Suds down Kittys. Shutout win over Tigers.

Schlitz(9) vs. Tigers
Tuesday July 17th
Milton Academy 8:10pm

2-0 Win!

Nice night at the rink, especially in light of what happend to the Zombies the night before. Not much consolation if you didn't play both but hey, when one of us wins...we all win. Great turn out effort wise from everyone who showed. We started the game with 10 even but the roster grew as the evening went on. DWH showed at the end of the first period. Matt brought in some "new blood" later in the second when his buddy Blake Underhill made his rookie appearance with the Suds. Big ups to Blake for having the stones to show and play after not being on the ice for close to 4 years. Welcome to the club Blake...now try standing up during your next shift.
In general this was a very even skate. We match up pretty well with the Tigers, red jerseys, a few old Florida Panther away shirts. They didn't have any ringers or standouts which worked well for us. Good chances at both ends, some good passing by both clubs and good solid defensive play.
OEJ gets a round of applause for yet another shutout. Although he was not tested as much in this game (by his own assesment) as in others, it doesn't matter. A zero is a zero, and dude... you are Dr.ZERO. Thanks for the great play.
Our first goal came on a "seeing eye" slapper from Jeff Fosdick that miraculously made it through the traffic in front, and past the keeper for a lead. Big credit to the forwards mucking and grinding, and screening on the play.
The second goal came as a direct result of a nice end to end rush (Guy LaFleur esque...) by Stephan Wennik. He had a tremendous game, with excellent defensive play and some niffty moves that created some offense here and there. Cagey Vet Nelson Sharfman was on the spot and had a nice finish picking up the rebound from Stephan's shot.
Those two would hold up all night. There was lots of chatter going into the third that the next goal was key... It was, because it never happened. Great work by everyone down the streatch to seal this one away.
Lets do the Game Stars.

3rd Star. Nelson Sharfman. He's had a bit of a resurgence in the last few weeks and now finds himself 4th in combined scoring just percentage points behind 3rd place (Jim Sullivan). Nelson now has 4 goals and 6 assists on the year, most of which has come in the last 2 weeks. Great job Nelson... must have something to do with how dashing you look wearing the yellow.
2nd Star. OEJ. Dr.Zero. Mike Gash. Whatever you want to call him. He's solid and keeps turning in great games. Now sporting a 1.13 GAA in 8 games (6-1-1). Thanks.
1st Star. At the request of OEJ... The Entire Defensive Unit. First pairing Stephan and Dan Gregson played great all night turing away chances and creating a few of their own. Second Pairing Jeff and DWH, and Kevin Parker (first period) also played very well in both zones. Good work everyone.

Items of note: Lizzy came by to watch the third period. What a team player. Sore left eye and all, you are welcome any time. Get that lamp feeling better... I dont want to have to start calling you OEL.

Overheard in the Parking Lot 1:
"Man, I rode that guy all the way down the boards."
"Well... its better than getting rubbed out..."

Overheard in the Parking Lot 2:
"...he likes to take it around the back...a lot."
" ...yeah... and he only likes shooting at the goalies back..."

Games Monday night in Quincy and Thursday night in Hingham next week. Both late.
Get your requests into Kilroy now so we can set rosters.
I may do a scoring update (for all you stat whores...) later in the week.
