Schlitz mowed down by Red Army

Schlitz (12) vs Sitniks
Monday July 28th
Quincy 10:30pm

9-4 loss.

Man the blogger was sorry he chose the early game when he realized that the Sitniks were really Roman Kurin's other team. That's right friends we were playing one of our own with his Russian friends, aptly referred to as Red Army by iJosh.

Speaking of which I'm turning it directly over to him for the allways quality guest blog on this one. Lets see how the story went.
Here's iJosh:

"Unfortunately this story does not have a happy ending. Team Schlitz had the ability to stay with the Sitniks, but was unable to do so. The game started with a lineup of 10 people who all made their first scheduled shift despite more construction traffic on 93. The lines would wind up as:
Defense: Hammitt and Capraro; and the two Dans
Offense: Jim Sullivan would center Mitch and Matt Elliott
iJosh would center Parker and Chuck

The first two shifts it looked like this would be a good game throughout. A few chances for each team. The Sitniks were slightly better skaters, but the Cans thought that they could compete with physical play and grit. Into the zone Schlitz went, iJosh took a shot which rung off the post which rebounded out to Pete on the point. Pete would wrist one onto the post as well and Sitnik would gather the puck and take it the other way, but Capraro would be called off for interference. Play would continue like this until the Sitniks would put up two quick goals including one just at the end of Pete's penalty.
This would be followed a few minutes later, by Dan Gregson who would get one from the point courtesy of a pass from Chuck. However the Sitniks would respond with another one past Lizzie.
Into the 2nd period things would continue to get worse for the Golden Schlitz. Two more goals from our worthy opponents put us down 5-1.
Capraro would be called again for a penalty as he made a great play diving and poking the puck away from a streaking Sputnik (or Sitnik, whatever) cleanly before the offensive man fell. But the ref say the play differently and called him off. The 2nd would be highlighted by Hammitt putting his signature play on Roman who would find himself staring up at big Mike from the ice.

Now the third. the Cans were upset with themselves and their sloppy play. So they tried to salvage the game and do some damage. Early in the third Dan Gregson would get his second goal from the point. This time on a pass from DWH. The Sitniks would again respond. This time a player would be all alone in front of the net as he faked right, spun around and netted the puck on his backhand around Lizzie. Actually a little nice, in one guest blogger's opinion if not a bit showy. But then he jumped and screams and dove onto the ice as if he just won the Stanley Cup, Bobby Orr style. This prompted Lizzie's ever supportive father to start yelling from the stands. Parker would give the guy an earful throughout the rest of the shift too. Too bad Hammitt didn't get involved.....I'm kidding.
Speaking of Hammitt he would go for a hook in the defensive zone, an unHammitt like play since it was a desperation penalty as opposed to the ones that make the opposing player look like a Sega Hockey player squirming and bleeding from the head on the ice. He would have one of those penalties shortly thereafter. That made the world a bit more normal again. Schlitz would respond as Dan with Hands would get an unassisted goal to bring the deficit to 6-3 and then give a perfect feed to Parker, who deserves major kudos for making a game no one expected him to play, who tipped it past the goalie. Now the score 6-4 and momentum going in the Can's direction. But alas that momentum would end quickly as the following would happen...The Sitniks would score 3 more goals to bring the total to 9-4. DWH would score again, unassisted. But that would be it for us as the Sitniks would net one more for good measure as Hammitt essentially gave the puck to them just in front of the net where it was tipped past Lizzie.
The game was marred with just bad passing and decisions. Beyond that this could have been a game. Maybe next time."

Alas... not what we were looking for but thats how it goes sometimes. Now a word from our Communist bretheren on the other side. This the official "Kremlin" version.
Roman (traitorous commie bastard) chimes in...
Hey Man, firstly the final score was 10-5 Sitniks which at the end didnt make me feel good at all. I thought it would be fun to play in the game like this but the more goals Sitniks scored the less thrilled i was. A little bit of history, Sitniks is my other team which consists of my russian friends + 1 american dude who is very good. So at the start of the game there was a concern that beercans are not going to have enough people so I offered to play but in the end everything was fine. 10 people for schlitz and 9 people for sitniks.
This time around I was playing D in the three men rotation for Sitniks. Warm up was all fun and games with schlitz poking fun at me for being on the other side and Sitniks being concerned if I will turn on them at the most opportune time. I promised i wouldn't. I did expect a rough game from schlitz(Hammitt) and we got exactly that, all people talked about in our locker room after the game is number 55 running rough house against us. I expected it and didnt mind it, I guess it was a revelation to other people on the team :). He got me real good in the second frame on the blue line, nice open ice check that sent me on my ass.
In any case game started well for Sitniks, we were up 2-0 after 10 min of the game or so but the game was pretty even, even though goals were only going in one direction. I remember schlitz hitting the post couple of times. Schlitz did score and it was 2-1, but then Sitniks answered and I think it was 3-1 after the first. Then floodgates opened and it was 6-1 after second i think.

Schlitz mounted a comeback and scored 3 goals and it was 6-4, but that was that. 10-5Sitniks did a good job containing Schlitz forwards but on the other side of the rink things didnt look so good. The amount of odd man rushes on Lizzy was unbelievable, there was an extraodinary amount of giveaways by schlitz defense. just calling it as i see it."

Alright... as with anything that comes out from behind the Iron Curtain... we'll just take that all with a grain of salt. Seems to be a discrepancy with the final score... I'm taking iJosh's numbers. Thanks for chiming in Roman... and don't sweat it... we arent the type to hold a grudge... maybe.
Here is a quick note from Mike Hammitt to round out the guestblogs on this one:
"Roman and I had a nice collision at the blue line, I think he was going after me! I took down a couple other Russians and their one American traitor too. I thought Lizzy played great, even in the loss. And I thought the D was great with the exception of me. Capraro played a sold D and the two Dans, I think, scored all of our goals."
Great work one and all... not so much with the game but you know what I mean.
No Game Stars.

Roman you and I agree on the score. Actually Foz calculated wrong. I said the total was 9-4 and then each team scored one more time. So it was a 10-5 game.
