Playoff Wing Ding! Cads Beat Suds!

Cadavers vs. Schlitz
Playoff Game 3

Cadavers 6
Schlitz 4

Big Zombie Win!

The hype was big. The smack talk was flowing. The Gold had thier playoff future in their hands and the Zombies had a singular purpose. The Red had a chance to avenge the last 'daveur loss and to keep the Schlitz from playing another game. This was playoff Schlidaveur madness and the game delivered on all the lead up.

Now right off the bat lets talk about who wasn't there. Chris Fosdick and Larry Bell were both out of the country and proved to be damaging offensive losses for the Gold. On the flip side the Red were without bigtime playa Matt Elliott and Mike Hammitt, plus had a couple guys Kevin Parker, and Mike Jasse playing in pain. All in all both squads ended up with 11 players and things worked out pretty even.... but I'm sure the aforementioned absentees are feeling the pangs of regret this morning. Can't be helped.
The game started with palpaple tension from both groups. This was increased by a little pregame visit between the lockerrooms. There was a new deal on the table for this one, given all of the expectation and roster bouncing that has characterized this playoffs. This was the deal. Management decided that IF the Cads were to win... and IF the Schlitz were NOT eliminated by that loss, then the victorious squad of Cads would then get to skate as the Gold in the extra game...again IF there was an extra game. This was agreed to (not that there was approval asked for) by the room of Suds "Thats reasonable" was one quote. We'll have more on this later, but suffice to say, the intensity went slightly up from there.
The game started out fast. Both clubs were clearly going at each other to get some early chances. The Cads broke through first on a goal by Kevin Parker from Nelson Sharfman three minutes into the 1st. It didn't take long for the Schlitz to answer when a minute later Jim Sullivan scored on Lizzy (Pete Capraro, Stephan Wennik on the assists) to tie things up. iJosh Greenstein came through for the Zombies next with help from Parker and DJ only to have the Gold answer again this time Sully unassisted. Neither guy was done as iJosh potted another (This time a PP goal from Parker, Nelson) and Sully responded again (nice hat trick in the first period for Sully) and we went to the break tied 3-3.
Rumblings on the bench were that OEJ may be a little rattled (he doesn't give up many) as a result of the Cads getting 3 by him in the first. Both teams knuckled down for the second period.
It was halfway through the period when Nelson (from iJosh) gave the Zombies the lead. Despite the great efforts by the Gold they were held off. Then when Billy Pearlman was whistled off for a big check on Roman "What..? I couldn't stop.." with 2 mins remaining, Dr. Mike Jasse connected on a beauty from Nelson (Mr. Hardworkdownlow) and Jeff Fosdick (Mr. Justkeepitinatthepoint). End of 2 and the Gold were down 5-3.
You have to hand it to the Schlitz. They played very hard in the third, despite getting some extra "love" from the zebras, and scrambled just to get some chances on Lizzy. You know that they were thinking "just shoot the puck"... hell they were yelling it. The stalwart Zombie Keeper was not having any of it. Flashing the pads and gloves Lizzy made several good stops to keep the Suds at bay. As time wound down they pulled OEJ for the extra attacker and scored on a great shot by Pearlman (Dangerous Dave, Matvey) after a prolonged scrum in front and down low.
That would be the end though as the comeback fell short and Nelson potted an empty net goal with :01 sec left on the board. Zombies win!

Gamestars.
3rd Star: iJosh. Nice finishing touches from the i-Man who ended up with 2 goals and an assist. iJosh was all over the place and played a big part of the Zombie victory.
2nd Star: Jim Sullivan. With and old fashioned hat trick in the first period, Jim showed why he has quickly become a valuable member of the Schlidaveurs. He has put up big points challenging for the scoring lead in his rookie season. Last night was no exception, he brought it all night.
1st Star: We've seen his name a lot in this space lately. Nelson Sharfman. Two goals and three assists and more hard work than the Energizer Bunny. Nelson has been just getting it done in these playoffs. Nine points in three games...thats right...NINE. Way to go Nelson. You regularly show the rest of us old guys (and gals) how its done.

Honorable Mention #1: Kevin Parker for the Zombies. 1 goal and 3 assists and another gutty performance. Another guy that always brings it.

Honorable Mention#2: Lizzy. Way to step up and make some big stops down the stretch. Liz had some terrific stops in the third period to hold on to this one. Great work.

Overheard in the Cadavers Locker Room:
Matt: "I walked in and gave them the 'Coon. Actually I just tossed it right at One Eye Jack."
Parker: "Did it go by him?"

Overheard in the Parking Lot:
" I like holdin' it. Its soft.... and nice and fuzzy."

Fourth Period Honors.
Beermen: Campbell, Jasse, Nikhamik, iJosh, and Kevin Manning for the Shots!

Chow: Miran for the delicious cookies. Kilroy for the delicious Pizza.
Jello Baby!

Three members of the Gold enjoy the 'Coon's company.

Hmm. The 'Coon looks hungry. Or maybe he's just checking out Lizzy.

So Schlitz gets potentially screwed out of two games?
We already lost one game to "bye" week

Yes, you get screwed. You get screwed because you didn't win when you had to. Schlitz won the last Schlidaveur, and your reward was the bye, and the better seed. I don't recall any of you bitching about missing a game when you got he better seed. In fact, you bitched TO get the better seed. Then, with your cushy 2-0 record, you had to beat the lowly CADs, that you all talked so much smack about all week. And you didn't. So you get screwed. HA!

Victory is so sweet.

For the record I did just that...ask Matt

The Schedule was messed up from the start...I pointed that out several times.
If there was no stupid "bye"/default win, then we would not be even talking about this right now - unless both teams ended up 2-1.

BTW - when the switch was made between 1st seed and 5th seed, the whole schedule was not even out yet. So, none knew that Schlitz was going to get a bye week.
