Goons Pummel Ladies in Schlidaveur 5

Cadavers/GOONS(18)
vs
Schlitz/LADY BYNGS(15)
Monday January 14
Bavis Arena 10:20pm

Goons 10
Byngs 0

Well. That didn't really go the way we were hoping. A fun night if you were a Goon, not so much if you were a Byng. Splitting the teams along the lines of the the penalty leaders versus the penalty (virtually) free, was a good idea, and one we may revisit with some careful consideration, but the execution didn't work so well. Keep in mind that the Schlitz had a few key players that were not able to make it, that could have changed the game at least a little. No sour grapes from the Byngs however, as the Goons deserved their victory. The Dead in Red skated hard and finished well all night and sent the Byngs home crying in their now tarnished sportsmanship cups.

The Goons had a great turn out with all Thugs reporting. Campbell and James (The Twin Towers) worked with George and Valenti (The Mediterranean Duo) as the Goon Defense. Thugs R Us Forward lines were Larry, Daley, and Pounds as the first line, and Gregson, Pearlman, and Matvey as the second. Latecomer (and Goon) Mitch Goldenberg rotated in. They were backstopped by Goaliegoon Mike Gash.

The Byngs had a bit of a cobbled together look, with several subs filling out the ranks. The Good in Gold were led by Chris Fosdick, Parker, and Capraro on the first line of offense. Newcomers Chuck Slate and Mark Bates, worked with sub Eric Bauer and Roman as the second line. The D pairings were Jeff F and familiar fill in Kevin Manning, along with DWH and sub Jeff Spears as the other pair. Thanks to DWH for bringing along Eric and Jeff, things would have been a lot thinner on the Byng bench without you guys. The Byngs were backstopped by Goodguygoalie Madd Matt Kilroy.

Things were downright tight in the first period and things looked to be shaping up for a good match up as the Byngs were able to cycle the Goon zone and get some good chances on OEJ. It was not to be as the Goons took to the counter attack and it wasn't long before Dan Gregson broke the ice with a nice goal from George Moorachian. It couldn't have been much more than a minute or two later when they struck again, this time Mike Daley began his parade of goals, this one from Mike Hammit. Before the first was out the Goons would effectively ice the game with an unassisted tally from Marc Valenti, and a nice goal from "Wild" Bill Pearlman set up by Larry.

That was pretty much it for the guys in yellow. The second and third periods provided some opportunities here and there but they were never really able to mount any kind of offense against the smothering thuggery of the Goons. The second period saw goals from Pearlman (from Matvey), Daley (from Larry), and Valenti (from Hammitt) again and a deepening hole for the Byngs.

The third period saw no real change in things as Pearlman rounded out his hat-trick (from James) and Mike Daley scored two more, one short handed (from George)...[ I guess he needed to bring up the difficulty] and the last unassisted... and frankly gratuitous. Just kidding. I would have done the same thing if I had the chance.
Big time props to all the Goons with goals. Nice job boys, you certainly backed up the smack.

So here we are with... Game Stars. This win was so big, I'm giving the boys more than just 3 stars, I'm giving them 5.

5th Star- George Moorachian and Larry Bell. Great defensive work and two assists for George. Solid as always. Scoring leader (for now) Larry with 2 assists.
4th Star- Mike Hammitt. Two assists and the Goons only trip to the box. Good enough for a parking lot Goon serenade of "MVP, MVP, MVP...." whatever.
3rd Star- Marc Valenti. Two nice goals from the Rookie with the big shot. Nobody wants to get in front of that. Keep up the good work.
2nd Star- "Wild" Bill Pearlman. Nice hat-trick. We have to get this guy the puck in front of the net more often. Dude clearly has some finish. Good job.
1st Star- Soon to be scoring leader Mike Daley. A beautiful 4 goal performance from the Rookie of the Year candidate. Daley was playing a lot of D when he first got here but lately has been racking it up on the offensive side of things. He is now only 1 point behind Larry for the combined scoring lead. This might be interesting. Good game.

Honorable Mention 1: Mike Gash. No star buddy, you know the drill, you were never really tested. Good job with the shutout nonetheless.
Honorable Mention 2: Madd Matt Kilroy for the 6 FOOT SUB and BEER for postgame. Dude... you are the best. Thanks.

Here are some grainy pics of the postgame vittles.....my that's a big sandwich.

A term derived from a comic publication, hockey bukkake is the act of sexually assaulting a woman (... man?) with innumerable hockey sticks. Um, about eight or more. Give or take.
