Cats pounce on the Cads...again.

Cadavers (20) vs Tigers
Bavis Ice Arena

Monday Jan 28th

10:20pm

0-2 Loss

Another tight game with the El Tigre. The Cads went to the mat with the Cats last night in Rockland, and once again stared down an opportunity to beat this new rival club. Once again the opportunity slipped by and El Tigre has run his streak to 3-0-3 against us.
All of these games have been close. All of them have featured long periods of 0-0 or tie scores, more than half of the games we have led... every lead more than 1 goal. Yet this team turns it around on us in the third period and beats us, or rallies to tie every time.
Last night was no exception. Running right to formula the teams came out and played to a 0-0 draw after the first two periods.
The first frame, and the first real momentum of the game clearly belonged to the Tigers. They were able to get several quality chances on new fill-in keeper Brian Cleary. Brian has played a pair for us and has really brought some nice game. On no fewer than 3 occasions he kept us in the game singlehandedly... just in the first.
The often scrambling defensive corps in front of him were the pairs of Marc Valenti, Billy Pearlman, and Mike Campbell, Jeff Fosdick.
The Forwards consisted of two solid groups that got some, but not an abundance of chances as the period wore on. Chris Fosdick, Kevin Parker and Scott Pounds were backed by Mike Jasse, Pete Capraro, and Chuck Slate.
The Zombies survived the period and even had a nice penalty kill when Kevin Parker was sent to the box by our large friend with (stretching) stripes.
The Second period saw a near repeat of the first but the Zombies were more in the game neutralizing some of the initial momentum of the Cats. Brian continued to make great saves as things routinely broke down in our zone.
That scrambling led to the gamewinner at the 9:30 mark of the third when the Tigers held it in our zone with good pressure and finally netted one of the many rebounds.
The Zombies kept moving. There was clearly lots of effort from the Dead in Red... it just wasn't enough. More exhausted scrambling during a (second) penalty on Mike Campbell led to another breakdown and they put it out of reach with about 5 minutes left.
Another chance by the wayside. Sometime we are going to get over on these guys. There is a sentiment to assemble a "squad" for our next meeting. The Blogger agrees. These guys are like the new Blues. A team we can run with...that we should be able to beat... but we don't. Credit to them, they've beat us as we've worn down and found a way every time.

No game stars.

Let's get a good turnout for Wednesday night's Schlitz game against the Windsuckers.
Go Zombies.
Go Suds.
