Mattdaveur ends All Tied Up!

Schlitz (6) vs Cadavers (4)
Monday October 27
Bavis Arena 10:10pm

3-3 Tie

This one had it all folks. A truly competitive Daveur very similar to the last one we played. The rosters for this one were set by CEO BMF Matt Kilroy and Power Forward Matt Elliot to make this one the MATTDAVEUR. Excellent job by both guys assembling teams from the available rosters. Kilroy did a fine job insuring he would have some Stout D in front of him as he would be in the pipes for the Dead in Red when we took the ice.
Here is the roster breakdown.
Schlitz
Brian in Net
D1: Valenti, Pearlman
D2: Jeff, Carl
O1: Chris, Elliot, Jasse
O2: Daley, Ken, Matvey (Parker rotated)

Cadavers
Matt in Net
D1: Campbell, DWH
D2: George, James
Offense: iJosh, Nelson, Roman, Chuck, Reynolds,
Scott, Gregson, Capraro, Blake

The game was off and running to a solid start and the teams "felt each other out". The Skating Beercans would test CEO Kilroy early and often... but they didn't count on 1 thing. CEO Kilroy was not only ready and willing, he was able to turn aside anything the 'cans threw at him in that first period. He flashed the glove, he made a kick save, he jumped on rebounds. The Blogger is here to tell you friend...it was a sight to behold. The Schlitz would have some chances but no promised land to start the game.
The Cads and the Suds would both get power play opportunities in that first period. Greg James from the Dead in Red would go first for a slash but the Suds would do nothing with the man advantage, thanks mostly to excellent D play by the remaining Zombies. In fact the Zombies killed the penalty so well they would score on a rush while down a man. Nelson Sharfman would pop one by Brian with an assist from Chuck Slate to put the Red up 1-0. Nice work guys. Before the end of the period Marc Valenti would exit for the Suds courtesy of a hooking call but the Cads wouldn't score. End of one, 1-0 Red.
Well the Golden suds finally solved the Riddle of Kilroy and Chris Fosdick potted one from Jasse and Matvey a few minutes into the period. The Suds felt good, but the feeling was short lived. The Red would start to take a few penalties. Naturally Mike Campbell was first on the list, doing his best "slide into second and take out the thrower" when he sent Jeff sprawling in the neutral zone. Of course this was the Zombies plan all along because while shorthanded the scored again. This time Greg James took a pass from Roman (wait let me say that again... pass from Roman... hmm why does that sound so strange?) and shot a LASER from the point that beat Brian and put the Red up 2-1. The Gold were shaking their heads but still pressed on trying to get something going against Kilroy. Matvey would take a high stick call but the Red only were scoring shorthanded that night so there was no goal.
The Red would continue a trend when Mark Reynolds would go off for slashing Jeff, then George would go later (no scoring on either power play) for an interference, knocking Jeff to the ice... hey wait a second... is there a trend here? Bastards. Anyway... thats how the second ended with the Cads still up 2-1.

The third was more of a momentum shift back the other way... but only to a point. The Gold would have a bit of a revival. Kevin Parker would put one home past Kilroy on a feed from Matvey to tie the game. The Red would then counter as Mark Reynolds would put them back on top unassisted (breakaway?). But the Gold wouldn't slow down. Shifting hard and playing harder the Gold would work to break the tough Red D and finally broke through again, tying the game with only about 6 minutes left to play.
This was a great goal from Ken Goldenberg, right in front scooping up a rebound picking his spot an putting it past Matt. Credit Matvey and Parker with the hard working assists. The Gold was feeling great about their chances. Even better when usually quiet and unassuming Dr. Pounds puts the hammer down on Billy Pearlman at the top of the Red zone. I mean dropped him.... astounding... its always the quiet ones that surprise you. There was nothing doing though as the Red successfully killed the penalty then as time went under 5 minutes the momentum was stopped.

Billy would go off for a hold... but it was a delayed penalty... while the red tried to play keep away the zebras got Bill for another one, this time a slash and called a double minor against him that would put the Gold down for almost the rest of the game. The Red would have a few chances but were unable to get anything past Brian.
At some point in these closing minutes there was a tremendous collision between Marc Valenti and Greg James who collided leg to leg then flew spectacularly into the air in a Matrix-Like display rotating away from each other. They would both land on the ice shaken but thankfully unhurt. It was quite a sound.
Ultimately the story was that the Gold surge was stopped, and this one would end with a very hard fought tie.
Great job by everyone.... sorry the blog was so late (only about a week...) but the blogger needs to make sure he stays employed from time to time.

Game Stars
3rd Star: Matvey Nikhamik. A three assist night Matvey figured in all of the Gold's scoring. A strong night for the always reliable Russian. Nice to have it show on the scoresheet. Way to play it hard Matvey.
2nd Star: With a tremendous game and the game tieing goal for the Gold. Ken Goldenberg. Big night for Ken as he was standing up to the (tall, large, fast) Red Defensemen all night. Taking on Campbell at one point undaunted. Nice for him to finish off with a sweet goal. Great work Ken.
1st Star: Has to be the CEO BMF Hisownbadself Matt Kilroy. A shutout in the first and a hard fought tie really showed how well he has improved in the pipes. Matt was able to get into the game rythem in the first making a handfull of good solid saves early. Great work down the stretch. Always Team First... Matt Kilroy. Nice job.

Suds Canned by the Call

Schlitz (5) vs Last Call
Thursday October 23
West Roxbury 10:00
5-1 Loss

Sounds like the Guys and Gals in Gold had a tough night at the rink on Thursday. The Suds took on the Last Call in Roxbury latenight and came away with a beatin'. Thanks to everyone who showed and helped out playing out of position for a while. Not much to report on but there were a few stories trickling into World Headquarters here... so we'll hear from them.
This excellent report came in from Mark Reynolds... his first Guest Blog appearance.
Here's Mark:
"Lizzy took a beating in net. Lots of shots; plus one guy fell on her head leaving her with very sore neck. If there was a star of the game, it was Lizzy. She made terrific saves. Three of the goals were breakaways. The other two were scrums in the crease. No soft goals allowed.

Last Call showed up with a full roster off the usual players. They played their floater game all night, giving numerous many opportunities for odd man rushes and breakaways.

Our D paring was
[Reynolds – Carl] Reynolds took 2 min for holding in 1st period; LC took a matching penalty for hooking. Overall, a very clean game.
[Stephan – Kilroy] Stephan played a solid game and demonstrated excellent puck-handling abilities

Offense
[Nelson – Pounds – Chuck]
I think Nelson got the goal in 2nd period, but can’t confirm. Chuck and the Dr moved the puck well.
{Parker - Blake – Ken] Another strong game for Parker Blake and Ken were busting arse and made some nice passes

Have your seen Kilroy’s new bright blue 4x4 fry-o-lator?"
Great job Mark. Thanks for the story.
The only goal scored by the Gold was... I hear... Kevin Parker from Dr. Pounds. The only penalty belonged to Mr. Reynolds hizownbadself and the rest of the scoring.... came from the Call.
Now we will hear from our Besieged Babe of the Back Line.... Ms. Lizzy herself:
"Even though we lost, if I could only pick one star it would be Carl. He stepped up and offered to play d, even though he's new and getting used to playing with us, and he played really really well. He broke up plays, iced the puck on the penalty and really got in to a lot of plays,on the boards,on the ice, etc! He should keep up the good work! Also Stefan should be mentioned, his first line he was like a bat out of hell and as always he played a solid game. Everyone especially the people who filled in on defense played very good, the score should have been closer "
Alright! Thanks for the words Liz... we'll have to stand up for you a little better next time. Oh yes and our Gal had one more thing to add....

"Oh and something key from last night although you must already have reports of this, Dr Scott unselfishly as always brought the lone beer, and it was in 'fall" camo cans. I brought my empty home so I can refill it, hide it in the leaves, and drink it stealth in my backyard "

That is just tremendous.... all I can think about is Lizzy sitting in a pile of leaves sneaking beers and keeping out of sight. We should have a team outing with camo cans...
One last minute check in... from Veteran Presence Nelson Sharfman.
"A rather disappointing evening. We lost 8-1 or 7-1. They fielded a pretty strong team and their better players held back for much of the game. Eventually they overwhelmed us anyway. Our highlight was on the only goal for the good guys. It was a beautiful, no look backhand pass from Scott to Kevin in the slot who finished the job nicely."
Well... despite you grim outlook on the score... that was a nice recap. Thanks Nelson
No Game stars on this one kids.
Remember Schlidaveur Monday night at Bavis Arena in Rockland.
The Blogger will see you there!

Zombies Eat the Clinic

Cadavers (3) vs Clinic
Tuesday October 21st
UMass 10:30pm
11-0 win

Woah. So that sounds like it went well.
Here is Guest Blogger Extraordinaire iJosh with the breakdown.

Well it was a whirlwind of scoring last night with a total of 11 goals by both teams. Of course most, actually all of them were scored by the Dead in Red.
Due to the fact that we played the Clinic Team, this one wasn't even close. The Zombies controlled the game almost from the outset and until the final whistle blew. And speaking of blowing, we were at UMass once again. That certainly blew.
To start the game the Cads would dress: On Defense - Valenti and Matt Elliott, Capt George and Mike Daley. The wing pairs would be: Mark Reynolds and Rookie Mike Fitzpatrick, Roman and Matvey, Gregson and Dr. Pounds with the two man center rotation of Larry and iJosh.
Play started with the rookie ref (as explained to us by the other ref) dropping the puck, who apparently got into a fight with a puck earlier this week and had a nice shiner to show for it. He claims the puck took the worst of it though. The first shift would see probably the one and only major rush by the Clinic team as the puck would squirt out to center ice and Clinic would take a shot, have it stop dead on the ice (nice cooling system there UMass) where Brian would have easily scooped it up. Instead the clinic was able to make a another swipe on the puck and Brian would have to scurry to stop the shot. Right after that the Red would put on a clinic for the Clinic. There are far too many goals to remember exactly how they were score so here is the short version.
Mark Reynolds would tuck one in from Matvey at 3:00. Larry would finish off George's rush for his first of the night at 13:00. Reynolds would tip one over the goalie from iJosh at 13:30. And Larry would take the puck away from the Clinic and beat the goalie for his second (unassisted) of the night at 15:30. At the end of period 1 it would be 4-0 Cads.
The second period would see more of the same. George would finally get to finish off his own work by putting one home unassisted at 1:30. At 5:59 Deb Johnson* who did not come out of retirement and play, scored from Dr. Pounds. There would be a bit of a lull as the Cads would not score for a grand total of 10 minutes and 31 seconds. So at 16:30, Matt Ciciari* who came out of thin air, scored from the Original Stat Whore** himself, Larry Bell. The period would end with the Cads holding a commanding 7-0 lead.
At about the time the Cads went up 6-0 Marc Valenti suggested that maybe it would be a good idea, in the name of fairness, to have the defensemen play up and have some of the forwards play back. The newly arranged D corps would be: iJosh & Reynolds, Gregson & Matvey. Roman volunteered to play center as soon as iJosh vacated his spot on the O, causing some people to question who is indeed the team's Stat Whore.
Summarizing the 3rd period best I can: Larry would score again at 2:29.
Larry would again strike just 30 seconds later. The D line of iJosh and Mark Reynolds played a very conservative band of defense, sending the puck in deep to the corners and simply playing keep away. Essentially still play the game but with less offensive aggression. But it still could not slow the scoring. This time OEJ* jumped on the ice and took a pass from Dr. Pounds at 4:29. Finally closing out the scoring would be rookie Fitzy as he would put one home, helped by Capt George. So in the end the Cads would prevail with an 11-0 rout of the Clinic team.
That being said a few notes and acknowledgments need to be mentioned:
1st:: Kudos to Mr. Valenti for the suggestion that we mix things up.
Even though it did not slow up the scoring much, it was the right and fair thing to do.
2nd: Um, there is no need for stat whoring against this team. Play hard, give them a challenge. We are going to put up a lot of goals, but don't cross the line of good taste.
3rd: A golf clap to their goalie. He got pestered with shots all night. The Cads were hitting the point and Valenti, George and Mike Daley were driving shots at the net all night. Plus the offense put tremendous pressure on him at times. He is a decent goalie, but the Clinic team just doesn't know how to protect him yet. So good job by him.
4th: I hate UMass. Have I said that in previous postings?
5th: Thanks to Dr. Pounds and Larry for the beer.

* - None of those people actually played for us last night.
** - Larry's reign of holding the official title of stat whore might be coming to an end. So I will now dub him the Original Stat Whore so that he may at least hold some form of acknowledgment of that title forever.
Great job as always iJosh. Good work to the crew that played....

What a Game! What a Night! SoxDaveur!

Schlitz (4) vs Cadavers (3)
Thursday October 16th
Brockton 9:00pm

Schlitz 3
Cadavers 2

Well well well dear friend and wander of the digital darkness, the Blogger is glad you stopped by today because have I got a story for you. I've got a tale of the Daveur, a gem of a game, and a night that had a lil something extra, even if it happend after the hockey was finished.
Last night the collective Schlidaveurs took the ice in the City of Champions to sort out the tale of 'daveur number 2 for the winter 09 season.
The teams, hastiliy tossed together late in the day by a couple of guys here at world headquarters (picked from a list of names), turned out to be very evenly matched. Special thanks to Greg Koytiger (Schlitz) and Ethan Karp (Cads) for helping out with this process. Jim Sullivan was unable to show and Matt Kilroy would take to the nets for the Cadavers but he was fronted by an impressive Defensive Corps that would be plenty of a match for the offensive powers assembled on the gold side. The rosters looked like this.
Cadavers
Matt in Net,
Defense: DWH and Daley; George and Stephan
Offense: Roman, Kevin Fitz, Carl Schiller, Dr.Pounds, Reynolds, Chuck, and John Carey (Brian's son... I hope his name is John)
Schlitz
Brian in Net,
Defense: Valenti and Pearlman; Jeff and Hammitt
Offense: Larry, Nelson, iJosh, Matvey, Parker (late arrival), Gregson, Chris
Clearly, as you can see, there was an impresive Gold offense vs Red defense matchup going on here and it lived up to the expectation. The game would be a tight match from the start to finish and saw big time effort on both sides. The blogger tips his hat to everyone who strapped on skates last night. Nothing was given. Everything was earned.
The first period started fast. There were good chances at both ends and both goaltenders had a chance to get into the flow of the game. The Gold held a decided advantage getting lots of time in the Red end but really few good scoring chances. The Red D was just smothering. They seemed to step up and move the play off whenever necessary and continually made clearing passes that found the mark. The Gold showed nice effort working the zone and continuing to try and generate chances that werent coming easy. The first ended 0-0. Hammitt took a penalty early in the first and was the only call of the period.
There would be no penalties in the Second period at all... but there would be some scoring.
The the 12 and a half minute mark the Gold were doing a good job keeping the play in the Red end. Billy Pearlman did a nice job holding the play in, then moving and firing a nice shot that bounced off of Kirloy. Matt Elliot was right there and popped the rebound home and put the Schlitz on the board 1-0.
After that goal the momentum of the game changed dramatically. Suddenly the Red were the ones getting multiple chances and doing a nice job holding the pressure in the Gold end. This trend would continue into the closing minutes of the period.
Then Roman Kurin would take a puck and rush up the right side into the Gold zone. Jeff came over and picked him up and even took a few hacks at him to keep him outside but to no avail. The Rushin er.. Russian held the puck and charged ahead taking the play around the back of the net, Jeff pathetically hanging on but not able to knock the puck away, then threw a shot at Brian's pads that bounced right off the side/back of the goalies pad and into the net for the equalizer. A nice play by Roman and a fortunate bounce for sure. The period would end 1-1.
The Cadavers would continue to build on the momentum they had gained by tieing the game up late in the second. It wasn't more than a handfull of minutes into the third when again the Red set up with good pressure. This time there was a scramble in front of Brian, who made a quick save on a close shot. The puck squirted out and behind the left side of the net to Roman who threw it back out to the low slot and the scrum of players there. The puck came right to Jeff who tried to get a stick on it, and did, but to horrible result as it deflected right into the net giving the Red a 2-1 lead. Roman for his second unassisted of the night.
The Gold was far from done though and there is no question that the effort dial got turned up on the Schlitz bench after that goal. Guys like Larry, Nelson, iJosh and Parker were pressing hard and it is a true tribute to the work of the Red D pairings that they were just unable to get many good shots on Kilroy. Time and again they were turned away. There had been one call on iJosh at some point during the middle part of the period and yellow had a solid pk.
Now with less than 10 minutes in the game the Gold would get something going. Mike Hammitt would keep the puck deep in the Red end as he pinched, staying late on his shift. He worked a shot on Kilroy who made the save. Matvey picked it up and passed back to Mike about 12 feet away who took the shot. The puck was kind of a wobbler but made it past Kilroy and tied the game up again. I think Hammitt heard someone say "the net giggled when it hit..." or something to that effect. Regarless.... with time running down to five minutes and below the game was even 2-2.
So let that soak in for a sec. That says something on a couple of issues. Think about the game that Kilroy had turned in as the sub goalie playing in net for the first time in many months. Think about what it says for the Red D corps to hold Larry, Nelson, iJosh, Parker and Chris (just to name a few...) to zero points in the game. Think about how well our two Roster pickers did while... ah... not having a clue. Ok I'll stop... I think you get the point. It was a good game.
So now we come to the end of the game. The Gold and Red pressing. The Red D were rushing more, trying to make something happen on offense. Both teams got chances and both goalies played well.
Then with 1:45 on the clock Jeff Fosdick saw an opportunity and stepped up in the neutral zone. Picking up the puck he raced into the zone for one of the games only breakaways. I'm telling you he could feel the Goat Horns on his helmet dissapearing as he rushed to the net and fired a wrister that BEAT KILROY GLOVE SIDE !!! ... but that sound... that whistle just as he shot.... what... was that? Jeff circles the net, hands in the air, then realizes to his utter dismay that the play has been whistled dead.... a result of matching penalties to George and LARRY who were taking hacks at each other at the blue line. Jeff was... um.... displeased. The Goat horns returned to his helmet as he threw his stick into the bench then went there to sulk and suck air.
The game continued with George and Larry in the box, the clock winding down. Right about the minute mark, Marc Valenti would come up HUGE for the Gold. Marc would let a slapper rip from "Way Down Town" which was about two steps inside the red line. The shot was a laser that beat Kilroy and officially put the Gold ahead. Marc would say later in the parking lot; " I knew it was a good one beacuse I didn't feel the puck when I swung through." Sweet.
The Zombies would pull Matt and created some excellent chances as the clock ran out but were unable to get anything past Brian and the Schlitz would win the game 3-2. Whew!
The teams would re-assemble in the parking lot for the fourth period and to check on the misterable fate of the Red Sox who, when last we checked (iJosh brought a radio to the bench) were down 5-0. Kudos to iJosh, Dr. Pounds and Marc Reynolds for the cold adult beverages enjoyed in the parking lot. Before we go on, lets do....
Game Stars
3rd Star: Mike Hammitt. Kind of a dark horse pick, but he did a great job all night for the Gold. Mike had a terrific play that led to his own goal to tie the game up. Also, after the early penalty Mike didn't have any other incidents with the men in stripes which really helped. Good work.
2nd Star: Roman Kurin. Have to give it to the man with a pair of goals. They all look good on the score sheet. Nice job Roman.
1st Star: Marc Valenti. The man with the Cannon from the point. Nice job on the game winner and all night on the Gold blueline. Marc had an excellent night all around.
Honorable Mention 1: Matt Kilroy. The CEO BMF in the pipes for a great effort. Matty always gives whatever he has for both teams and last night was no exception. Thanks.

Honorable Mention 2: Really could have been the 3rd Star... the Cads Defensive Corps. Stephan Wennik, George Moorachian, Dan Herbert, and Mike Daley. Just outstanding effort and play all night long. This might well be the best 4 D we've ever put on the ice at the same time. Just ask any of the guys that played offense for the Gold last night.

IOU: Jeff to Larry after the game... "You owe me a game winning goal you bastard." You aren't officially getting the Coon... but I just happend to have this image....

Overheard in the Parking Lot: Jeff to Hammitt: "I think we played pretty well". Hammitt shruggs and smiles. Jeff says: "I mean... except for the two goals they scored on us... "
So... let me continue the story of last night for just a few more graphs, if none of you mind....
The Blogger got into the car just after 11pm after the fourth was winding down. The radio had the Sox game still on and just as I pulled out of the parking lot Dustin Pedroia put the Sox on the board for the first time in the bottom of the sixth. Ok... maybe I'll listen for a little longer I think as I get on the highway.
By the time I had stopped at the BK on rte 24 and got on 495 south Papi hit his 3 run shot to make the game 7-4. Now the crowd was getting into it. Joe Castig and Dale were starting to get worked up and you could hear Fenway coming to life.
I was getting close to home when JD Drew lauched "The 14 Million Dollar Home Run" Part II to bring the Sox within one. Then as I zipped along the canal road Coco had his EPIC 10 pitch at bat that resulted in his awesome double that tied the game. I could hear Fenway rocking and was beeping the horn as I went.
I got home, unpacked my stuff and let the dogs out and by the time I turned the tv on it was already the bottom of the 9th with one out...
Well you know what happened next. Youk gets on, they walk Bay, and J.D. BLEEPIN DREW comes through again. Maybe it should be the 7 Million Dollar 2 run homer, and the 7 Million Dollar single that saved the Sox and sent the ALCS back to Tampa.

Nothing like a little Sox October Magic to spice up the ride home I always say.
Way to go Sox. God... does this mean I have to like Drew now?
A good night by all.
I would be really interested to hear any of your stories about how you listened/watched the game last night. Please add your tale, however short in the comments. It only takes a sec and you dont have to sign up for anything. 'come on.... lets hear it.

Zombies Defeat Sparta!

Cadavers (2) vs Spartans
Thursday October 9th
UMass 10:30pm

3-1 Win!

Alright, alright. Here we are with another season underway and another series of quality Guest Blog appearances from our Man on the Scene iJosh! He is on the case with a red-hot wrap up of last night's action at the prison by the bay. So without further ado.... here's iJosh:

So we returned to the hell hole that is: UMasscrack, The Prison By the Bay, UMalcatraz. Some people parked far away, some paided the $6 to park even though the gates closed in 5 minutes. A few just ignored the toll takers and lived to tell about it.

This was Kenny D's first time at the beloved rink and his comment simply was: "This place is a $%!(hole".
We dressed as the Sitniks played to a 2-0 win just prior to us. So with Matvey and Roman double shifting with the two teams, that would leave us with full squad of 13.
The defense would throw out: Valenti with Pearlman and Daley with Matt Elliot.
The offense would run with: Jasse, Kilroy, Capraro; iJosh, Matvey, Roman; Chris F, Gregson, Kenny D.
The first period would see the Dead in Red have numerous chances and pretty much control the play. But despite the strong chances there would be no spoils to show. Though Marc Valenti would attempt to break the record for quickest penalty ever with a trip in the first shift at 0:59. The penalty kill would play nearly flawlessly. The Spartans could not get off a decent shot the entire kill.
Into second we go. The first shift would see some good pressure on the Spartan's goaltender, who played extremely well all night. But extremely well isn't perfect and the Skating Zombies would take advantage of that. At 0:51 of the 2nd period, Roman would take the puck to the corner. He would eventually pass up to the point to Billy Pearlman who skated in close to the net and sent a pass/shot across the crease. It would land on iJosh's stick and he would tuck it home for a 1-0 Cadavers lead.
Pearlman would not be done with his offensive pressure. In his next shift he would take a pass at the high slot and slap it toward the net where it would ring post to post and out. Roman would do the same from the right side of the net as it bounced off the post and away. The rebound would go to the left side and collected by the Spartans. But Billy would skate over and take the puck away from him skate across the ice and bury the puck into the net for a 2-0 Zombie lead.
Mike Daley would get caught trying to take a puck away from the Green, only to have him miss and take the guys legs out. So end result, 2nd penalty for the Dead. Penalty kill, again, was strong. The Red did not let the Green get any strong chance. The Green would mount a couple of strong chances, just not on the penalty and "Dr. No", Brian Carey would have none of it.
The last period would see a breakdown. Billy Pearlman would cough up the puck near mid-ice where the Spartans would collect and go on a breakaway. This one just could not be stopped by Brian as he was just left out to dry. Sorry Brian. But the Dead would pick themselves up and dust themselves off. But not before losing a player. Kenny would land on the ice and take a knee to the chest. Despite trying to tough it out for a couple of shift, he just could not go on. Hopefully it is not too bad. So we would finish the game with 2 centers and 3 sets of wings. Before long, Mike Daley would pass off to Matt Elliot who would catch a streaking Roman up the ice with a perfect pass. Roman skated in and beat the Spartan goaltender on a nice little deke to make it 3-1 Cads.
The Spartans would pick up the pace and put some more pressure on Brian. Some bad decisions would lead to some good chances for them. But again, the Doctor said No. iJosh would get beat on the right side of the net and would get called for the hook. This PK was no different than the others. Just no real changes for the opponent. So after the Green took their timeout and pulled their keeper, they would try to mount one last ditch effort. The Cadavers stood their ground and prevented any real pressure from the Green.
Final Score: 3-1 Cadavers

Honor Roll:
3rd Star: Roman
for having a 2 point night even though he played 2 games in a row.
2nd Star: Billy Pearlman for his defense a goal and an assist. Though he gets down graded from 1st to 2nd for "assisting" on the Green goal.
1st Star: You want him in that net. You need him in that net. And he's rather that you just said "Thank you" or go on your way....Brian Carey.
4th Period would be rather subdued due to it being UMass and all. But a few diehards stuck around and had one, if only to celebrate the 40th Birthday on one CEO and now old fart, Matt Kilroy.

Overheard in the "locker room": Sitnik player: Roman playing with you too? He's a tool.

Overheard in the parking lot:
Person A: Your rod hockey team name was the "Rodfathers"? That sounds like a gay porno. Rodfathers: Maybe a regular porno.
Person B: No it sounds like gay porn.
Great job iJosh! See you all next week at the 'daveur!

Suds sing the Blues... bastards.

Schlitz (3) vs Blues
Tuesday October 6th
Dedham 10:10pm

5-3 loss

Ok. I'll level with you. The blogger is seething with bitterness today. The culmination of Bailouts, Politics, Absurd Bank Fees, and all the rest of life's little reminders of suckatude was capped off last night by an uninspired loss to the Blues. In Lizzy word's... a buncha cawksuckahs.

Well... maybe that's not really fair. The Blues in general are a good group. We've had heaps of hard fought competitve matches with them over the years so you can't really be down on them as a group. They are good skaters and, as Dr.Pounds pointed out, they play us smart, and make us work just like the Tigers do. Its no secret why our record against team Blue is very similar to that against El Tigre. You can look it up if you want too... I know its not great.
Anyway...last night's game started off well for the Schlitz but went down hill shortly after the early going. There was a good turnout, despite some traffic issues but everyone made it before the Zamboni was done before the game.
The roster looked like this
D1 George and Roman; D2 Valenti and Jeff
Centers: Larry, Nelson, and sometimes Parker
Wings: Blake, Jasse, Chuck, Scott, and CEO Kilroy

The guys in Gold would get on the board first as they seemed to have the jump in the early going. Larry would score on a feed from Roman. I can't remember exaclty when this happened becasue the sleepy lazy-ass scorekeeper COULDN"T BE BOTHERED TO WRITE DOWN THE TIME! Sorry. I just get frustrated...
The Blues would take that early momentum and turn it right around on the Suds who seemed to slow before the second round of shifts were complete. Team Blue would post 3 before the end of the first, the last one coming with only a minute or two remaining to take a 3-1 lead into the second. Somewhere in that first Larry would be called for a check... iffy... but he did make contact.
To give you an idea how things were going.... Capt. George was as upset and animated as I've ever seen him between periods, making extremely valid points about being out of position in our own end, and the general lack of competitve jump we were showing.
The second would prove out a bit better than the first. The Gold would get back on track for a while and created some nice chances here and there. Lizzy was essentially sound for most of the game and made some regular solid stops. About halfway through the period. Jeff would headman the puck up to Nelson at the blueline, where 'ol Ironsides would take it low into the corner then rifle a pass to Matt Kilroy who tapped it home to bring the game within one. A real nice play.
Unfortunately the Blues would answer before the period was done and we went to the 3rd down 4-2.

The thrid was a bit of a grind, things continued to get a bit chippy... of course there were no (zero) calls on the Blues throughout the game. At one point about halfway through the third, Larry swung behind the net with #3 (f*ckstick) hacking away at him. Larry brings his beef to the Zebras, and promply gets sent to the box for "unsportsmanlike" mouthing off. Great.
The kill went pretty well though, Marc Valenti repeatedly firing slappers out of the zone down to the other end. After the kill the Gold seemed to gather some momentum.

Matt Kilroy would take the puck low into the offensive zone, then made a nice pass to George at the point who unleashed a slapper at the net. Mike Jasse was in perfect position and made a beautiful tip that landed in the upper left corner of the net. Back to a 1 goal game.

Wish I could say things got better, but they didn't. The Blues would score again, and Larry would be called for another penalty, this time being mistaken for Jeff who clearly dropped Mr.KennyG in the slot on his way to the net. Jeff couldn't talk the stripes into taking him instead, but inexplicably the Zebras didn't account for it being Larry's 3rd and allowed him to continue playing after the Gold killed of the penalty.

That just led to another mini-battle with #3 (f*ckface) and Larry as time expired and the Suds lost the game 5-3.

The blogger's only regret was that he didn't pay #3 a special visit during the game, or after for that matter, aside from waiting for him to come off the ice to remind him about keeping his head up next time we play. He laughed. See you next time puke.
Gah. That's enough. I have no more to say or think about this game.
No Stars. No honorable mentions.... aside from Jasse and Scott bringing the beer. Thanks guys.
Lets get 'em next time.

Zombies beat Suds 'daveur #1

Schlitz (2) vs Cadavers (1)
Tuesday Sept. 30th
HinghamC 10:20pm

Cadavers 4

Schlitz 2

The winter season is officially underway with the first Schlidaveur coming in the early going here. A nice turn out for a late game on the South Shore. Nearly a perfect 26 but alas… Hammitt was a no show so the teams skated 13 and 12 a side.
The teams were selected by guest GMs Pete Capraro for the Cads and Dan Gregson for the Schlitz. The available roster was carved up via conference call here in the Executive Suite at Schlidaveur International. Pete won the coin toss and made Brian Carey his first pick. Lizzy went to the Suds and then they alternated players starting with Dan.
We really had a good group of guys including some returning old friends; Stephan Wennik and Kevin Manning, and new faces Ken Douville and Carl Schiller who saw their first team on team action. Stephan, along with Mike Daley are both back with the club after summer season hiatuses, and both new guys look to have something to contribute. Good to have you guys around.
The Teams broke out like this.

Cadavers
Brian in Net
D: George and Billy; Stephan and Kevin Manning
O1: Larry, Nelson, and Capraro
O2: iJosh, Matvey, and Matt Elliot
O3: Jeff, Scott, and Carl Schiller

Schlitz
Lizzy in Net
D: Campbell and Valenti; DWH and Greg
O: Daley; Parker, Gregson, Kilroy, Chuck,
Blake, Ken Douville, Roman

The game turned out to be quite spirited and nicely paced through the first period. The Schlitz were having their way on a regular basis and getting solid chances. The red had to scramble for several shifts in the first 10 minutes and Brian made a number of solid stops. The Gold couldn’t break through and the first ended in a standoff 0-0, with both teams doing a fair amount of panting.
The second period would change the game. The Dead in Red seemed to pull themselves together and started to get things going on offense. The hard working first line with Larry, Nelson and Pete got some excellent early pressure. The resulting chace around gave Nelson the chance to slide one out to Larry in front and Larry banged it home for the lead. The Red took the momentum and ran with it, turning it into another handfull of chances over the next few minutes. Matvey would strike next, after taking the outlet from Stephan through center ice, he made a nice move in the zone and carried toward the net firing a wrist shot that hit Lizzy’s shoulder then flopped over it into the net. 2-0 Red.
Still in the second the Red would get a power play when Campbell went to the box on a take down of Pete. Stephan would add to the point total when he would launch a picture perfect low slap shot from the point off a pass from iJosh. 3-0 Zombies.
But yes, the period wasn’t over, and neither were the Cads. Jeff Fosdick would take a turnover in the neutral zone from Greg James, then would race up the ice, with Greg in hot pursuit. Jeff was able to cut across the net and score with a wobbly wrist shot as he came across the crease with Greg at his ankles. This came with about 30 seconds left in the second. End of 2, four zero Zombies.
The third period would see a comeback for the guys in Gold as they began to turn the momentum back on the Red who tired a bit as the period wore on. With their solid D and relentless forecheck from the likes of Daley, Parker and Roman the Gold did a nice job of grinding out some chances. Parker himself would take advantage of a scramble in the Red end an fired home a loose puck to get the suds on the board.
Not long after, only a few shifts, Valenti would also capitalize on another Red scramble and launched the pattented Valenti slapper past Brian to pull the Suds within 2 and clearly the momentum of the game had swung hard in the Gold’s favor. The third would see another pair of penalties, Campbell for Gold and a makeup on Nelson in Red not long after, but there would be no more special teams scoring.
That was how this one would end the Gold pulled Lizzy but were unable to get anything going in the closing minutes. A hard fought game that with a few bounces either way could have looked dramatically different. Great work by everyone involved.

Game Stars
3rd Star: Brian Carey. Kept the Red in the game in the first. Solid...as always.

2nd Star: The Gold Roster. Ok maybe a cop out... but the Gold deserve cred for not giving up after a short flagging period in the second. The D was stout, the forwards relentless and there was clearly no lack of effort coming from the beercans all night.

1st Star: Stephan Wennik. The blue-line vet for the Red, fresh off his summer vacation, came in to solidify the Zombie D... oh and by the way scored a power play goal, which was the game winner, and threw in an assist for good measure. Nice to have you back Stephan.

Honorable Mention: Jeff for the nice breakaway goal. (I know... I know... self adoration society) He must have been doing something right... Campbell asked him how many RedBull's he'd had before the game after the second period. No need for that post goal celebration though....
Overheard in the Parking Lot 1: "That's what we like to hear... we've already touched on beastiality and Grannie incest... and we've only been out here for 10 minutes"
Overheard in the Parking Lot 2: "Blake, after the way Jeff dry humped you behind the net, you should get him to buy you a drink...."
