Suds win Huskies Division Championship.

Schlitz vs Cadavers
Thursday May 1
Canton 9:10pm
Schlitz 4
Cadavers 0
The Suds win the Winter Season Championship with a spirited win over the persistant Cadavers last night in Canton. The third and Ultimate meeting of the Schlitz and Cadavers in this playoff season was a tight and hard fought game, with both sides clearly playing hard for the Championship Bragging Rights.
Both teams added players, Greg James returned for the Suds while three Cadavers rejoined the lineup with Mike Hammitt, Blake Underhill, and Mark Bates returning to action. These teams played a barn-burner 3-2 game on Monday night at the same time, and the same rink and this matchup, for all the "marbles" promised to be a good one.
The game started with some good chances on both ends and showed that it would be a hard and close game right off the bat. The Golden Suds were the first to get some consistant pressure and OEJ did a great job shutting down chances. The entire period went by, seeming longer than it really was, without a score.
The Second Period likewise remained scoreless for a long time. The Schlitz were clearly getting the majority of the chances and the Red were often forced to scramble in their own end. The frustration on the Zombie side of things started to bubble over. Mike Hammitt went for his first, a Slash, at 11:35 in the 2nd. The Schlitz weren't able to avoid their own problems with the Zebras as they were called for the next three. Greg James took the first, a Trip at 9:09. The Suds were able to kill off that power play without any consistent chances for the red.
The Schlitz would finally break through as time got short in the second. Pete Capraro, set up by Billy Pearlman, slipped a long low shot in from the point that found its way past OEJ to the back of the net with 5:35 remaining. The cheer from the Suds bench was loud as first blood was finally drawn.
The game turned complicated for the Guys in Gold as the Penalty bug nipped them once again and threatened to undue the hard gained advantage. James went off again for an Interference at 4:44 but then things got bad when Pete Capraro went off at 3:55 giving the Red a 5 on 3 for close to a minute of playing time. The Zombies got a few chances but the hard work from the Gold pk paid off and they were able to come out of the 2 man down unscathed. Credit good skating from forward Roman Kurin who really helped the cause with timely break ups. There is no question this was a huge momentum builder for the Schlitz to escape that situation.
Things continued to unravel for the Cads soon after as they were assesed a bench minor for too many men with just over 2 minutes in the second. This would lead to another Schlitz strike, this time as Greg James picked up a loose puck and buried a nice wrister to put the 'cans up 2-0 with 1 minute left. Thats how the period would end.
The third period saw more furious action as the red continually tried to mount some kind of offense with out great success. The Suds would strike a meare 3 minutes into the period to take a Commanding 3-0 lead thanks to a great goal by Kevin Parker, credit Chris Foz on the assist.
More frustration after that as Mike Campbell took his second less than a minute later adn Hammitt his second 2 minutes after that. The suds didn't convert to extend their lead, but likewise killed the last of their own penalties when Bill Pearlman went for a hold with 9 minutes left.
The Zombies would continue to valliantly try to mount some form of attack, even pulling OEJ with more than two minutes remaining. This only resulted in a Empty Net Goal from Matt Elliott, Chuck Slate on the assist, that finally closed the door on this one.
A great final game for a really nice season. Kudos and thanks to one and all.
The fourth period was no less worthy of the magnitude of the game with an exquisite layout of Sushi and Dumplings from Miran James. Thanks so much to her for bringing the goods! You spoil us with your tasty treats.
Game Stars
3rd Star: Alright. He was a no-show on the score sheet (points or penalties) which almost never happens. But the Blogger feels inclined to give the 3rd star to Larry Bell. Larry clearly gave it his all and was all over the place for the Dead in Red. He had a great playoffs, lugging a lot of "mail" for his team and making chances happen through effort and toughness. No wonder he's the points leader year in and year out. Nice work Larry... as always.
2nd Star: Pete Capraro. Scores the eventual Game Winner with a sneaky low shot from the point. Pete had a great playoff run, showing his legs and grit in every game. He has really become a valuable contributor every time he's on the ice. Good job Pete.
1st Star: It's a shutout baby, so you know what that means. Suds goalie Brian Carey walks away with the number one star for a Championship Game Shutout. Brian has played great every game in the playoffs for the team this year and has been a welcome addition to our goaltending rotation. Thanks Brian. Great job.
Fourth period was appropriatly festive. A few shots below from the cellphone cam will give you an idea if you weren't there. Thanks to all who brought beer.
Stay tuned for more pics of the winners on and off the ice in the coming days.
Until then.
Great job Schlitz. 2 titles in a row.... and the first winter title in franchise history. Nice work.

Zombies Beat Suds! Force ULTIMATE Schli-double-daveur-championship Game!

Schlitz (3)[2-0]
Monday April 28
Canton, 9:10pm
Cadavers 3
Schlitz 2
Well now its on, isnt it. The Golden Schlitz with a chance to lock up the first winter season Championship in Franchise history let one get away as the plucky, pugnacious, persistant Zombies fought and scratched their way to an impressive 3-2 win. This game was close, all night long. Looking back its hard to place another Schlidaveur game that has been played with more intensity. Tight forechecking, good scoring chances, odd man rushes, rebounds, penalties this game had it all.
Now the table has been set. There will indeed be one more game. The Cads have now won one and lost one (first game) to the Schlitz and that forces the Ultimate Championship Game coming your way later this week. (Stay tuned).
Lets talk about how this one went down first. There were a few players not participating, Blake Underhill, and Mark Bates were out, and Mike Hammitt was a late scratch for the Zombies. Likewise the Golden Schlitz were without 2 key defensemen Greg James (involved in some sort of Japanese Schoolgirl Fantasy Camp) and Marc Valenti (sprained wrist) were out. Valenti was nice enough to come and take some pics [see posts to come] and help run things on the Gold bench. True team player.
The first period saw furious action back and forth but not much scoring. The Schlitz had chances to go up early but were turned away. Likewise the Cads would have their fair share. The Schlitz let the penalty bug nip them as Billy Pearlman was sent to the sin bin for a hook at 14:35 remaining in the first. The PK worked well for the Cans and the period began to wind down.
It was the Cads turn next as habitual offender Mike Campbell was sent out for a trip at 4:17. The Schlitz totally botched the powerplay not only not getting any good chances but as the penalty expired the Dead in Red swooped into the zone courtesy of some nice work from Stephan Wennik and landed the first point of the game. Stephan went behind the net, aptly avoiding the D and popped a shot on Brian that rebounded out to Ken Goldenberg who was standing alone in the slot and rang up the first goal.
The Schlitz frustration would boil over as the period expired and Kevin Parker went out this time for a crosscheck with only 2 sec on the clock.
The Second period saw more scoring and more up and down action. The Beercans would even up the game on a nice play from DWH who buried another sweet wrist shot past OEJ, credit the double Matts (Kilroy and Elliott) on the helpers with 14:20 on the clock.
This lead wouldn't last long however as the Zombies fought right back this time Matvey Nikhamik put one home from iJosh and Ken to go back up on top at 11:17. Again the Zombies would send men to the box as the Schlitz ramped up the play after going down a goal again. Matvey would go for a charge at 7:45, and Larry Bell would sit for a trip at 6:02. Alas the Golden Schlitz couldn't capitalize again, with poor work on the power play. This led to more bad news for them as the Cads would score again, this time Mike Campbell from Larry and Mike Daley to go up 3-1 with 2:40 left in the second frame.
The 'cans would manage to get one back less than a minute later when Matty Elliott put home a nice feed from Nelson that was the end of a long rush. Matt and Nelson were behind the D in the neutral zone and took a long pass off the boards up ice for a nice rush, the feed from Nelson was a thing of beauty, and Matt finished nicely. 3-2 after 2.
The third period was a grindfest on both ends. Another penalty for the Dead, Ken Goldenberg (all over the scoresheet last night) went at 12:44 for a hook, and another huge missed opportunity for the Schlitz. Despite the ineffectiveness of the power play the gold did manage to build some momentum and started to get stronger chances as the game wore down.
Then the bug came back. With 4:15 Jeff Fosdick took a terrible Interference Penalty after knocking iJosh down in the slot, essentially killing all the momentum the Cans had. To make matters worse 30 sec later Kevin Parker returned to the box for his second Crosscheck penalty of the game. That was it. Despite pulling the goalie in the last 2 minutes the Gold just couldn't put anything together and the strong D of the Cadavers cleared everything away and preserved the win with no further scoring.
Game Stars.

2nd Star: Matt Elliott. The plucky Schlitz forward tallied a goal and an assist and had strong work all night long.
1st Star: Ken Goldenberg. Yep thats right. Mitch scored the ice-breaker for the Cads than assisted on the next one. He made the tri-fecta with a penalty in the third and just played great all night. Great work Ken.
Honorable Mention 1: Great play from Larry and the rest of the Cads forwards.
Honorable Mention 2: Teammate Kevin Manning for showing up (despite not being able to play) and bringing JELLO SHOTS for the post-game. Great to see you Kev. Thanks for the jello and coming by to root on the troops.
Honorable Mention 3: DWH played great all night, had a critical goal for the Schlitz and continued to influence the play all over the ice. Dan is one of the guys (Daley and Elliott also) who played a tournament over the weekend and I think was playing in his 5th game in 4 days. Great work.
Postgame stuff.
The Sandwich; Billy gettin jiggy with it;
Kevin (thanks for the jello!);
Daley, Valenti and Elliott.
So now it comes down to just one more. One last winner take all game to settle the Winter Championship for the Huskies Division. This time someone is going home with the trophy. Will they be in a Red Jersey or a Yellow one? Who will be able to make this game? This is what its all about. Two teams enter... one team leaves. We've reached the summit, the climax, the Ultimate Championship Schlidaveur Scenario is upon us. If I could think of any more supuraltives I'd blurt them out... but you get the picture.
Stay tuned team. ... wait... this just in...

Schlidaveur Championship Game Tonight!

Cadavers (2, 2-1)
Canton 9:10
Huskies Division Championship Game!
(1 of possible 2)
The Golden (and Good Looking) Schlitz face off against the Gritty and Battle Tested Cadavers for the Division Championship. We all know what happened the last time these two met in this very Playoff Tournament. But things were different. The opening game of the playoffs for both clubs had juggled rosters and several key players out.
Now the Zombies have won two in a row, a crushing win over the Freeze and a spectacular clutch win over the first seeded Tigers last week. Can the Golden Schlitz hold off the rampaging Zombies? Who will show and play?
Remember now, if the Zombies win tonght it will force a Penultimate Championship Schli-double-daveur to break the 1 game each tie. This scenario will certainly make the Blogger's head explode, as he is already running out of superlatives... But it is certainly possible.
Roster update and Review....as of 11:00am today.

Winning Ugly. Zombies toast Prettyboy Beercans

Sunday March 9
Dedham 9pm
Cadavers 4
Schlitz 1
An epic night at the very nice (and very cold) new Dedham arena. The Cadavers put down the (relatively speaking) better looking Schlitz, and came out looking much the better at the end of the evening. The gold made the effort, backstopped by the CEO-BMF Matt Kilroy who played great, but they just couldn't put it together. Some great play up and down as the game was 1-0 for a long time from what I recall.
The blogger apologises for the hacked post but after getting to rink and realizing the terrible, terrible mistake I'd made, I tried to gut (hrm..bad choice) it out and play, but left the bench in the mid 2nd period to spare you all the color and shapes of my intestines. I actually made it all the way home, teeth clenched, eyes crossed. I arrived to then examine the contents of the deepest parts of me as they continually came out for then next 8 hours. Fun.
Sorry to "share" so much but, I'm just starting to feel semi-human again and feel the need.
I'm going to hand it over to our pinch-hitting blogger iJosh (who's been hitting for strong average) for a brief wrap on the game action.
Since you couldn't stomach sticking around, I'll just spew out the details.
Winning Ugly:
It seems that the "Pretty Boys" just didn't have the toughness needed to play with the "Rugged Boys". Anyway, the game would start out without much ado. A few opportunities on either side, but nothing on the scoreboard. Then the Jass-Man would add to his assist totals as he would feed Larry who finished the deal to start off the scoring.
That is the way that the 1st period would end. In the second more of the same. Lots of good play, but no goals early. Then George would see Hammitt running up the right boards and hit him tape to tape. Hammitt would get ahead of Roman toward the net and beat Kilroy top side right. Later in the period, iJosh would put pressure on Greg James deep in Schlitz's zone. Greg would center the pass where Matvey stole it and put a shot on goal. Mr. Kilroy would make the initial save, but iJosh would pick up the rebound and tuck it away 5-hole style. That would finish the 2nd period.
In the 3rd, play was again pretty even, but still no breaks for the Suds. Then after a little chaos, Nelson would put one home to close the gap to 3 - 1. In the closing minutes, Schlitz would pull their goalie, but iJosh would gather the puck from (I forget who, but I think Matvey) skate just past center ice and put home the empty netter.
That would be all she wrote as the "Pretty Boys" fall in a not so pretty way.
Penalties to:
Pearlman
Valenti
Valenti
Moorachian
Matvey? check that one.
4th period feature LOTS of beer and a kick-ass sub.
Thanks Josh. You are the man coming through today. Good show by all. I really wish I could have been there...esp. for the beer and the sub. In fact I wanted to be there so much I'd talked myself into ignoring what my body was telling me, namely that I was in for a world of hurt.
Check.
Sorry no game stars, but we can do a supplemental post for this game. In fact thats a good idea, please send me your nominations for games stars and any stories (however short) you'd like to share.
Thanks.

Rosters Set. Who's Hot Who's Not!
Our elite panel decided the best way to lay it out for us. The word was bitter but rang true. The reality is (and I think we all knew this going in...) we aren't what you'd call... a hot bunch of guys. So this is how the Panel was able to set it out in realistic terms.
One group is really a bunch of guys they would consider "hot" after drinking about 2 beers.
That's pretty good if you think about it. These are post-doctoral graduate students we are talking about here... they probably drink a lot.
So we'll take it. They'll be the "Hot after 2 brews" and they will skate as the Schlitz.
Nelson, Parker, J.Foz, Gregson, DWH, C.Foz, Greg, Elliott, Capraro, Chuck, Roman, Valenti, and Kilroy.
So the other group... well according to the judges... its going to take a few more beers.
The second team will be the guys they would consider "hot" after drinking 4 beers.
Again (just the bloggers opinion) I think this isn't so bad... maybe we're not that bad looking after all. They'll be the "Better after 4" and skate as the Cadavers.
Larry, Hammit, Ken/Mitch, BlakeU, iJosh, Mark B., Matvey, Daley, Stephan, Campbell, and Jasse.
So check out the pics and comments for the teams posted below.... and enjoy.
Special thanks from Management go out to our elite panel of judges... Sara and Miriam. We couldn't have run this sham without you. Thanks for being good sports, and thanks for taking the time to give us a clever comment on every selection.
The 'daveurs appreciate it.
We were also glad to see that you guys looked like you had some fun with it.
Thanks again.
