Zobies Taste Sweet Flesh of Victory.

Cadavers (2) vs Deep Freeze (4)
Monday April 14
Canton, 10:20pm

7-2 Win!

The 0-1 Cadavers faced off against the 0-1 Deep Freeze in a playoff elimination game last night in Canton. The Freeze snuck into the playoffs and took a beating from the Tigers in week one, and I think we all know how the Cadavers came to be 0-1 thanks to the brilliance of the Golden Schlitz.
The Zombies had a serious return to form roster wise so there were several different faces than during the game one Schlidaveur. First off Mike Gash returned to the crease... sorry he missed the first game... but stoked cuz he had backstage passes to Def Leppard and Styx... that's pretty cool. Other returning players of note were Mike Campbell and George Moorachian on the blue-line. The forwards remained the same with only Jeff Fosdick replacing Mark Bates up front.
Pre-game Larry was clearly "Pete Carrol Jacked and Pumped" asking everyone in the room if "they were ready?" Larry was clearly feeling the playoff elimination game vibe... and eagerly set out the groupings .
The lines broke down like this.

D1: Campbell, Daley
D2: George, Stephan
O1: Larry, Jasse, Underhill
O2: Jeff, Scott, and Hammitt
O3: iJosh, Ken, Matvey

The Deep Freeze had more players than the last time we played them, but clearly didn't have all the reserves or anyone who rang a bell... so to speak. They were still shorthanded with less than 10 so the Dead in Red looked to make the shifts short and the game pace fast in order to wear them out. Still there were some good chances early from both teams and the Freeze certainly looked like they wanted to get out ahead.
That wouldn't happen as the Red Forecheck Machine got wound up about 5 minutes into period one. iJosh banged home a nice shot (via Stephan and Matvey) to give the Dead a one goal lead. "Keep it up..." was the murmur down the bench as the Zombies liked to see the fruits of their hard work in the Freeze zone.
Of course that means the DF came right back and scored just 30 seconds later on a nice rush from thier lankey defenseman. He slid it right under OEJ for the equalizer as he zipped in front of the net. Head shaking on the Zombie bench. Was this going to be one of those nights?
Nah.
It was a mere minute and a half of playing time that Dr. Mike Jasse put one home on a feed from Larry to take the lead back. The first line was starting to click as chances came a little more often as the period wore on. Jasse would light the lamp again with 4 and a half minutes in the period, again from Larry and the Zombies had a little breathing...err wheezing space.
Thats how the first period would end... with chances mounting and the Zombies hot on the scent of blood... The Second Period was a total grindfest, and both teams trudged on at 3-1 for the entire frame. But it didn't take long into the third for the action to pick up again.
George scored a nice one (from Jasse and Stephan) that once again put the Zombies back in firm control of the game. Chances for the Freeze were fewer, but they occasionally put a hanger out at middle ice just to get an opportunity from time to time. OEJ was solid and sucked up all they had to offer.
The next to light the lamp would be Ken Goldenberg, thanks to a well placed leg that was in front of a nice Matvey Nikhamik shot that found the twine. Later Mike Campbell, after a brief trip to his favorite little private space in every rink, came out with fire (right out of the box) and willed himself a goal that he banged through the down keeper (Scott on the assists).
The DF were cooked/melted at this point and that just left Scott Pounds for the icing on the cake (from George) when he too banged one home from the doorstep.
That would be the end of scoring. Other penalties in the third were Stephan (on a terrible call) and Hammitt (for complaining about the terrible call) but the Red survived both.
Good game for all concerned and now there are us the two of us and the Tigers remaining in the hunt.
Game Stars.
3rd Star: Everyone with 2 points. Scott Pounds (1g, 1a); Larry Bell (2a); Matvey (2a); Stephan (2a). Hell... we'll throw in the single goal scorers Ken Goldenberg, and iJosh as well. Good work gentlemen.

2nd Star: George Moorachain. Part of the Defense that was everywhere. George had a goal and and an assist, but might as well have had a hand in just about everything last night. Again covering great amounts of ice and making opportunities in the other end. Nice Job.

1st Star: Dr. Mike Jasse. Before the game Jasse was heard saying that he needed one or felt like he had one in him. Well folks he came up with two (both from hard working linemate Larry) plus an assist with the first line offense. Way to find the finish Doc... Great Game.

Postgame Honors to Scott Pounds (Miller Highlife), Mike Campbell (Coors Light), and 1st star Mike Jasse (Heineken Mini-Keg) for providing the refreshing Parking Lot beverages.

Overheard in the Parking Lot 1: "We forgot pucks, and water bottles... but three guys brought beer?... Sounds about right."
Overheard in the Parking Lot 2:"What did number nine give you her dick to use for a while?"
