Cads Turn Up the Heat on The Lobsters

Cadavers (5) vs Lobsters
Sunday November 9th
Canton 10:30pm
3-3 Tie

A quick double up on the Lobsters meant that we had a second crack at these guys within the same week. The Suds did not fare so well against this group last week... see here... so we were hoping for a "return to form". Hell... thats probably wishfull thinking... I dont think any of us will be returning to any type of "form" any time soon... but one has to hope.

Once again the blogger turns to the trusty, stalwart work by guestblogger iJosh to bring you readers the game story on this one. I think I'm starting to like iJosh's blogs better than mine.... anyway here is iJosh and we may hear a few words from some others before the blog is through....here's Josh:
"Going into this game there was a lot of talk regarding the painful loss of the week prior. A couple of the players were noted to keep an eye out for and our expectations started out a touch low. Even for our standards. Then something odd happened. Kurt Russell barged in the locker room and told us that this was our time. If we played these guys 10 times they might win 9 of them. But not this time. Ah Kurt. If he had only predicted a win instead of not a loss. Eh, worse things have happened. So the Dead in Re..um actually. The Lobsters are red. So this night we would don the Yellow Jerseys, which apparently got the Lobster chuckling as if tonight would be a big night for them (according to Valenti this was true).
So onto the game. To start the 1st we would be a little light on Defense. We had to put a rag tag group together. That would leave us with regular Marc Valenti, occasional defender Kevin Parker and journeyman defender Matvey. The lines would eventually shape up to be: iJosh centering Roman and Mike Fitz; Nelson centering the Kenny line of Ken Mitch and Ken Douville. Early on we would get our chances. And on the 3rd shift paydirt. Nelson would slide it over to Ken D who centered it to K.Mitch who tucked it home. 1-0 Cads.

Both lines would continue to play tough. The Dead in Yellow would continually clog the lane, disrupt their skaters and get in the way. Later in the 1st, Roman would get called for unsportmanlike as he slapped a loose stick out of the way toward the boards. Usually you would think no problem. Except the Lobster was using his pincer to pick it up at the time. So Roman headed to the timeout box. The Deadcans would kill this penalty and again continued to play smart and hard. Then as the Lobsters tried to make a change they would send a puck up the boards. The puck would strike the player getting off the ice with one leg on the bench and the other dangling. Parker would stop as he assumed a penalty call. But the refs cannot count to seven.....yes there were seven Lobsters still on the ice. Their top player #16 would gather the puck and beat Lizzie as he was all alone. After griping the to ref, the response was that it never stuck the player, but trust us it was clear as day. They guy just missed it. The first would end in a 1-1 tie.
The middle period would be more of the same. Good chances, smart play and lots of hustle. Again the Kenny line would capitalize on their effort. This time it would be Nelson would would center the puck to K.Mitch would one timed the puck past the goalie. 2-1 Zombies. The lead would last toward the end of the period. But with about 2:30 left in the period, Matvey would be called for interference in the corner. The PK would play well but with only seconds left in the period, the Lobsters would get their break as the D would breakdown and let #16 skate in again and beat Lizzie for a 2-2 deadlock.
The third played almost the exact same way as the 1st two. Play was pretty hard and everyone was giving it their all. Ken D. would essentially draw a penalty on #10 by skating hard on a chase for the puck deep in the Lobster zone. He would slip in front of her and she could not really prevent herself from putting her hands up, getting the stick too high before the smashed into the boards. That would leave the Cads with a man advantage. The Cads would be unable to score. Valenti would then get called for interference. This time the PK would play well until the final seconds. An errant pass would deflect toward a Lobster as a man or two changed. This lead to the the Lobsters charging in and getting a one goal lead. 3-2 Lobsters. But then the charge was on. The Kenny line would again come through. This time Valenti would send in a shot that Nelson would collect and tuck in before landing on his back, prompting Mike F to ask if he was okay. Answer: I think so. We're just old.

The game would then have a few moments where it got chippy. While trying to set up in front of the net, #8, Lisa White, would get her stick up and catch Lizzie in the side of her neck. As Lizzie yelled, iJosh would then throw the Lobster (honestly she looked like a man, man) out of the crease. This would result in matching minors. As tempers started to get a little hot, Valenti would decide to call timeout and calm things down. This would prove to be a good move as the Cads were able to collect themselves and play good hockey. Seconds later another Lobster would find himself in hot water as he would go off for interference. The Cads were not able to take advantage. But were able to put some pressure on. As the penalties expired, one or two very close calls would almost find their way into the back of the Lobster pot. But the goalie was just quick enough to make the stops. The game would end in a 3-3 tie.
All in all a good game. If not for a couple of breakdowns, this could have been a win. But given the talent on the other team, we were proud to come away with the point. #8, Lisa White, decided not to shake hands for some reason. Maybe we can shake it before the next time we play. Or not. Don't care much. Just something to note.

Though we usually only give stars for a win. This one deserves stars:
#3 Star: Lizzie. She played well. And only got beat when the Lobsters had big advantages.
#2 Star: Gritty Old Nelson. Played hard and set the tone for his line. Not to mention the goal and two assists.
#1 Star: Ken Mitch Goldenberg. Play great positioning all night. Came away with two important goals and barely missed the hat trick. Unfortunately the 4th period would end in a 0-0 tie. Late night Sundays don't appeal to either team this time. "
Phenonminal work Josh. Thanks very much for your story. Lets also check in with a few comments that Radical Russian Roman passed along as well... here's Roman.
"It was a 3-3 tie at the end, but I think we deserved better then that. We pressured them at both ends of the ice all night long, we definitely out chanced them and should of scored more then 3 goals.
Forwards were forechecking and backchecking consistently throughout and were not letting their skaters go through neutral zone with a lot of speed.
They scored 3 goals, one on the botched call where should have been called on too many man on the ice and they scored 2 more goal on power plays on questionable calls. Lizzy played great and made some huge saves to give us more confidence. Definitely one of the stars.

And last and not least, the defense played a super game. Mark, Matvey and Parker were always back in time and didn't give them a lot of chances. I think lobsters were frustrated the whole night that we always had couple of guys back.

One time Mark made a spectacular sliding save to keep puck in their zone and was shooting bombs from the point, Parker was solid as always and was everywhere, I wish I buried his pass on the 2 on 1 that we had. Matvey stepped up and played defense since we only had one real defenceman this game and he did an awesome job, played a very responsible game and broke a lot of their plays, especially number 16 who was trying to run circles around us but would end up losing the puck most of the time.
Mitch scored 2 goals and continues his recent goal scoring streak. "
Alllriiiight! Thanks Roman. Always good to hear from you. Thanks for the notes!

Lets see... I think we've got one more here... Yep... Lizzy checked in with a quick comment:

"Matvy played defense and he was all around great. He's my pick for star of the game, hope he plays d again!...the second goal shouldn't have counted because the net was off due to pushing around the net...and the two new-ish guys Ken and Mike played really well and put in great effort. "

Thanks Liz, and great job last night. We'll see you again tonight!
Also please note Dr. Pounds sent along the essential Blog Nutritional Guide seen just above here. Thanks Scott... good stuff.
