Suds outlast Minus in PIM fest

Schlitz (3) vs D-Minus
Wednesday 10/12
Canton 10:10pm

2-1 Win

Again the blogger was not around for this one so again we call on the excellent talents of one of our regular guest-bloggers iJosh. Here he is with all the sordid truth you can take.

So a rainy night in Canton would have the Golden Suds take on D-Minus.

We would welcome new goalie Mark Boudreau.  He Mark would be a welcomed addition playing a solid night between the pipes.

Mark would be joined by:

Roman Kurin, Matvey and Jared Gordon on the Sitnick line.Nelson Sharfman, Kevin Parker and Matt Elliott on the 2nd line and Mike Daley, Mike Goodwin and Dan Gregson playing on the checking line.  Dan with Hands and iJosh would pair up on the D.  Eric Bauer would pair with Jeff Marrietta.

The game would be chippy from the start.  Jeff Marrietta would go for a questionable trip, followed by Mike Daley for a matching rough.  Shortly after leaving the box, Jeff would return (he missed it) for another questionable trip.  That's not all.  Matvey would be shown the sin bin after an ill-advised slashed.  In the middle of all of this, Mike Daley was able to pick the trash (off a Gregson shot) with some hard work and put one past the goalie.  This would get the D-Minus yelling about the officiating as they believed that the whistle should have been blown.  At the end of one it would be 1-0 Good Guys.

The second would start with a quick whistle in front of the Suds goalkeeper.  This would get the Minus grousing even more.  However despite their constant griping it would not help our position with the refs as Matvey would be shown the box again.  This time for a trip.  After a successful kill, the Minus would even up the score with a tip in that would make its way between the pads of Mark.  But Dan with Hands would put the Suds back on top.....this came with a.......wait for it.......wait for it......an assist from Roman. The 2nd would end 2-1 Schlitz.

The 3rd would be notable.  But not necessarily for good reasons.  Bauer would start the trend with a hook.  This would be followed by a slash from Jared Gordon.  Then an elbow from Bauer.  Then iJosh would lose his cool briefly as he would fall to the ice pinned in the corner.  The Minus player, holding his stick and yelling that iJosh had him in a leg lock (legs were wrapped around but not holding him there).  iJosh got up and told the guy to STFU and gave him a push a shove and tried a take down.....over reaction?  Maybe.  The bitching didn't stop there as the Minus would continually chide iJosh while they both were in the box.  Finally Josh told him to stop being such a "kitty cat".  Okay maybe another word for kitty was used.  Shortly after that Bauer would get his 3rd for unsportmanlike and get shown the door.  The Suds would kill off the penalty to end the game.

So the final tally:
 2 goals for.
 1 goal against.
 10 penalties.

Very undisciplined game.  But luckily we got through.  Next time we may not be so lucky.

Game Stars:

1st: Mike Daley for his gritty goal.
2nd: DWH for his GW goal
3rd: Mark Boudreau for his rookie performance in goal.

Great work iJosh. Thanks for the guestblog. Excellent stuff.

Suds drop the Minus!

Schlitz (13) vs D Minus
Thursday July 29th
Hingham 10:10pm

2-1 Win

Another beautiful night for steamy summer hockey on the south shore and our heroes in Gold faced off against the more and more plucky D-Minus club that we've had some good games against this season. Last night was true to form and the game was even or a one goal affair for most of the way.
The heat hasn't done the ice in Hingham any favors and for a long time it was wet and soft in lots of places which had a big effect on the smoothness of the game for a while.

Here is your melty/sweaty humid Beercan Roster
Brian "long arm of the law" Carey in Net
D1: Reynolds, Parker
D2: Jeff, iJosh
O1: Baker, Chris, Jay Seaver
O2: Roman, Matvey, John Carey
O3: Nelson, Ken/Mitch, and Howard

The game was close. Brian made some nice stops but only saw occasional action as the Beercans would take the game right to the Minus and would do well moving the puck and getting chances. The Minus keeper played VERY well and saw lots of shots. He gobbled up everything near him and the Can's couldn't seem to get anything consistent going. The Minus players did a good job getting after it all night and contested everything.

The first would go scoreless and without penalties.

The second would go a long time before the lamp was lit and the ice "broken" as far as scoring. Mark Reynolds would make a nice play at the point and would drive a shot, two feet off the ice toward the net. Jay Seaver would pivot, and deflect the shot, in mid air into the net for the 1-0 lead. Nice work there by both guys. The second would end 1-0.

The third period would see a bit more action as contests for the puck all over the ice became... more contentious shall we say. Baker would go on a match for a rough early in the period. You could see it coming with Steve, he has been prone to boiling over lately when receiving "attention" from the opponents. The teams would skate 5-5. Then later in the period Mark Reynolds would go, also on a match where lots of pleasantries were exchanged. Just helpful hints and encouragement I imagine passing between sportsmen... or not.

Sometime before the Reynolds penalty, but with less than 10 minutes remaining the Beercans would strike again. This time John Cary would pick up a Roman rebound and bury it to give the Gold the 2-0 lead. Good work by Roman working the zone, and great finish by John who has been a nice little addition to our squad this summer.

The Minus weren't quitters and the two goal lead didn't slow them down. With just under 2 minutes to play the Gold would be back on their heels and scrambling in our own end and eventually they would poke one under Brian who had been down, up, and squirming around trying to get the puck... no one in Gold could get it either and the game was within a goal. They would pull their keeper but the Mighty Beercans would survive the last minute and a half and take home a very nice, hard fought 2-1 win... just like mother used to make.
Good stuff.

Game Stars: (two for one theme this week)
3rd Star: Nominated in the locker room by Brian... Ken/Mitch and Howard for getting after it and being in position all night. True dat. Props to the third line wings for making it happen all night.

2nd Star: I'm going with Mark Reynolds and Roman Kurin both with assists and good work all night on both ends of the ice.

1st Star: Goal scorers Jay Seaver, and John Carey. Without their finish... we'd be finished. Good work guys.

4th period awards....
Howard and Chris for bringing Bud Lite... and Bud Lite. Always nice to down a cold one... or two in the postgame lot in Hingham. Warm, moonlit night... Stones on the radio... too bad the blogger had to work today...

Suds Fail... D-minused.

Schlitz (4) vs D-Minus
Thursday May 27
Hingham 10:10pm

3-1 loss

The Beercans had another south shore matchup with the D-Minus crew who we spanked just a week ago at the same rink. Certainly everyone was hoping for a similar result. Unfortunatley the pregame lockerroom chatter about “carefull about underestimating the opponent” turned out to be a foreshadowing of exactly what we would do on the ice.

Heres your roster to start
Brian “Long arm of the Law” Carey in Net
D1: George and Mark Reynolds
D2: Campbell and Jeff
O1: John Carey, AK, and iJosh
O2: Baker, Parker and Gregson with Dr. Pounds doing an admirable job all night rotating through the lines and keeping track.

The Golden Beercans would skate circles around the rink in the first, lots of passing and a good number of chances in the Minus end. John Carey would pop in a rebound (from iJosh) only 40 seconds into the game to put the gold up by one. Unfortunatley, and somewhat unexpetedly, that would be the only tally of the period and there was no question the prevailing attitude on the bench was “we got this”… cue the ominous music going into the break

With the game not even close to being decided the Gold seemed to perceptibly slow as the second period wore on. It was like a slow power drain as the Minus played with a little bit more grit and opportunity than in past contests. They would start to get some chance on Brian and the Gold was getting fewer chances in the other end. Reynolds would go for a trip halfway throught the period but no scoring on the penalty
Then with just under 3 minutes to play in the period George would go for a hook and Maroon wasted lest than 30 seconds before they would pop one home by Brian to tie up the game. The Gold then got the first wiff that the night might be going sour.
Worse than that was the fact that right after that there would be another scramble in front of Brian and the Minus would knock it in during the scrum and would take the lead along with all of the momentum in the building.
Now the second goal was a bit fishy. It seemed Brian had the situation covered and the crowd had kind of stopped around him, but the zeebs were holding the whistles tight and it seemed to take a long time to get one just about everytime it was tied up.

Regardless the now tired and bewilderd Beercans faced the third period now down a goal and the opponet was feelign the confidence and the momentum.

The third just went predictibly badly. Looking eerily similar to the cheap folding table, poor excuse of a professional hockey club from Boston, the Gold litterally just let it slip away in the third. The shifts weren’t as short as they should have been and that led to tired legs. We lost almost all intensity and aggresiveness in the one on one battles and turned the opponent into more of a force than they were in the earlier part of the game.

About 4 minutes into the period the Maroon would score another on a good hard work effort by their forwards and the Gold was in full involuntary constricting upper esophagus collapse.

Now… before I get all dumpy on the good guys… there were chances, and opportunities… just nothing that worked. Jeff would have something like 5 shots in a shift early in the period, the only problem was that none of them were actually on the net. Barn door, Jeff. Jeff, barn door. Nothing. Steve Baker would wheel and deal a few time and ended up with 3 legit breakaway chances none of which had much hope. George had a nice rush and wrap around attempt but the Minus were up to the task.
They did have a differnent keeper than the last game but honestly it wasn’t like we challenged him with many really strong chances
Parker would take a matching penalty close to the end but that was just about it. No big finish or comeback to report.

The only up side was a few cold ones, Gregson and Jeff brought a few Buds of the light and the regular variety that were enjoyed in the atmospheric lighting of the rink parking lot.

Honorable Mentions to Scott for doing the rotating and keeping track up front, and to our gal Lizzy for keeping score in excellent form. Honestly the blogger looked over at her in the booth sipping a Bud light at one point thinking I’d rather be there…
Sad.

Suds sink the minus... weak revenge.

Schlitz(2) vs D-Minus
Thursday May 13
Hingham 10:10pm

8-4

The league called up and offered us a "bonus" game of sorts, so the Dead in Red..err Golden Beercans threw together a roster and met up with the D-Minus over in Hingham for a late evening engagement. This was the same club that beat the Cads in the one game playoff game at the end of last season. That night they had an epic goaltender and really stole on from the Red, so there was a thought of retribution in some minds as we took the ice.
Heres the Roster
Lizzy in Net
D1: Brian Carey; Mike Campbell
D2: Jeff Fosdick; DWH
O Centers: Jason Seaver, Neil Shah
O Wings: Roman, Matvey, Capraro, Gregson, Baker, and John Carey

This one would be a bit wild, and it didn’t start particularly well. The Minus would take the opening face off, walk into our zone and let loose a low skidding shot that slowly rolled right at Lizzy, right under her and into the net for a 1-0 lead just 20 seconds in.

The Gold shook their heads and headed back up ice. Thankfully new star center Jason Seaver would tie the game less than 30 seconds later and it was clear we were in for a long night.

The Gold would follow with a goal from Matvey assisted by DWH and Neil, then an unassisted tally from John Carey for a 3-1 lead pretty early on. Neil would get one of his own on a return the favor pass from Matvey and the first period would end 4-1 good guys. It was clear that the talent in Net for the Minus was well off from the playoff performance.

Steve Baker would take a roughing penalty in the second, and Neil would go for a hook (totally suspect call) in the third and that was all the penalty minutes for the Gold.
D-Minus would score another early in the period to close to 4-2 but the Beercans would answer with another run. Goals from DWH, assisted by Neil, then Neil assisted by Brian Carey, would keep a healthy lead for the good guys. D-Minus would score their third somewhere in there but Neil would complete the Hat-trick before the end of the period, this one from Matvey again. So into the third we would go 7-3.

The third would prove to be the quietest period of the night scoring wise with a goal a side. Roman would knock one home from Mike Campbell that would seal the deal at 8-4. That’s how it would end and in the second half of the game it was a lot closer than it had been in the early going. It will be interesting to see if their goalie situation changes at all when we see this club later in the season.

Game Stars
3rd Star: Dan "DWH" Herbert
for a pair of assists and yet another excellent game of defense
2nd Star: Matvey Nikhamik for a goal and 2 helpers and a very solid game all around

1st Star: Neil Shah. A hat-trick along with 2 assists for a terrific five point night.

The Fourth period would be sponsored by beverage contributions from Gregson and Campbell which were tasty and pleasant to enjoy after a 8 goal winning night.

There were unconfirmed reports about Campbell and Fosdick racing to the bottom of his cooler of ice cold Budlights… but they hadn’t seen each other in a while and its amazing really they could drink that much beer between the two of them never shutting up for 2 seconds.

Good win boys and girls.

Suds Stunned by D-Minus: Crushing Loss

Schlitz (8) vs D-Minus (9)
Play-in game for Islanders Division Playoffs
Tuesday March 31st
Bavis Arena 10:20pm

3-1 Loss

Ooooooh boy. The blogger was glad to be safe home in bed when this debacle took place. Thankfully the guestbloggers have come forward, after a few days to put some perspective on things, and have given us something of a game story to try and figure out what happened. Major ups to iJosh for his usuall excellent work, and to Scott Pounds as well for his humorus contributions. Well, without further delay... lets start with iJosh:

With the season on the brink the Schlitz waltzed into Bavis Arena for a play-in show down with D Minus. The team had a good showing with a full squad of 13 in attendance. Everyone seemed confident that the job could get done and that the Suds could continue on into the next round of the playoffs on Thursday.

So the game would begin with the forwards of: AK, Dr. Pounds, Jasse, Steve Baker, Matt Elliott, Nelson, Matvey, Neil and Mike Daley.
The defensemen would be: Capt George, iJosh, Mark Reynolds and DWH.
Early on Schlitz would control the play. Nice passing, good movement and definitely good opportunities. But nothing to show for it. Defensively the team looked pretty good early as well. Then midway through the 1st the first mistake would cost Schlitz. In the defensive zone with the puck moving forward, a bad pass would be made and deflect to a D- player. The defense would scramble back, but it was too late. D- would make a pass and make a shot. Lizzy would make the initial save, but it would not be enough to prevent the goal. That would leave the team down 1-0. Somewhere in there Mr. Reynolds would get the first penalty of the game. That one would be killed. But the period would still end with Schlitz down 1-0.

The second period would see more good play without much to show for it. But the few mistakes made would be costly. D- would net another goal early on the power play as Neil Shah was called for a ticky-tack call that even the other ref admitted should have been let go. But the damage would be done and the Golden Suds would trail 2-0. Later in the 2nd, Steve Baker would get cross checked from behind by the goalie. After a few seconds, Steve would collect his thoughts and go after the goal keep. The bad news, Steve was headed to the box. The good news, so was someone else to serve for the goalie. Though the ref explained that he had the cross check before Steve retaliated. So that was a power play lost. We've all been there. No harm done. We suck on the power play anyway. So back to five on five hockey. More opportunities were had. A few tips that the Minus goalkeeper just kept finding a way to get his stick/glove/body in the way. So with 2 periods down, Schlitz would be 2 goals down 2-0.
Down only 2 goals and some good play (mixed with some fatal errors) it wasn't unreasonable to think that the Golden Suds could mount a comeback. Team continued to push the puck and take chances. But it wasn't until Steve Baker made a few nifty moves going around the net, squaring in front and making a nice shot did the Schlitz finally get on the board. This would leave us behind only 1 goal with about 7 minutes or so left to play. There were definitely chances. But again nothing to show for it. Then Capt George would push the puck forward leaving only iJosh on the blueline. After a shot sped out toward the high slot, iJosh opted to not chase the puck (seeing that he had no backup) and started to retreat. Matvey was on the chase as well, but as iJosh got to the defensive blue line, he tripped and left Lizzy all alone. The puck would hit her in the shoulder and flip over her and into the net giving the Minus a 3-1 lead. On the next shift, Reynolds would get called on another penalty and be admonished for shooting the puck up the boards while play was still going. No matter, the game would end without any more major action.
And thus ends the season for the Schlitz.

Unfortunately there would be no 4th period. It seems no one thought they could handle the biblical storm and decided to row on home.
==
Ug. Thanks for the story Josh... grim and depressing as it may be...
Lets see what the always ticklish Dr. Pounds had to add concerning this playoff performance.
Here's Scott:

Their goalie was a criminal. We wuz robbed!

He was on fire

and he stoned us.

GoldenZombies Ice the Minus

Cadavers (14) vs D-Minus
Tuesday January 12
Milton Academy 9:20pm

3-0 Win

A cold night at the nice rink in Milton, and an evening that looked like it might be long on shifts and short on skaters as the room was a little on the empty side about 10 minutes before gametime. Nelson walked in and scratched his head knowing that not many usually show up after him, and he made 7.
Of course let it be known that the early omens weren't good. There happened to be a neatly printed page taped to the door that said "Girls Locker-room" which was noticed by more than one Zombie on the way in. Then there was the copious lack of water bottles... Mike Campbell had a full one in his bag, but since it had been in his truck all day, it was solid like a rock.
Luckily some more players filtered in. Goody, then Blake and Reynolds showed to round the Zombies out to a nice even ten.
Here's what the lineup looked like.
Brian "Long arm of the Law" Carey in Net.
D1: Campbell and Jeff
D2: Reynolds and Hammitt
O1: Goody, Baker, and Underhill
O2: Nelson, AK, and Chris

Not bad for a chilly Tuesday night and all ten made it to the bench in the opening few minutes of the game.
The D-Minus crew had their usual solid turn out. Again the Blogger salutes them for having one of the best Jersey's we've seen in our division in a while. Givent that those shirts are dark red the Cads would skate as the Gold for the night. They seem to have added a girl along the line somewhere and she was a bright spot showing great hustle all night. The rest didn't show too much pop and the Zombies in Gold were able to control the play for the balance of the evening.

Most of the Gold played pretty well but despite many many opportunities in the first period they were unable to break through to gain a lead. The Minus stood up pretty well to the Gold barrage, and Brian had to make a few stops as they counter punched a few times. The first would end 0-0, no goals and only one penalty to Hammitt who held up his man at the offensive point for a hook late in the period. The tie at the end of the first was good because we were able to beg for a water bottle and thanks to the Minus sportsmanship they shared and we had some much needed hydration.

The second saw a step forward for the offense but a continued problem with penalties. First the offense. The Gold was doing a solid job with the forward cycling and doing a nice job keeping the puck in the zone and moving it around for chances. Nelson would make a great play jon the end boards and fired a nice pass out to the point. Jeff one-timed the pass to the net and AK (who was mucking it up in front) deflected it by the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
Shortly after that the Gold would get called for too many men when there was a botched change about midway through the period. The PK went just fine, in fact the Gold was able to get a couple of chances even being down. Nelson and AK both did great work on the PK all night.
Speaking of the PK, Hammitt would make his next trip to the box later in the period. Hammitt got to a puck in our own end and fired it then decked the guy covering him. The ref came by the bench chuckling after the call and had this to say.
"I think that was the first roughing call I've seen from a belly buck... did you see how far the kid went that he hit?" The guy was noticeably smaller than Mike, but apparently had been running his mouth... for what its worth...
The third would see more of the same from the second. Goody would score a nice goal, lifting it over the keeper after a nice pass from Blake Underhill. This was actually the second goal scored in the period but the first one was disallowed because of Zeebra "selective shortsightedness"... he couldn't see the puck... mostly because it was behind the keeper...
The Gold would strike again when Nelson would take a pass from Jeff at the point and pop it home for the icing on the cake. 3-0 and no further scoring to report.
Hammitt however... would make the game complete as he would collect another rough after knocking over his guy after taking the puck from him in our end. 3 and out for Mike again and he watched from outside the boards the rest of the way. Campbell would take one in the closing minute... I think just to make sure Ham didn't get too far ahead in the Campbell Cup standings.

Game Stars
3rd Star: *cough cough* Jeff Fosdick
for two nice assists and not a horrible night on D.
2nd Star: Nelson for a nice goal and an assist and his usual excellent leadership through hard work. The guy just never stops trying.

1st Star: Brian Zero Degrees Carey for a nice win and shutout.

Honorable mentions to AK for being all over the place and having a great night, and Mark Reynolds for the same.

One more HM for brother Chris who just happened to have a handfull of cold delight tucked under his seat. There was a very cold footstamping, hat adjusting, cars running sibling conference in the parking lot for no more than 15 minutes. No frostbite to report.

GoldenZombies take D-Minus.

Cadavers (14) vs D-Minus
Monday August 24
Quincy 7:10pm

8-1 Win

Another good night by the swamp for Team Zombie as the summer season begins to wind down. We have collectively had good luck with this new team, who has struggled through their first year in our division. The Tenured ‘daveurs will recall when we looked just like that team, for many years, just scratching for a tie or a win. We’ve been where they are now, many times for sure. They have a lot to like about them in the Blogger’s opinion. Excellent unis. First rate logo for said unis. Good turnout and thanks to their keeper a good effort against the skating Zombies. The Cads wore the Schlitz colors as the D-minus jerseys were red.

The roster for the Dead in Yellow looked like this. Captain Mark Reynolds wasted no time assigning the positions in the pregame room
D1: Mark, Steve Baker
D2: Jeff, Roman
O1: Larry, Jasse, and Neil
O2: Goody, Parker, Scott and Nelson showed late to make the “rotation”

The game would go pretty much as expected but thanks to the D Minus goalie it stayed very close for a very long time. The Red in Gold would get lots of chances and the Minus Keep would be more than up to the task turning all kinds of junk aside. The Zombies wouldn’t break through until just under 3 minutes left in the first when Neil would bury a pass from Mike Jasse for the first of the night. This was followed not more than minute later by a classic breakdown in our own end that would tie the game.

This particular play was one of a handful where Roman and Jeff tried to show textbook examples of how NOT to play Defense. Holding the puck too long (Roman), not passing cleanly out of the zone and turning it over (Jeff)..the result… a wraparound goal on Matt and exchanged angry stares between Jeff and Roman.

Larry and Jasse would prop up the Dead though just before the end of the first when Larry would score courtesy of a Jasse rebound and the Zombies would have the lead back, 2-1 after 1.

The second period would stay close and scoreless for nearly the duration. Both keepers played very well, and Matty continues to round into a very nice keep in his own right, showing genuine talent and cool in the appropriate situations.

The Zombies would take a penalty, Larry for a check, but the kill would be no problem. Then the Gold would knock hard on the Minus doorstep getting bunches of chances. Kevin Parker would finally answer the multiple calls from the bench to “lift it” and would score on a wobbly floater that would find its way home. Mike “Goody” Goodwin would help close out the period on a play from Roman and Nelson and would finish the play nicely for a cozy 4-1 lead after two.

Those last two goals took the wind out of the Minus, who had really played pretty well up to that point. Again the Tenured ‘daveurs will be familiar with the feeling that once it goes… it goes hard. That’s the way it went for the Minus as the Zombies would have their way for 4 goals in the third. Neil from Larry at about 8 minutes. Then Larry from Neil and Nelson at about 3 minutes. Nelson would get his own hard work goal (what else does he score?) from Neil and Jeff with 2 minutes left. Things were in full decline and slide at this point. Goody would wrap things up with his second, with a helper from Steve Baker just 30 seconds later.

At this point the Blogger needs to mention that the Zombies in Gold were clearly taking advantage of a wounded team at this point. Piling on came to mind, but there was really no malicious intent. Again, we’ve been there, we’ve had another squad feed on us like sharks with blood in the water when we were down, that’s just the way it goes. One exception however. Steve Baker has quite a shot… a cannon really… and Steve was clearly anxious to get on the board as he unleashed said cannon from about 10 feet away in the slot as time was winding down. That was probably unnecessary. In fact one of the Zeebs even mentioned to one of the Gold that if someone had done that to us up 8-1 there would have been a scene… and the Zeeb is right.

Just for future reference lets try to keep things on the “good sport” side of things. The D-Minus were a bunch of good guys that were trying hard and didn’t really need to have their noses rubbed in it too much. … in that vein… The Coon of Shame kicked open the locker room door during the post game. Steve had already left but the Coon went sniffing around for his bag, asking for him, dropping cigarette butts and hiccuping around the room… mumbling something about being called “George” for the rest of the season and something about ‘Where the bleep the Tuna guy went”… just a word to the wise… lets keep the old Coon at bay and play smart.

So that aside… lets give out some Stars and awards.

3rd Star: Nelson “late to the show’ Sharfman. One goal and 2 helpers and all the hard work you can watch…

2nd Star: Larry SW Bell for a pair of goals, and an assist

1st Star: Another great night for Neil “R.O.Y.” Shah, with a nice round 2 goals, 2 assists. Great work.

Honorable Mention1: Goody for a pair of goals and a nice all around night.

Honorable Mention2: Roman Bleeping Kurin. That’s right. Roman played D all night, as Jeff’s partner no less, and had a helper. He not only survived the night with Jeff, despite glares and comments, and had an all around solid effort. This capped off with the fact that ROMAN BROUGHT BEER for the 4th period. A very nice clutch of BL Limeys on ice. So nice for an early night by the Swamp. Thanks Roman, for the beer and for skating D with Jeff all night.

Suds Punish D Minus after Traffic Debacle

Schlitz (14) vs D-Minus
Tuesday August 11th
Canton 10:10pm

9-1 Win

This was a strange one on a hot night in Canton. Apparently there was a car fire right before the 139 exit off of route 24 that cause major problems. Poor iJosh was reduced to updating his Facebook status from his cellphone... chatting with Ken as they sat next to each other in traffic (in their own cars) then turning around and going home having missed the game for all his trouble.
Sounds like it took its toll on ours and Dminus' roster so things came out even. Nice to play a "weaker" team on a night like this. Nice to see those numbers on the scoreboard for us. Here are some quick Guest blog comments. First from Capt. Mark Reynolds:

"Not much of a game last night. An overwhelming 9-1 win for the Suds.
About 1/2 the team for both sides didn't make it to the game due to a car fire on Rt. 24.
We played with 5 skaters for 1/2 of the fist period until replacements arrived. No one complained about not enough ice time.

The Suds took a few penalties on BS calls, but it didn't impact the game.

Congrats to H.H. for scoring his first goal!"

Thanks Mark. Friends Mark happend to leave out that he had a FIVE GOAL NIGHT. That news would come in from our man Larry Bell who would submit this recap of the night's fun:

"I got there just as the game was starting after sitting in traffic for 1/2 hour on 24 about 1 mile from the exit. Apparently there was a car fire, but it was extinguished by the time I passed by. Campbell, Steve, Howard, Mark and Scott were our only 5 skaters at the time and Brian was in net. George and Hammitt made it onto the ice by the start of the second, for a strong 8. I think D- had about 10, but it didn't matter. We were in their zone all night and peppered their goalie who held down the fort as best he could. But, he could only do so much, they are a truly bad team.

Scoring Summary
1st: Heppleman 1 - unasst, Baker 1 - unasst, Baker 2 - unasst
2nd: Reynolds 1 - unasst, Reynolds 2 - Campbell, Reynolds 3 - unasst
3rd: Reynolds 4 - Hammitt, Reynolds 5 - George, Baker 3 - unasst.

9 goals, 3 assists - another stellar night by the refs and scorekeeper...

Penalties
1st: Baker - Penalty Shot for D-, stopped by BCare.

Good work boys. Sorry about the rough traffic... but I'm glad to hear about the outcome.
Lets hope we draw this crew for the first round of the playoffs for one of the teams.

Suds Down D-Minus! ...last week.

Schlitz (5) vs D-Minus
Thursday June 11
Canton, 7:00pm

7-2 Win!

Wow team... this one is already a week old and I dont have any stories to tell on this one, but it looks like it was a good night at the rink. Abley backstopped by CEO BMF Mad Matt Kilroy the Suds put the Whoop on the newbies of the division with a great 7-2 win.

All I can tell you is what has been reported from the scoresheet. Namely that Larry had 2 goals and 2 assists on the night... nice to see him returning to his SW ways, Nelson had a Hat Trick (like a Timex...)and Pete Capraro with a goal and 2 helpers to round out the night. Newcomer Steve Baker potted 2 goals as well, already showing that this season's rookie of the year race is going to be one to watch.

Great job to everyone... and anyone willing to comment or give us a tale or two please feel free. In the absence of that... here are the stats.

Baker to Pete 6:33 1st
Larry alone 5:41 1st
Pete to Chuck 1:50 1st
