Another fun night at Umass, this time Schlidaveur style. No question there was a good deal of Red Sox-itis that made the rosters for this one particulary light. We were fortunate to end up with 8 skaters a side, and a pretty even match. Unfortunatly we were short a starting goalie, given that Jim Sullivan bailed the afternoon of the game and this forced Ultimate Team Player Nelson Sharfman into the goalie equipment and between the pipes for the skating dead. This was also facilitated by Madd Matt bringing the equipment to Nelson's house so he could use it. Thanks to both of you guys for coming up big. It would have been a real drag to not have a goalie at all for one of the teams.

A quick update on Lizzy while we are talking about goalies... According to Kevin Parker (another guy returning off the DL) when he saw her recently she had a huge leg brace/cast thingy on her leg and was looking none to happy about it. Sounds like our lass will be down for a while. Boy, between that and Matt's losing battle with the table saw, we are having a tough time keeping netminders in good working order these days.

At least OEJ keeps ticking along like the machine that he is, which brings me back to last night's game.

The Suds won the first Schlidaveur of the year behind OEJ's solid netminding and some timely offense. Nelson played very well for the Red keeping the game very competitve and scoreless for almost half the game.

The lineups looked like this.

For the Schlitz, Jeff Fosdick, Mike Daley, and newcomer Mark Valenti played D, while Chris Fosdick, Kevin Parker, Ken Goldenberg, Roman Kurin, and Matvey Nikhamik manned the offense.

For the Cadavers, Dan (DWH) Hebert, George Moorachian, and Dan Gregson worked the blue line in front of Nelson, and Larry Bell, Scott Pounds, Matt Elliot, Josh Greenstein, and Mike Hammitt played up for the Zombies.

Scoring got underway in the second period when Rookie Mark Valenti took a turnover and turned it into a nice slapshot finish for the first lead.

This was answered shortly after by Mike Hammitt who took a feed from Larry and shot a laserbeam wrister past OEJ to tie the game up. A really nice shot by the big man, who should definitley take them more often.

Before the end of the second period Roman put the Suds ahead on a rebound and pass from Ken Goldenberg. In the third period Kevin Parker added some insurance with help from Matvey and the Suds were able to put this one away.

All this while those dirty Zombies Larry and Hammitt Patorolled the ice looking for some Suds to squash. Despite his best efforts Ham was unable to get the Zebra's attention but Larry wasn't as lucky as he was pulled for a nice check on the backboards of Jeff.

The Zombies showed considerable pride and really forced the issue as the game wound down with good play from George (who had the only other penalty) and DWH . They even pulled Nelson but were unable to get anything going.
Good game for all who came. If you didn't come... shame on you, it was a fun night. Now you all have a chance to do it again when we rematch next Monday at the same time and place.

Fourth Period Kudos to Scott Pounds (a certified purveyor of the High Life) and Larry Bell for bringing beers. No spread or grill... but we made do with our meager surroundings.

Game Stars.

3rd Star: I'm going to go with Mike Hammitt. No penalties and a really terrific shot that beat OEJ. Good work dude, you are not easy to play against.

2nd Star: Just for being the guy he is and once again showing how a teammate and a leader gets it done. Nelson Sharfman for filling in quite abley in the Zombie net. On short notice even.

1st Star: We'll do a conglomeration on this one... mostly because I can't decide. How about the Goal Scorers for the Schlitz. Mark Valenti, Roman Kurin, and Kevin Parker. Another nice addition to our ragged band in Mark V, and a nice return to form for Kevin Parker who had been on the DL with a heart.... um, yeah... a heart.

Gratuitous Unattributed Quote: "Don't quote me in the blog or anything... but I think Nelson was the best goalie on the ice tonight." ....wow.

Schedule, Updates, Miscellaney

Here we have the schedule so far with the games we've played and the games to come through the end of November. Click on the image to see it full size (and legible).

I'll wait to do stats until each team has played at least 6 games. There are no real big stories yet, numbers wise, anyhow.

Late word here at Corporate HQ is that Lizzy is ok, doing fine, but a little banged up. This will keep her out of the Monday Schlidaveur regardless, so management is scrambling to find a replacement. We all know Madd Matt is now unavailable to fill in right at the moment (more on that below...) so we may have to go "outside the organization".

Matt has sent and email regarding our options for the game that night in relation to our friends the Red Sox and thier impending Championship. Please respond as soon as you can.

Speaking of Madd Matt... he's doing fine also and seems to be healing up well. He is still mourning the potential loss of his bright future as an XBox superstar gamer and Rod Hockey World Champion, but is keeping his spirits high. To quote Matt....

"If the drummer from Def Leppard can do it... I can too." I have a feeling we'll be seeing him on the ice in no time. Good luck Matt....er Stumpy... er Frodo... Twiddles... Shorty... hmmm nothing seems to fit quite yet.

Remember team... Matt's gift to us through his misfortune is a very important lesson. Take your time with power tools or anything dangerous you might do. It pays to be extra careful.

The House of Horrors Strikes Again!

0-1 Forfit Loss

It is just not going well for the Zombies at the House of Horror known as UMass. By all accounts that have come in from the hearty souls who braved another stellar UMass start time (on a World Series Game Night no less) the Zombies looked overmatched from the start. By Nelson's "No-Face Shield" axiom... the skating dead had every resemblence to that hitch-hiker checking into the Bates Motel. It wasn't going to be pretty.

Things went from looking bad to getting ugly in about 7 minutes. The SLJ (whatever that means) had scored once and then there was a collision in front of the Cads net. Lizzy was run into hard by a girl on the other team and had to leave the game with a knee injury.

Here is one good synopsis from one of the Cads:

"(The) Story if you haven't heard it yet is pretty nasty. During warm-ups, Nelson did his typical "count the no shields/half-shields" and the ringer expectations were pretty high. Second shift they were out in force and scored. On the (I think) next shift, some girl on their team pretty much ran Lizzy (I'll let others comment on this) and Lizzy REALLY hurt her knee. She was helped off the ice mostly on her own power and leaving the rink with her parents was planning to go to the hospital.

Since there was no game after us, the refs/scorekeeper left and we scrimmaged with the other team. They were (IMO) no fun to play against in that their ringers pretty much decided to "go nuts" and played like the game meant something. Whatever.
Both Nelson and Josh brought radios, so the bench had plenty of Sox coverage (though the scorekeeper showed us up by bringing a TV).
Ugly. Hope Lizzy is doing ok. "

We'll have to collectively "take down that number" and keep this all in mind the next time SLJ shows up on the schedule.

No word yet here at Corporate HQ about Lizzy's condition or her availablility for next week.

Keep in mind we have a Schlidaveur on Monday night.... same crappy rink... same crappy time.

2-1 Win!

Sounds like this was a good one. The noble Suds went into the U-(m)Ass House of Horrors and came away with a huge first win of the season against the team they played in the championship game just a couple of weeks ago. There was definilty some roster issues with the 'Goats as they didn't seem to have as many of their no-faceshield guys... could have something to do with the Sox Game or the fact that this game was at such a desirous place and time...cough cough. That made for a much better matchup for the Gold which was nice. So the Suds win to improve to 1-2-0 with the Cads at 1-2-1 just a measly one point ahead.
The D was manned very well (by all reports) by Mike Daley and Matt Elliott, and George Morachian and Stephan Wennik. Mike OEJ Gash was in the pipes again.
The forward lines broke down into...
The Russian Line: Roman Kurin, Matvey Nihkamik and Dan Gregson (not Russian).
The Geek Line: (self proclaimed...) Nelson Sharfman, Deb Dalessio, and Ken Goldenberg.
Roman was first to put the Gold on top on a feed from Matvey (and possilby a defensemen...?) and the Schlitz were out in front. Its unclear when but the 'Goats came back to tie it up. Most accounts speak of OEJ making great saves all along during the game... this should come as a surprise to no-one... they guy has been awesome.
The Gold went ahead for good on a goal by Dan Gregson, who put away (poked home) the rebound from a George slapshot from the point that made it all the way through. Here is a first hand account:

"George unleashed a slapper that got through and started bouncing on a goal line, Dan was trying to be unslefish at first and have George get the goal, but then decided to poke it in just to make sure."

That would be how the game went to the finnish with the Golden Suds picking up their first official win of the season. Also important to note... if you can believe it... NO PENALTIES. Great job to everyone who showed up last night and made it happen. Here is one more first hand account of how things went down the stretch.

"Our defense was solid, dont remember any defensive breakdowns to speak off. George - Stefan pairing was especially fantastic. Last couple of minutes were pretty nerve racking, they pulled a goalie and put a lot of pressure on OEJ, but as usual he saved our bacon. So yeah really solid game from everybody, one of the better efforts this season, might be because of the lack of talent and a short bench on the other team."

Gamestars

3rd Star: Both defensive pairings. In particular Matt Elliott making his Schlitz debut at D...

2nd Star: OEJ. Not a shutout... but no question he's the guy that helps us win, especially when he plays like last night. By the way... Mike has a 1.50 GAA through his first 4 games.

1st Star: I'm going to go with Roman Kurin. A goal and an assist and all around good play. Its been while since Roman got some love in the blog... so here you have it. Great work.

The schedule has come out for the next month or so... at least through the end of November. Expect an email from Matt in the very near future regarding the next couple of games. There is only 1 game next week then followed by 2 weeks in a row of Monday night Schlidaveurs. Woo hoo. I'll post the schedule (with game results so far) over the weekend or on Monday.

Zombies vs. Deep Freeze another UMass bummer.

7-5 Loss.



A few last minute dropouts left the Cads a little short handed last night at our new favorite home for fun and hockey (U-Ass) against a new team the Deep Freeze. Luckily thanks to cagey vet Nelson Sharfman who responded to a last minute call up the Zombies were able to field 9 skaters and had a go at the Freeze for the first time.
This game also marked the return of Lizzy DeFlurin in net. Not a moment too soon given that it will probably be a long time before CEO Frodo Kilroy makes it back in between the pipes. I'm sure he's willing... its just going to take some time. More on Matt later....
The Cads were fortunate to have a strong troica on D that worked hard and really made a difference all night. Mike Campbell, DWH, and Greg James all played great and honestly kept us in the game all night long.
The game started fast and the Cads soon found out that while the Freeze are new to our division, and had plenty of mediocre players... they clearly had some very good players as well. Between the two best of them (#16 and the guy with BC socks) the Freeze were up 2-0 about 5 minutes into the first. This score held for the rest of the period as the Zombies slowly got thier feet underneath them. Slowly the dead made thier move (what other way would they..?) to stay with the Fearsome Freeze.
The forward breakdown was as follows. Nelson led the first group along with Scott Pounds and iJosh. The second group was Jeff Fosdick with Dr. Jasse on the left and newbie Blake Underhill on the right side.
The Red got on the board just seconds into the second period when Jeff Fosdick took the faceoff from center ice and proceeded through the winger, both defensemen and in for a break away that he buried near side. As exciting as this was it wasn't long before the talent on the Freeze took that tally back by putting another 2 past Lizzy just minutes later.
The Zombies weren't done though and there was definitly some Zombie Pride in the wheezing faces on the bench. Lizzy made some really good stops in this period to keep us close and iJosh (from DWH) brought us back within one with a goal from in front. This was followed not more than a minute later by a wicked tally from Scott Pounds (and by wicked I mean a devistating wrister that he roofed over the keeper) that came from iJosh and (always working) Nelson Sharfman. Again the Red was within one... but it wouldn't last. The Freeze managed one more before the end of the second and we went to the 3rd down 5-3.
The Freeze didn't let up and had potted another 2 goals by about the 7 minute mark of the third (one during a power play...2 penalties on the night... both Campbell) and things were looking grizzly until Jeff Fosdick managed to poke home a Scott Pounds rebound for his second of the game, and kept the Skating dead in it a little. The final tally came from defenseman Greg James who wisely caught the keeper napping with a laser beam slapshot from almost the red line.
That was how it ended 7-5 and most of the Zombies just happy to make it through the game.
No Game Stars on this one... but really it could have been much worse.
Some things to note on the upbeat side of things.
* Blake Underhill played well while he is still getting his feet wet. He hung in there all night taking each shift with his line and getting to the puck when he could. Keep up the good work.
* Scott Pounds and iJosh both finished with a goal and an assist each and also played hard.
* Jeff Fosdick (despite feeling like he was going to die...) had a solid game with 2 goals (and really should have had 2 others...) and 1 assist... just to give Larry a little goose in the points standings.
* Nice to have Lizzy back.

Ok. Seriously folks all the 'Daveurs send out thier thoughts and concern for our fearless leader Matt Frodo (of the nine fingers....) Kilroy who had a very unfortunate run in with his TABLE SAW on Monday morning. Now Matty is ok... his left thumb (glove side!) won't ever be the same... but we all have an object lesson to go forward with. Feel better Matt we all look forward to getting you healed up and back on the ice with the rest of us slouches.

I dont know if there will be any pucks or water bottles so bring some if you are going.
Some guys have had luck turning right after the rink, another quick right and there is a small semi-circle lot on the left that is not guarded. I dropped my stuff at the door and parked over there last night and it worked fine. Not a garuntee for a spot though. Just an option if you are short 6 bucks.

Zombies Break Winless Streak! Shutout win over Lobsters!

2-0 Win!

A close game, a good roster, and just enough Zombie Pride to get us through. A tight game against a fully foritfied Lobsters crew that played well. They might have had 3+ lines, but they have picked up some talent over the years. The Lobsters came after us, and thankfully, the Red held firm.
Backstopped by the man.... Dr. Zero... O.E.J. the Red got off to an early lead when Larry Bell scored a few minutes into the first period on an assist by constantly working hard Nelson Sharfman. This slim lead would have to hold for a long time as there was no further scoring until late in the third period.

The game went back and forth, the Lobsters continued to take it to the Zombies shift after shift as seemingly the Zombies legs wore thin. It wasn't long into the second period that the Red made the first of many trips to the penalty box.

Led by newcomer (and did I mention solid player) Mike Daley was called for a hold. The Red killed that penalty off smartly but it wasn't long before we had more trouble. Larry made two trips to the sin bin later in the period... both PKs were sucessful.

So into the third we went 1-0 lead hanging precariously in the balance. The trips to the box didn't stop as George Moorachian, then Roman Kurin, and then Matvey Nihkamik all made special visits to the Zebra funbox.

The Zombie Pride was showing here though as we killed off each successive penalty and continued to limit the chances on OEJ, who was naturally solid when he needed to be. George's partner Mike Campbell also played strong (and not from the box... ) down the stretch.

The forwards finally turned the momentum back on the Lobsters as Chris Fosdick scored on a nice hard work play deep, late in the third again with Nelson on the helper. Finaly some insurance and the Red were able to put this one away.
Of course Larry made one more trip to the box ( on a delay of game.... falling on the puck like a ... what was it... oh yes... "legless turtle") to earn his ejection during the final minute of play.

Good showing from the skating dead. Everyone played well...even if our effort flagged at times during the game. Good job. Nice to get the first W.

Game Stars.

3rd Star: Tie. Larry Bell for the goal to put us up early... and Chris Fosdick for the goal to seal it. Keep up the good work guys... we'll need to see more of that "finishing touch".

2nd Star: Nelson Sharfman. The "Cagey Vet" continues to put on a clinic every week about how to work hard and continue to make scoring chances. Great work as always.

1st Star: No doubt with that 0 next to the opponents score. Mike Gash... OEJ. This was not as "challenging" a shutout for him, but hey they all look the same on the scoresheet. Great job Mike, being there when we needed it.

9-1 loss.

Oh Boy.

I'd like to say that this one was fun, or that it was competitive, or that we played well, or that we worked hard 'til the end.... but I can't. The Cads got smoked by a veteran Rangers team that had a few snipers (slow... but niffty) and a few driven women (nevermind) and otherwise a mediocre blend of talent. Actually the game was competitve for 2 periods. This was in no small part to the contribution of Madd Matt Kilroy taking his second start of the season (and the week) between the pipes.

Matt was fabulous in his first game with real goalie skates and made a bunch of awesome stops in the first period. He stopped 'em in traffic and from in close, he was everywhere poking the puck away or just covering up when it was needed. The first period was a 0-0 draw. The skating dead were holding thier own, even as the Ranger's veterans were filtering onto the bench during the first 10 minutes of the game. The Zombies were getting chances and holding together pretty well.

Then came our dreaded 2nd period letdown. I'm going to have to study this but it seems to me that we've been scored on inside the first 3-4 minutes of the second period of like every single game we've played. Well, last night was no exception.

Thanks to a dubious change by the Defense (Jeff F and newcomer Mike Daley) the Rangers had a break and finaly put one past the CEG. (Chief Executive Goalie...). Things began to slide downhill from this point on. The Rangers scored again not long after and then went up 3-0 as they really started to smell the blood in the water.

The forwards couldn't seem to get back into the groove they had in the first period despite the efforts by Larry, Matt Elliot, Mike Jasse, iJosh, Ken, Mark Bates, Nelson, and Matvey.

The Cads got on the board after DWH (Dan Hebert) made a great goal from Nelson and Matvey that pulled the red within two. DWH and his defensive partner Dan Gregson worked hard all night and did all they could to stem the tide. Mike Daley was also tireless and skated well... he's a great new addition.

The third period doesn't really deserve much of a writeup. Suffice to say the Rangers were slobbering all over themselves to rack up the score. One of their snipers... wearing a New England Whalers shirt and looking like a Meth addicted evil twin of Brad Park... kept at it until he had a handfull of well picked goals. Gregson flipping the puck into this guy's grill (no facemask... of course) didn't even slow him down. Kudos to Gregson for the effort, but this guy was out to show us what a washed up, overweight, really ugly, player who once had skills really looks like. We got the picture.

Alas... no wins yet for our beloved Schlidaveurs... (combined 0-3-1) but they will come. Hope none of our fans are holding thier breath.
Three games next week.

Cads Monday (BU 9:30) and Wednesday (UMass 10:30), and Schlitz on Thursday (UMass 10:30). Get your confirmations into the CEG (Matt).

Suds Fall Again. Lose to Tigers 3-2.

3-2 Loss.


The Suds fell again last night, but not without putting up a hell of a fight against the tireless Tigers. On a tough Columbus Day Monday night at UMass the Suds (9 devoted skaters after a few last minute drop outs) the Schlitz gave all they had but just couldn't put the feisty Tigers away. The Game was a good match up for the Suds despite having only 3 Defense men (DWH, Pearlman, and Jeff) and featured Mad Matt Kilroy (hmm... Chairman of the board... Chairman of the Pipes/Crease.... how about CEG... Chief Executive Goalie) in his first start this season between the pipes.
Matt was the real hero of this one. He was originally not scheduled to skate but when he got the message that OEJ couldn't make it, he changed his plans, drove to Foxboro to pick up the goalie equipment, then all the way back in for that lovely start time at our favorite rink. You the man Matty... a true team playa. Dude was solid in net all night. He only let up 3 none of which you really could say were "soft". The first two were guys left alone within 6 feet of the net, and the third was deflected off Jeff's stick as it came in (... the 'Coon is starting to edge closer and closer to Jeff's bag... but can't seem to commit...) and went through. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Matt was solid when he needed to be and kept us in a very tight game.
That being said the Suds had tons of chances in the Kitty's end. Shot after shot banged off their goalie, who was very solid despite giving up so many rebounds. The tale of the night was that the Gold just couldn't finish. The first line of Chris, Larry and Deb regularly worked well together, and Deb had several good takeaways and defensive point covers that were excellent. The second line also played well with Roman, Mike Jasse, and Dr.Pounds.
Chris Fosdick got the Suds off to the right kind of start as he scored (from DWH) a mere 3 minutes into the first period. Things looked good for the Gold, we were getting chances and skating well. The Tigers answered about 10 minutes later as they scored on a scramble in front of Kilroy.
The Tigers then scored twice in the second the first on a bang bang no cover of the guy right on the side... and then the fateful deflection from Jeff's stick later in the period.
You have to give it to the Suds. There was no shortage of Pride and Guts as the Schlitz peppered the Tigers for most of the 3rd period. Larry eventually broke through (unassisted) on a takeaway that involved him circling through the traffic in the offensive zone then finding a home for the puck and the Suds were back within one... but they wouldn't get any closer.
We did have 2 penalties but given the J*ck-off Ref (kind of a Rick Moranis type.. but fat) that loves us... it could have been a lot worse.
Time after time the Gold got chances... but came up short. Hell... we even pulled Matt in the closing minute but the Sudsy Six couldn't make it happen. Good game, hard fought... not the desired result.
So no game stars other than to Matt without whom it would have been a really lost cause.
No real post-game as there was no beer-man (management apologises but reminds you... if you'd like to be sure there is beer... bring some) but there was some nice Book club discussions lead by Billy Pearlman. Thanks.

Overheard in the parking lot: "I can't believe we failed the fourth period..." Dr. Pounds.

2-0 Loss.

Another fabulous night of D-Leauge Hockey at the Pleasure Dome that is... U-Ass Boston. This particular night was enhanced by not only the condition of the ice, which resembled the Southeast X-pressway (think potholes), but by the extra good feeling we all recieved paying $6.00 just to park near the rink. I'm sure there is free parking somewhere over at the J.F.K. Museum but really... who has the energy to carry your hockey stuff a mile and a half? We should have taken it as a sign.

The Suds did show some signs of life as the title defense got underway against our old friends the Spartans (dk green). They had thier regulars, and gave a typical hard working, opportunistic performance. The Guys in Gold got some opportunities early and the game stayed 0-0 into the second period.

Nice solid chances were seen from the second line of Scott Pounds, Matvey Nikhamik and Roman Kurin. Mike Hammitt abley rotated through this line and the first line (who also had some solid chances) of Larry Bell, Matt Elliott and Ken Goldenberg. Some good bids but not enough outlets to open defensement at the point, and never really any consistent presence in the slot.

Things (ie: The Spartans) caught up with us, and our heavy legs, and after the Gold chased them around our own end for what seemed like an entire shift they broke the ice with a goal 5 minutes into the Second. OEJ had been playing very well, turning aside several solid chances but this one was about the 6th rebound and putback so it was kind of inevitable.

The rest of the Second stayed an uphill climb and unfortunately the Suds didn't do much to help thier own cause. About 3 minutes after the goal George Moorachian took a penalty (not much he could do really) but he wouldn't be the last Gold visitor to the box. Mike Campbell (riled that he didn't win his namesake award I'm sure) was next with about 30 sec left in the period. Both situations were killed off well by the Suds and they stared to get a few more chances at the other end.

Alas... halfway through the period Jeff Fosdick was next with a fairly awful too many men call that gave the Spartans yet another Power Play. Managing to kill that one (thanks!) less than three minutes later we send another man to the box, this time Mike Hammitt for a nice open ice take down. As you may know, follower of the blog the penalty killing was not going to hold up forever and the Spartans struck again this time just before the penalty was to expire.

Again they had several chances in a row, and it didn't help that Jeff left his man wide open about 7 feet from Mike and didn't intercept the pass that went right to him and right in the net. That was about it for the Schlitz. George took one more penalty before the night was through and the Spartans kept coming. OEJ did a good job just keeping the score at 2 as the minutes ticked away.

So... no game star love for the Suds on this one, but there were some things worth mentioning.

OEJ: Rock solid game in a losing effort. This game could have looked very different.

Matvey: Made a phenonminal backcheck to save a 2 on 0 scoring chance with about 8 minutes left in the third. By this point nobody had any legs, but Matvey made it back an broke up the play admirabley. Nice effort.

Mike Campbell: Similar story... but Mike's moment came with about 4 min remaining in the first. He came from behind to totally shut down one of thier faster forwards... cleanly I might add. He and his D partner Stephan Wennik played great all night.

Overheard in the locker room:

"You know that guy 6 was ok, but nothing really special... was it just me or did he REALLY STINK?"

"Yeah... he was ripe. I should know, he skated by me about 15 times in the third."


The 'Coon of Shame dropped by to say that during the third period he had some serious thoughts making himself a nice cozy home inside the bags of Jeff Fosdick and Mike Hammitt. He was seen lurking around our "plush" locker-room (and I use that term ... loosely) during the fateful third period when both guys took very ill-timed trips to the sin bin. Jeff for calling for his replacement then staying on the ice to face the play and earning a too many men, and Hammitt for knocking over a Spartan in open ice on our blue line. Be warned gentlemen... The Coon did not officially nest this night... but he thought about it... for a while.

Well, two games at this lovely establishment next week. Monday and Wednesday. Management is none too pleased. Get your availablilty or IN/OUTs into Kilroy so we can set roster.

The season is off an running.... a stumbling 0-1-1 after week 1. Let's try to do better next week.

Zombies kick off Winter Season with a Tie!

Cadavers(1) vs Tigers

Monday October 1

Canton 9:20

3-3 Tie

The skating dead rose from the grave and showed thier Zombie Pride last night to innaugurate the winter campaign of 2007-08. This will be the first time we will run as the two team monster through the longer winter season. It sounded like there was a solid start made last night.

A hearty 10 skaters for a MNF conflict of interest game at our "home" rink Canton. This included 3 newcomers getting off the ground early in their Schlidaver careers. Mark Bates, Mike Daley, and Blake Underhill joined the club and made solid debuts one and all. Good to have you boys aboard. Word has is Blake took a few shots and is feeling it today. Blake did skate a few periods with us over the summer but this was his first full Cadaver experience. Again, welcome guys.

The night started with a bump as the Kitty's scored first, less than two minutes in. The Zombies answered right back a few minutes later when Roman Kurin got the first goal of the season with 7:19 remaining. Assists to Kilroy and Gregson. Then with time running out in the First CEO Madd Matt Kilroy scored with a nice deflection (skate) of a Dan Hebert shot. Intent, kicking, angling, were all discussed postgame but the refs tallied it and the Zombies led 2-1 after one.

Into the second period and things were looking good for the Cads. Here's a first hand account of what happened next: "At 11:38 in the second we score again. Gerg James with a rush from our blue line all alone weaving and turning, right to the net through several defenders and a back hand shot right by him. Nice goal."

Unfortunately the good times (and lead) didn't last the Tigers scored twice in one shift less than four minutes later. The rest of the game played out as a 3-3 tie. By all accounts OEJ had a terrific night and despite being "left out to dry" on more than 1 or 2 occasions, held up the rest of the way. We are used to that kind of performance from Mike... but we shouldn't push our luck.

Great job to everyone who skated and hopefully the Schlitz can get us into the win collumn on Thursday night.

Game stars:

3rd Star: Greg James. A nice end to end rush with a nifty finnish. Plus he brought Miran. Actually.... maybe we could give his game star to her. Well... lets have them share it. Good work, both of you.

2nd Star: With a goal and an assist, its Mad Matt Kilroy. Our fearless leader jumps into the scoring race early with a big night in the first game. Good job Matt.

1st Star: You know it... you see it coming. OEJ. Despite giving up 3 there is no question he kept the Cads in this one and preserved the tie. Great job as always. Thanks.
