Quick check of the leaderboard...not just for 'ho's anymore.

Ok ok... I just couldn't resist. Next time I'll have to photoshop the image so it says "Stat Whores" and I'll put Larry's face over the chick with the big... ah... guns.

Here you go a quick update of our scoring (and penalty) leaderboard, for all you eager "stat whores"(not just Larry). We have only 3 regular season games remaining then 6 in the playoffs (3 for each squad) maybe more if one or both teams advance.

The race is tightening, no question about it.

Larry holds a 3 point lead over Kevin Parker with Jim Sullivan just one behind him. This is the most competition Larry has had for the scoring title in quite some time. Keep in mind he was coming off a rough injury the whole first half of this season. He's made quite a run.

Nice to have some of the new guys (soon to be vets) in the top ten. The aforementioned KP, JS, and Matt Elliott. Rounded out by some familiar faces from the greybeard side of things, with the likes of Nelson Sharfman, Dangerous Dave, Mike Jasse, Chris Fosdick, and Matvey Nihkamik, making veteran contributions every week. Excellent work by all of you.

I'll let the Penalty minutes speak for themselves... but you know... that race is pretty close too. It will only take one blowup and ejection to push any of those guys lurking around second place to jump right up to the lead. We'll see how it plays out.

If you haven't responded to Matt about tomorrow....get on it. He's trying to put together a roster. Nice to see so many people responding positively to the winter season. This would be really fun to do for the winter with both teams. My blogsense is tingling.

Let me know if there are any glaring mistakes or anything / anyone I've left out. It happens so speak up if you see something that doesn't look quite right. I'm only one guy... and I do have to do some work sometimes.

Welcome to the Hockey Blog!

Team, friends, opponents, and random wanderers of the digital landscape... Welcome.

In these humble pages do I offer the game stories, mundane facts, stats, and proud tales of our Beer League Hockey teams the Cadavers and the Schlitz.

Can you say something is just a hobby if you do it once (or twice) a week for as long as you can remember? I don't know, but I love to play hockey. We've been playing with one incarnation of this team or another for ten years plus now. We play even if the games are late at night, or on a weeknight (they are usually both), and the kids haven't been sleeping great, and you have to be to work early tomorrow morning. We still go play. Its just what we do to play our game.

Our hobby... or what we do every week, sometimes(mostly) late at night in far away places. Then we like to have a cold beverage and talk about it in the parking lot afterward. Because that's a big part of it to... as you will see.

I got to thinking a while back that we should keep stats. You know, some way to give a story line to the season. So many of them had flown by, it was hard to remember all the things that had happened to the team or teams over the years.

Keeping track of the stats and email conversation threads that went on and on told our story in a new way. Which was cool.
Then I discovered blogger.

The Blog is a perfect forum, in my opinion, to tell our story, and the perfect companion "hobby" to my weekly sport hobby. Each week we get a game story and maybe some fun stories about the game. It works great now with the two teams because everyone wants to know how the other squad did.

So this is the story of our teams and our friends. I hope you find pleasure in the telling of our tales. A good game, a hard skate and usually a cold beer afterward. There are few greater things one can do with their time. At least that's what we think.

Please feel free to comment, whomever you are. The more the merrier I say as long as you are polite... or very funny. Visitors, friends, and opponents thoughts are always welcome. I invite you to share what you have to say. Everyone.
