Suds win Huskies Division Championship.

Ultimate Championship Game
Schlitz vs Cadavers

Thursday May 1
Canton 9:10pm

Schlitz 4

Cadavers 0

The Suds win the Winter Season Championship with a spirited win over the persistant Cadavers last night in Canton. The third and Ultimate meeting of the Schlitz and Cadavers in this playoff season was a tight and hard fought game, with both sides clearly playing hard for the Championship Bragging Rights.
Both teams added players, Greg James returned for the Suds while three Cadavers rejoined the lineup with Mike Hammitt, Blake Underhill, and Mark Bates returning to action. These teams played a barn-burner 3-2 game on Monday night at the same time, and the same rink and this matchup, for all the "marbles" promised to be a good one.
The game started with some good chances on both ends and showed that it would be a hard and close game right off the bat. The Golden Suds were the first to get some consistant pressure and OEJ did a great job shutting down chances. The entire period went by, seeming longer than it really was, without a score.
The Second Period likewise remained scoreless for a long time. The Schlitz were clearly getting the majority of the chances and the Red were often forced to scramble in their own end. The frustration on the Zombie side of things started to bubble over. Mike Hammitt went for his first, a Slash, at 11:35 in the 2nd. The Schlitz weren't able to avoid their own problems with the Zebras as they were called for the next three. Greg James took the first, a Trip at 9:09. The Suds were able to kill off that power play without any consistent chances for the red.

The Schlitz would finally break through as time got short in the second. Pete Capraro, set up by Billy Pearlman, slipped a long low shot in from the point that found its way past OEJ to the back of the net with 5:35 remaining. The cheer from the Suds bench was loud as first blood was finally drawn.

The game turned complicated for the Guys in Gold as the Penalty bug nipped them once again and threatened to undue the hard gained advantage. James went off again for an Interference at 4:44 but then things got bad when Pete Capraro went off at 3:55 giving the Red a 5 on 3 for close to a minute of playing time. The Zombies got a few chances but the hard work from the Gold pk paid off and they were able to come out of the 2 man down unscathed. Credit good skating from forward Roman Kurin who really helped the cause with timely break ups. There is no question this was a huge momentum builder for the Schlitz to escape that situation.

Things continued to unravel for the Cads soon after as they were assesed a bench minor for too many men with just over 2 minutes in the second. This would lead to another Schlitz strike, this time as Greg James picked up a loose puck and buried a nice wrister to put the 'cans up 2-0 with 1 minute left. Thats how the period would end.

The third period saw more furious action as the red continually tried to mount some kind of offense with out great success. The Suds would strike a meare 3 minutes into the period to take a Commanding 3-0 lead thanks to a great goal by Kevin Parker, credit Chris Foz on the assist.

More frustration after that as Mike Campbell took his second less than a minute later adn Hammitt his second 2 minutes after that. The suds didn't convert to extend their lead, but likewise killed the last of their own penalties when Bill Pearlman went for a hold with 9 minutes left.

The Zombies would continue to valliantly try to mount some form of attack, even pulling OEJ with more than two minutes remaining. This only resulted in a Empty Net Goal from Matt Elliott, Chuck Slate on the assist, that finally closed the door on this one.

A great final game for a really nice season. Kudos and thanks to one and all.
The fourth period was no less worthy of the magnitude of the game with an exquisite layout of Sushi and Dumplings from Miran James. Thanks so much to her for bringing the goods! You spoil us with your tasty treats.

Game Stars

3rd Star: Alright. He was a no-show on the score sheet (points or penalties) which almost never happens. But the Blogger feels inclined to give the 3rd star to Larry Bell. Larry clearly gave it his all and was all over the place for the Dead in Red. He had a great playoffs, lugging a lot of "mail" for his team and making chances happen through effort and toughness. No wonder he's the points leader year in and year out. Nice work Larry... as always.
2nd Star: Pete Capraro. Scores the eventual Game Winner with a sneaky low shot from the point. Pete had a great playoff run, showing his legs and grit in every game. He has really become a valuable contributor every time he's on the ice. Good job Pete.
1st Star: It's a shutout baby, so you know what that means. Suds goalie Brian Carey walks away with the number one star for a Championship Game Shutout. Brian has played great every game in the playoffs for the team this year and has been a welcome addition to our goaltending rotation. Thanks Brian. Great job.

Fourth period was appropriatly festive. A few shots below from the cellphone cam will give you an idea if you weren't there. Thanks to all who brought beer.
Stay tuned for more pics of the winners on and off the ice in the coming days.
Until then.
Great job Schlitz. 2 titles in a row.... and the first winter title in franchise history. Nice work.
