Schlidaveur Round 5 Zombie Shutout!

Cadavers(15) vs. Schlitz(13)
Monday August 13th
Bavis Ice Arena

Cadavers - 3
Schlitz - 0

Now that was fun. A 'daveur for the ages. Not one of our many many ties but a very even and competitive game. Both teams played very well, including both goalies, and there was no shortage of extra effort when it came to the chippy stuff for a while.
Yes there were some boiling tensions as this nip and tuck affair drew out. There was a nice firey exchange between OEJ and Nelson Sharfman, on Nelson's first shift no less. Plenty of poking and hacking that OEJ seemed a little sensitive over. The other good boil over was Matvey taking a few shots after getting the textbook Hammitt take down. Seems Matvey was a little sensitive too. Kudos to Hammitt for not taking it to the next level. Lets remember everyone... we're all friends out there, so don't go taking anything too personally.
I give you an exchange between myself and scoring leader Larry Bell during the fourth period.

Larry: Nice hit in the corner. I can appreciate a good hit.
Blogger: I'm just glad I caught you... so I could hit you.

Another moment that is recorded in our photo section is the Hammitt Pancake on Dangerous Dave Spenciner. Good one there. Way to keep after it and bounce back Dave.
The whole first period was scoreless until less than a minute left when Chris Fosdick finally broke through for the Zombies on a Power Play goal with an assist by Matvey.
Then Dangerous Dave exacted his revenge by potting one with help from Nelson.
The Suds continued to mount decent attacks and defend pretty well but OEJ was having none of it. Time after time he turned away the Schlitz shots or gobbled up the rebounds.
It wasn't until almost halfway through the third when Jim Sullivan (from Bill Pearlman) delt the back breaker. By then the Suds were desperate to get something going and were starting to allow too many odd man rushes. OEJ held on an preserved his fourth shutout on the year. Great job. The Zombies worked hard all night with consistent pressure and deserved the well fought win.
The penalty scene was active but not out of hand. Nelson had one and Hammitt and Jeff Fosdick both had 2 for the Suds. Billy Pealman has two also, along with the roughing on Matvey for the Zombies. There was also a bench minor that Scott Pounds was nice enough to serve. Really the zebras could have called a lot more.
There was even some fandom! Yes, the Blogger's family decided to make a night of it and not only came to root on the Suds but took pictures and videos of the game. Thanks to Crystal, and Amanda (the photographer), Justin and baby Jenn for making the trip. The Blogger beams with pride.
The Pearlman clan was on hand as well. Billy brought along all his kids and so the blog sends the Schlidaveur salute out to all of his kids. Thanks for coming.

Alright.... Game Stars.
3rd Star: The goal scorers for the Zombies. Chris Fosdick, Dangerous Dave, and Jim Sullivan. Way to finish guys, a great effort from all, all night long.
2nd Star: Lizzy. Yep, our gal Liz made a number of excellent stops and despite being on the losing end deserves a star. She made a bunch of good saves on odd man rushes (feeling snake-bit Larry?) and shots that came through traffic. She kept the Suds afloat for the whole game. Thanks.
1st Star: Who else? Mike "Dr. Zero" Gash. OEJ's fourth shutout on the season. Eighth win out of eleven played, and a phenominal 1.45 GAA. The man keeps on bringing the good stuff. Great season Mike, keep up the good work.

Great Fourth period work by Grillmaster Mike Campbell. Also Greg James for bringing the (BS) cookies... you know what we really want Greg, and Chris Fosdick for the yummy Meatballs. Thanks to everyone who brought beer or snacks... it was a great night for it.

Ok there are videos and photos that I will include in their own posts below this.
Enjoy and stay tuned for the rosters for Thursday night's (Schlitz) game in Milton at 9pm.

Hey, I was just practicing my new dance moves...or may be aiming for Godie Howe hat trick

In reality, I'd rather have saved that particular moment for one of our opponents than any of Shlidaveur-nites.
My appologies to Mike.

Help from Nelson? Was that while he was in the box?

And someone said that you couldn't score on your own goalie and get points out of that

Matvie - No need to apologize, with a right hook like that, you can do whatever you want:-) I am still sore but no longer hung over.
