Cadavers claw their way to a win against the hated Blues!

Cadavers(16) vs Blues
Monday August 20
Canton 8:20pm
2-1 Win!!!
Wow. Sounded like a barn burner, a hard fought, hard skated win for the Zombies over those guys in Blue we know so well. Haven't seen much of the Blues this summer but we may see more of them come playoff time. This game had the playoff kind of feel being a 1 difference or tie all the way. OEJ had a very solid night in net turning away almost everything and keeping the zombies within clutching distance. Thirteen skaters for a full compliment (Zombie Pride!) and everyone hustled all night. Great job to all skaters.
The game was a tight affair with the teams going right at each other and the Blues striking first in the opening frame. The second period was riddled with penalties and one observer felt like the Cads were on the PK the whole period. Penalties were called on Pete Capraro(2), Matvey, Campbell, Jasse and Pounds (at least 1 each). Sounds like too many to me.
Here is a quote: "It was a chippy, tough, hard-fought battle that had the Zombies playing 2 very different games:Periods 1 & 2 was a seemingly endless parade to the penalty box. To demonstrate the edge that was played with all game, 2 periannial Lady Byng candidates, Jasse & Pounds found themselves sitting in the sin bin feeling shame for 2 separate roughing penalties. Pounds' was a two-fold retaliation: in defense of an ambush on Campbell and the fact that a hacking Blue went after 'an old man's ankles'."
Well, the power of the skating dead carried the 'davuers through and they were able to draw even early in the third period on a strike from Matt Elliott (DWH assist).
A few more great saves by OEJ and the Zombies were able to put this one away with about 2 minutes remaining on a spectacular Roman to Mike Jasse bid that found the promised land. A couple more minutes of clock kill and the Zombies were able to close out the regular season with a terrific last minute win over a good (and rival) opponent. Big kudos to every one of the 13 (+OEJ) that played. Way to finnish up.
Here is another take on the 3rd period from a skater: "[in the third] We turned it up and started coming at them in waves. Finally about 8 minutes remaining, Magical Matt Elliot took a wrister from a seemingly impossible angle on the right side and beat their keeper high on the stick side. Turned out it was a deflection off of their D but they don't ask how, they only ask how many.We just kept it up with terrific contributions and short, strong, clean shifts from everyone in red. Then with 2 minutes left, at the end of a shift and nearly gassed, Roman beat 3 Blues to the puck, and from his knees, turned and fired a perfect tape to tape pass to the slot where Jasse slammed home a one timer via the five hole.We played stellar team D for the remaining 120 tics and got out of there with a well deserved come from behind victory."
We'll address one more point of interest before we get to the good stuff.
Here is another quote from a skater last night about the game in general.
"Once again, we went without pucks, water bottles and a beer man. We made do, but we look sloppy when that happens. Gotta look like we've done this once or twice before. The blog or the roster needs a beerman assignment. It's not that hard. We make sure we have a goalie and a beerman. Everyone likes to drink it, but only a few of us ever bring it. The negativity around the beerman on this team sucks. It makes the best team in the world suck. Sorry. Here endeth the contribution."
Wow. The blogger would like to apologize (again) on behalf of management for the absence of pucks and water. We'll try to be better about the beerman thing too... but lets be honest... if you know you want beer, and you want to be sure its handled... bring some. Not everyone drinks and it is hard to tap the same few guys for suds each week. Sorry. The blogger would also like to know where the cans of BudLight came from that are obvious in the photos of the 4th period below. Hmmmm.
Heres one more take on the extras: "Honerable Mentions- Truly a solid game by all but particularly well played by George, Sully and Bearded Dan, who looks to getting his legs back.Beer men- a little weak but the food made up for it. Campbell and Jasse each brought a handful of brews."
Ok Game Stars...
3rd Star: On a quote from Mike C: "Greg James - Steady D all night. Saved my ass a few times. Kind of par for the course, except he spent the weekend in Toronto staying up till 4 AM playing poker at a Bachelor party, only to fly home Monday morning, work all day, and then play with us. Good team player!" I'll say... way to go Greg.
2nd Star: Doctor Michael Jasse. On a feed from Roman Kurin, Jasse popped in the game winner with about 2 minutes left in the game. Here is a quote from a player on the scene: "Jasse has a sweet goal from an even sweeter pass from the corner from Roman who was on his knees.....Like a Hull and Oates one timer. The Blue team was not happy about that." We have to get this guy to give up the traveling life so we can get his offensive production all the time. Great job Mike!
1st Star: Miran James! Are you bleeping kidding me? Twice now this Goddess of Culinary Delight has brought seriously good chow to games and the blogger has had NONE! Arrrrg! No Fair! By all accounts Miran's goodies were first rate... and all the sweeter after a win. Here's another quote from a participant. "Miran should get first star for Eel Sushi, Fried Rice and Bourbon Chicken, Cranberry Coconut Pound Cake, and Chocalte frosted brownies. There will be NO debate about First Star"
Ok I agree.
Overheard in the locker room 1:
"Pete (who had a few penaliteis) mentioned that he graduated from the Mike Campbell school of Penalties.
Mike responded, "Your just a freshman." He then added, "Hammit is tenured." "
Overheard in the locker room 2:
Scott: "I can't stand that. Checking, Tripping, Slashing - all that stuff's fair game, but I hate it when they whack at your ankle. There's no need to be whacking at old men's ankles. You can get hurt."
DJ: "You should play in the girls leagues! That's all they do."
Scott: "Well, girls are dirty and immoral. Everyone knows that."
Referenced in several emails: "Dose cauck-suckaas!"
Blogger Honors: Mike Campbell, Matt Elliott, Dan Gregson, Mike Jasse. Thanks!
Fourth Period Honors..... and the blogger salivates....
