Rosters for next weeks games.

I've got the Defensemen in bold. Rosters can be manipulated on game night to suit personel.

Here is the plan for next week. I think I have everyone here. As always email me with conflicts/requests/ and most importantly IN/OUT.
Thanks
Jeff

Can you smell the Schlidaveur in the wind?

Can you smell it team? Here are the rosters for Friday night.
Please let me know if you are listed here and CANNOT make the game. Jim, I know you were on the fence but if you come please bring your goalie stuff. It seems I've found our other goalie and he should be there Friday.
Hi Mike...welcome back!

Cadavers(2) vs. Double Runners ...Redemption!

Cadavers Game 2. Hingham 1030p Weds May 23.

4-0 Win!

Yeah baby! Talk about redemption. The night before, the Schlitz, wearing the flying zombies colors (not everyone had yellow), had a pretty awful night against a fast team. Well this game wiped those bad feelings away pretty quick.

Granted our opponent was more suited to our style of play (slow) but I have to say everyone skated hard and fought to the end. This was a nice up and down game against comparable talent (maybe slightly less) and plenty of chances on both sides. Some nice passing and skating by everyone wearing a Zombie sweater. Good job to all. Ok...lets get to the stars of the game....

3rd Star - All 10 skaters. For the zero on the score sheet next to total penalties. Way to play it.
2nd Star- The goal scorers. Dan Gregson, Matvey Nikhamik, Chris Fosdick, and Dan (with hands) Hebert. Nice job one and all.
1st Star- You should know its coming... Lizzy DeFlurin. Nice shutout. Lizzy made some excellent stops, in traffic, one on one, and screens. Great job. What a turnaround. We hung poor Lizzy out to dry the night before (letting up 6) and she comes right back the next night strong and pitches the zero. Way to go babe. Thanks.

Overheard in the parking lot: "I'm so old, I remember when girls used to make clothes out of pull tab rings."
Beerman Kudos: Greg James. Bud 16oz bottles on ice. Nicely done...with a touch of class.

Schlitz(2) vs .CH Terriers ...doin' the dog.

Schlitz Game 2 Hingham 10pm Tuesday May 22.
6-0 Loss. (... it could have been more)
Yep. You can use whatever canine analogy or phrase you'd like.
Doin' the Dog.
Screwing the Pooch.
Beaten like dogs.
You name it. It applies.
No stars for this game.
The Ch Terriers brought it. They have some spiffy skaters and they went hard at us most of the night. Until we were broken...like dogs. Sorry I couldn't resist. We did get a Coon award out of it. Larry was booted about 4 mins into the game after some choice phrasing for one of the girls on the Terriers. (that makes her a bitch...right?). Anyway the ref didn't seem to think that was cool so he gave Larry an early shower. We went from 10 skaters to 9 and really it was all down hill from there. To be fair, we were already down a goal or two, and I've never seen someone ejected (and suspended) for foul language to another player.
Mike Campbell was able to squeeze in a couple of stints in the penalty box (just so Larry doesn't jump out to a Campbell award lead too soon) and other than that there was no other stats to report.
Lets remember to keep our cool, watch our mouths, and play with sportsmanship. I felt the frustration too and kudos to Mike Hammitt for not taking my suggestions in the waning seconds of the game. That wouldn't have been right. We got housed by a good squad. Sometimes you have to take your lumps.
More Kudos to Hammitt and Larry for bringing a few cold ones for the 4th period.
Even more Kudos to Hammitt, iJosh, and Campbell for bringing pucks. Thanks guys.

Overheard in the parking lot: " I sat next to Dave's wife Jen at Larry's wedding....actually she sat on my lap."

Email of the game: Paul Laubenstein. NESHL Commissioner. Regarding Larry's comments.

The team has needs.

Ok Team. This is a formal request. The bag of pucks I traded for the new guy Greg James is coming back to bite me in the ass. Much like the Bronson Arroyo deal...the club is suffering from my shortsightedness as GM. So...

We need pucks. I have two puck carriers...but barely enough for one bag. So check around the garage...bottom of your bag...trunk of your car...whatever. Try to bring some pucks to the next game.

Also....who has the other set of water bottles? Let me know if you see me this week...otherwise send an email.

Oh Yes....and a Beerman for tonight....and tomorrow night. Volunteers should email me.

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

One game in the books for each squad.

Game 1 for the Cadavers.
Monday May 7th 7:10pm Quincy vs. The Generals.

6-2 Win!

A nice way to open the season. Backed by star goalie Lizzy, the Red and Black of the skating zombies worked their way to a nice opening game victory in Quincy. An even ten skaters for an early game, featuring several of the new "acquisitions". Welcome to Greg James, Jim Sullivan, Matt Elliott, and Kevin Manning. Kevin makes his return to our ranks after a multi-year absence and turned in a great game at the point lending some much needed stability at the position. Matt opened the season with a first period goal (asst. to Dan H.)to get us going. Nice work from everyone, including the fourth period which was well represented, much to Kevin's satisfaction. "Now this is more like it..." he said gazing into the almost empty cooler at his feet where the 30pack had just recently disappeared.
Ok lets give out some game stars.
1st Star- Jim Sullivan. The new guy scores 2 goals and takes our only penalty of the game, clearly gunning for Larry's spot at the top of the leaderboards. He also had a stellar record with face offs winning almost every one.
2nd Star- Pete Capraro. Pete also turns in a 2 goal perfomance and was seen flying around the offensive zone with his linemates the Fosdick brothers. Nice combination. Great job Pete.
3rd Star- Lizzy. Just because she played great and I can give her the star if I feel like it.
Honorable mentions:
Matt Elliot- Goal and an assist.
Chris Fosdick- Goal and an assist.
Jeff Fosdick- 2 assists.
Dan Gregson- 2 assists.
Point of interest:
This could go down as the night that we lost the " 'coon of shame ". Campbell took it out of his bag " 'cause I can't take it anymore" and we think it may be still be haning in that locker room. More on this as the story develops.

Game 1 for the Schlitz.
Monday May 14th 8;10pm Quincy vs. The Generals

2-0 Win!

Another nice performance to get things going. Started with 9 skaters due to several drop outs but ended up with 10 thanks to the triumphant return of one Mike Hammitt! Mike finally checked his email and got himself going and arrived with about 5 mins left in the second period. The other three defensemen were very glad to see him. The other big news was the return of Larry Bell from the DL. It was really great to have him back. He played a solid D and is starting to get his legs back under him. This game also had a bit of a nervewracking beginning as goalie Mike Gash didn't show, and we had to solicit one of the guys from the game before us. Luckily one of them was willing. And speaking of him.....

1st Star- Raj the Canadian goalie. He not only saves us from what would have been a very disappointing forfit, but he pitches a shutout. I don't think he was tested too often but he had everything they did get through covered like a blanket. Thanks dude...where-ever you are.
2nd Star- Dangerous Dave Spenciner. Yeah! Dave's a killer!" Dave gets the game winner in the second period with a nice wrister. Nice work from Dave and the Russians all night.
3rd Star- Jeff Fosdick. Back to playing defense from the stint at forward the week before. Shortly after the arrival of Mike Hammitt as my partner I held the left point and pinched past the two guys trying to clear. A step and a half inside them and I was able to fire one in the top right corner. Hmm. Satisfying.
Honorable mentions:
The second line of Josh, Ken and Deb did a great job all night and had lots of good chances. My favorite being a "spin-a-rama" Kenny shot that reminded me of Cam Neely...well slower...and much shorter...but you know what I mean.
Points of interest:
Only 2 penalties (neither involving Hammitt) was good for us. Larry was whistled for a high-stick in the third period ( he can't help himself, he has to make the score sheet somehow), and that notorious Ken Goldenberg also took a hooking call in the third.
Overheard in the Parking Lot:
"Wait. Let me get this straight. Your job is to kick college age lesbians out of the bathrooms at the "Independent" on Friday and Saturday nights?"
"Well....yeah."

Winter Wrap up.

A good season for the 06-07 Cadavers despite ending up under .500 .
10-14-3 including playoffs with only 1 forfit win. Really we had a rough start, a great streach in the middle, then an even rougher finnish.
We started out shaky losing 3 out of 4 games in both October and November. We seemed to catch our stride though and for December and January we were a nifty 7-2-2, with both ties and one loss coming in the last 4 games of that period. We had 7 total games in January. The end got grizzly going 1-3-1 in February and March then 0-3 in our playoff games.

Some things to think about while looking back, and giving out stars for the season....

We lost Larry Bell on January 22nd to a bad knee injury and he was done for the season. Larry was our points (and penalty) leader and obviously we missed him a lot. The grim facts are that from that night forward we were 2-7-2 and one of the wins a forfit. Larry sat out the last 10 games and still won the scoring (and penalty) title(s). This earns him 1st star of the season. Larry's numbers were 23 pts, 14 goals, 9 assts for a solid 1.353 PPG average. All this in just 17 games played. He also wins the Mike Campbell award for most PIMs with 16 penalties for 26:30mins, and 2 ejections. Way to let 'em know you're there.

Lizzy had a great season for us finishing up with a 3.56 GAA in 16 games. At one point she had a 6 game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) culminating with a beauty of a shutout on Feb 8th against the Dead Rabbits that also marked our last win of the season. Great job Liz you get the 2nd star for the season. The great thing about this season for you was the way you improved from the beginning to end and always turned in gutsy performances week in and week out. Thanks again.

My choice for 3rd star is Dan (with hands) Hebert, in his first full season with our motley crew. Technically he finished third in team scoring (mere % points behind Chris Fosdick) with a line of 15pts, 8 goals, 7 assts and a 0.682 PPG., but he played more games (22 as opposed to 18) and had an overall larger impact on our success as a team (sorry 'bro, you had a good season too...see below). It was always nice to Dan back there on the point settling things down, clearing things out, and often times just making stuff happen on both ends of the ice. Great season Dan thanks for the effort every night.

Honorable mentions go out to:

Mike Gash - Great job all season. Nice 2.10 GAA with a 4-4-2 record. Thanks.
Chris Fosdick - Second in team scoring, 15 pts, 5 goals, 10 assts, 0.833 PPG. Could have had about 8 more goals...but thats why we play the games. Good job.
Matt Kilroy - Our franchise GM, leader in all things organizational, only plays in 8 games and scores 8 points for a very productive 1.00 PPG average. Thanks for everything Matt.

Great job everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to post the complete season stats for you to peruse on your own. No awarding of the Racoon of Shame for the season, we all live with him just a little for the way we played down the stretch. This was a fun season and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to the Summer Schlidavers coming up soon.
Thanks for reading.
