Schlitz (8) vs Tigers
Monday November 10th
Milton Academy
9:20pm
5-2 loss
A good competitive game on Monday night against division rival the Tigers at Milton Academy. The Tigers certainly had a good turnout with at least 3 lines working the game. The Golden Beercans were a plucky nine just before Larry came through the door at the last minute to make an even ten. Larry by the way wins the "fastest dressed" award this week.
The hearty ten were as follows.
O1 iJosh, Jasse and Ken Douville
O2 Larry, Roman and Dr. Pounds
D1 George and Carl
D2 Jeff and Matt Elliot
Lizzy in net.
The game started out pretty well for the Gold and they took the play right to the Tigers in most of the opening minutes. There were a few good chances by both lines, the team got into a good rythem, and Lizzy made some good stops. However... we were not without breakdown. The Tigers made a nice rush that was met by soft D (Jeff) and the resulting breakaway shot trickled through Lizzy after hitting her. Down 1-0. The Gold continued to bring the game to the Red but another breakdown, this time a turnover deep in our end led to a quick shot right in front that made it 2-0 Cats.
Undaunted, the Gold got on the board before the close of the period when rookie Ken Douville fed iJosh with a nice set up. The keeper made the save on Josh but Dr. Jasse was in position to flick it home. The Suds were in it but down 2-1 after 1.
The second saw a familiar parade to the penalty box that often is troublesome to the team. Especially the second period. We seem to break down for part of the game. The Tigers would apply good pressure and get a bunch of good chances. Lizzy held firm and kept the game close. Then Larry took a matching penalty after exchanging a few pleasantires with a Tiger. No big deal but things became worse when George was called and went off moments later. Now down a man for only a short time Jeff would go for a slash/trip to put the suds down 2 men.
The trioca on the ice of Carl, Jasse and iJosh(?) held the cats at bay for the whole first penalty, but the Tigers would score before the end of the second penalty to go up 3-1. Thats how the second would end.
The third was a bit better from the Gold perspective at least at the start... the end, not as much. The Schlitz mounted a good attack in the early going and got some good chances and a few near misses that could have landed.
Then breaking out of our own end Jeff passed up to Larry going up the right side. Jeff continued up ice and Larry passed it back to him as they closed on the slot. Jeff fired it farside low (mostly because he was too weak to lift it) and past the goalie to make the game 3-2.
That was the end of the good times as the comeback would fall short when the penalty bug came back and there were some more breakdowns in the closing minutes. The Tigers scored one to go up 4-2 then added another garbage time tally before the clock ran down to end the game 5-2. Anyone willing to give some more clarity to that description of the end of the third (or any part of the game) is welcome. Please add a comment. I cant remember right at the moment... partly because its now Wednesday night....
Good effort by everyone
