Schlitz teach the Clinic a thing or two...

Schlitz (10) vs Clinic
Tuesday 12/4
UMass 10:30pm
7-1 Win!

Another game where the blogger was not present. Too many of those lately. Here to give a formidable game recap are some of the guys who skated that night to give you an idea of what happened.

Here with a first period recap is iJosh:
1st Period Title: Which Team is the Clinic Team?
After a 1st period goal by Matvey (who doesn't even remember how it went in) the Schlidaveur Team played a brilliantly lackluster period.
Even letting the clinic team tie the game before the period was out.
Score after 1: 1 - 1
Now here's Matvey to show that he does remember how he scored it:
I did score the first goal by stuffing the rebound from Chris's (he said it was him) shot, I just was not completely sure if the goalie managed to get a pad on it or not, and when I skated around the goalie the puck was already on its way out. However, the ref had a clear look and confirmed that it was indeed a goal.
Clinic scored on a breakaway, nice outlet pass from their D to one of the guys hanging out by our blue line, and he went in 1-on-1 with the goalie. Clinic actually had at least couple of D that were playing on a level much higher than the clinic (one may have had college experience and stuff - after talking to some of the guys on their team)...
Clinic goalie was making some saves, but had tough time controlling rebounds.
Nice job boys. Lets move on to the 2nd period.
Here's iJosh again:
2nd Period Title: Drunken Zombie Pride
After calling ourselves out for lackluster performance, we decided to play a little hockey. Roman got his first of two on a backhand that only I and the ref saw go in. It trickled through the five hole and barely got over the line. 2-1 Us. Then Mike (Daley) put one past the goalie followed by a Roman wrister from the right circle that beat the Clinic goalie. 4-1 Us. Then after a save by the clinic goalie the clinic D got caught with the Defenseman with his head down as he pushed the puck ahead of himself only to have me one time it top right corner. 5-1 us. (after 2)
And the 3rd period:
3rd Period Title: Finishing up with class
Two more goals a one by Mike on his own rebound and another -I think - by I think DWH, but I can't remember. Toward the end we were still playing to score, but were no longer taking advantage of the clinic team. Final score 7-1.
...It was cold and late and the usual suspects were not on hand. Therefore we LOST the 4 period as the clinic team drank in the rink and were able to wait us out.
And Matvey's thoughts again:
We won 7-1, but it didn't look like an easy win - probably due to some good D players they had and few "quick-learners" on the Clinic team who played good physical game, skated pretty well and displayed some stickhandling and patience that a lot of clinic players usually don't have.
Even Ken Goldenberg stopped by with some comments:
We seemed to really play down to their level and let up
(even for us) a ton of odd-man rushes. Our goalie was solid other than
perhaps their tying goal in the 1st (clean breakaway from at least center
ice--should have been scored as "defensive indifference" on our part as a
team) You'd have to check the scoresheet for when the goals started
coming, but our offense finally managed to kick-in and we cruised to a 7-1
final. 4th period Chris tried valiantly to get something started but it
was late+cold+UMass and most of the usual 4th period warriors were absent.
Boy its a shame to hear about the 4th period like that... especially after a big night.
Game Stars:
3rd Star: Mike Daley. Two goals and some more great all around play.
2nd Star: Roman Kurin. The Mad Russian finds the scoring touch with 2 goals and 2 assists. Nice going Roman!

1st Star: iJosh. A goal and 2 assists and some seriously excellent work on the blog, not just for this game but in general over the last season or so, you've always got great contributions. Thanks dude!
Honorable Mentions to Matvey and Ken(Mitch) for blog contributions. The blogger is in your debt.
