadavers would be Matt Elliot and the Golden Beercans would be Dan Gregson.

So here are your lineups. Bring your game and someone bring some beers... and we'll see you tonight in Hingham.

Cadavers
Capt. Matt Elliot
Mike Daley
Larry Bell
Marc Valenti
Nelson Sharman
Kevin Parker
Eric Bauer
Steve Baker
Pete Capraro
John Carey
Ken AK Douville
Chris Fosdick
Brian... sheesh I have to bring the kid again... Carey in net.

Schlitz
Capt. Dan Gregson
Neil Shah
Mark Reynolds
George Moorachian
Jeff Fosdick
Roman Kurin
Matvey Nikhamik
Mike Hammitt
Howard Heppelman
Ken Goldenberg
iJosh Greenstein
Scott Pounds
Mike Campbell (late addition awarded by management)
Matty CEO BMF in Net

One more thing. The Captains for tonights game have final say on all matters regarding each squad. This means, the captain will set the lineups, and make any in-game decisions (if necessary) regarding powerplay/penalty kill groupings or anything else.

Its their night, good or bad, and they run the show.
So it should be fun.

See you tonight!

Zombie-Fiesta Cincodemayodaveur!

Cadavers (1) vs Schlitz (1)
Wednesday May 5
Canton 8:10pm

Cadavers 2
Schlitz 0

The Summer 2010 season began on Wednesday night witha classic 'daveurs matchup and postgame that kicked things off in style. Lizzy and Team Dead would earn a tough 2-0 shutout shutdown of the Golden Beercans that would see lots of hard work, (and wheezing), but not much scoring.

The season opening rosters would include some new faces, and a bunch of old ones, as Schlidaveur International would welcome Eric Bauer and Jason Seaver to the ranks of our merry band of skaters. Who knows what their impressions were halfway through this slow-speed slugfest, but I’m pretty sure that when they left the parking lot they felt indoctrinated into what it means to play with the ‘daveurs… but more on that later.

The old faces included appearances by Matt Kilroy, yes you read that correctly, the CEOBMF is back, and skated out even, and Brian “long arm of the law… now surgically repaired” Carey who also skated out. Kevin Parker would also be returning from surgery as well, and it was great to see all of you guys back in the game.

This game had a bit of bigness to it right from the start, being first game of the season, a ‘davuer, new faces and old, and a warm summer night with the promise of beer and pizza, really all the elements were in play. You could feel it. Ok before the blogger gets lost…Here’s your game rosters

Cadavers
Lizzy “The GrimKeeper” in the pipes

D: Daley, Valenti, DWH, and Kilroy

O1: Capraro, Nelson, and Baker

O2: Eric Bauer, Elliot, and Gregson

Schlitz

Sully in net

D: Sgt. George, Reynolds, Brian Carey

O1: Jason Seaver, Neil and Scott

O2: Jeff, Roman and Parker

So the game would get underway and right off the Gold were a bit back on their heels. The Gold bench didn’t quite fill out right away as they would skate with 8 for a while before Parker would arrive five minutes into the period. The Red was definitely ready to play and immediately took the game to the Gold pressing the play in the Suds end and giving Sully some shots early on.

It wasn’t long in when the Gold would get caught in the neutral zone and Steve Baker would make a great play and spring a breakaway with Capraro. A slick pass and Pete buried the shot for the 1-0 lead at just the three minute mark. It was clear the Suds had their hands full, as it was no more than another 2 minutes later when Baker would take the puck and making some space for himself would unleash a nice shot that made the game 2-0.

Aside from getting Sgt. George to an early boiling point… you could tell as he started bubbling out condemnations and ”guys we gottas…” the Gold seemed to hold themselves together a bit and tried to match the intensity from the Cads to try and settle things down. This was mostly accomplished but the Red would get a handfull of other chances as the period went on. Sully did a great job keeping the suds in the game, for the rest of the way really.

The end of the first saw another bubbleover by Sgt. George who seemed to have plenty of wind for blowing hard at the Gold bench while the rest of us caught our breath. The Gold would keep after it, and had their chances but they were much fewer than the Zomies over the next two periods.

The Big Red defence that included Marc Dan and Mike with regular brief appearances by Kilroy, played formidably all night long, taking away chances, and setting the play down when needed. They were just plain tough to get around. The Gold didn’t get large numbers of quality chances, and when they did Lizzy was there and made the play. Lizzy was looking like her namesake, decked out in all black she stood a bit taller as she turned aside everything that came near her, reaping the shots and collecting loose pucks.

The Gold for their part couldn’t get any consistent pressure going in the Red end, and despite a handfull of breakaway chances for Jeff they couldn’t come up with anything over then next two periods. Jeff would clank one off the post in the first, Lizzy would squash the next shot, and the third breakaway, late in the game Jeff just faked himself out, trying to make a pathetic backhand and plowed himself right into the net instead of the puck. He got up muttering something about how they all now knew why he usually played D… or something like that.

Seaver, Roman and Neil had little other luck. Lots of just missed passes and bouncing pucks. Mid range shots were gobbled up by Lizzy and the Defense and trips were not plenty in to their end to begin with. Great work byt the Red all the way around.
Mark Reynolds would take the game’s only penalty in the second for interferece but the powerplay was a wash.

The Beercans would pull Sully for the final minute but again no blood on the odd man situation. The Red celebrated the first win of the year and a nice shutout and the teams adjourned to the locker-rooms and then the parking lot for the fourth period.

True to the special feeling of the night, the lot did not disappoint. Thanks in major part the CEO who provided Zorba’s Pizza (like seven of them) and icy cold Limeys for all to enjoy. All did enjoy as the weather was downright summer-like in the sixties under the stars. The teams were joined by Scott’s wife, Carlotta Pounds and Neil’s girlfriend Sarah and it was great to have both of them with us. Scott (true gentleman that he is) grabbed the seat from the back of his mini-van for Sarah to sit on. She was with cast, recovering from knee surgery. Sarah actually has a human cadaver ligament in her new knee so she has now been confirmed and Official (maybe the most official) Cadaveur by the organization. Welcome!

The Pizzas were devoured, the Limeys and Coronas slurped and smiles were plenty. The assembled ‘davuers basked in the start of summer hockey and it was pointed out by Roman that just a week ago the Cads were standing in the same parking lot and the feeling was totally different. A week ago it was chilly and the guys sulked around a few beers and felt bad about the whuppin just put on us in the dampness.

This week it was all good, even for the guys that got shutout, by the end of the night. Summer was here. The beer was cold and the pizza delicious. Good friends and teammates doing what we do, having a good skate and then a nice hang afterward. Welcome to the summer season. I have a feeling its going to be good.

Game Stars

3rd Star: Big Red D. DWH, Mike Daley, Marc Valenti, and Matty Kilroy. Great work all night.

2nd Star: Steve Baker. A two point night for the victors. Nice work all around.

1st Star: The dark keeper of the crease. Lizzy for a season opening shutout. Nice job.

Nice job to everyone who came out. That was a good way to start off the season.

Cadavers (1) vs Schlitz (1)
Wednesday May 5th

Summer season opener!

So much for the off-season.

Fresh off a royal "ousting" by the Blues last week to conclude the Winter season our heroes of the rink head back to the ice to open the Summer 2010 season with a CincodeMayoDaveur tonight in Canton.

Schlidaveur Incorporated opens another season with new and familiar faces and the league has been nice enough to give us a season opener "get to know you" Schlidavuer game. Everyone will be on deck tonight in Canton to get things underway.
Management consulted the hockey gods (there's a temple deep in the catacombs under world-headquarters), and meditated, even offered some sacrifices (the gods are picky... and hard to reach this time of year) and came up with a nice split roster that will hopefully make for a good game tonight.
Here are your game rosters.
