Stats update for all you 'ho's!
Ok Team. Here's the scoop. One game left for both teams, 23 played for each. So there is still technically 2 chances left to "pump up" your numbers, or close in on the coveted Mike Campbell award, if infamy is more your thing. We'll do another update for "end of the regular season" and then one again for the playoffs.
Some interesting things to check out here as the race for points leader comes right down to the wire. Sorry about the bad photoshop... it was all I had time to pull off. Nice rack Larry....
Perennial favorite Larry Bell holds onto a 2 point lead in the top spot, after a relatively slow start, with an impressive 29 points in 23 games played. Right behind him, and well within striking distance, is the preeminent Cagey Veteran Nelson Sharfman with an even more impressive 27 points in just 18 games played. That's a wopping 1.50 Points per game. Not bad for a guy who has been fighting injuries all year.
Also lingering close by is rookie Mike Daley who has had a very nice season so far with 26 points in 22 games.
As always... click to enlarge the stat sheet.
Rounding out the top five are another pair of capable veterans Roman Kurin (25 pts) and iJosh Greenstein (23 pts), are both capable of coming up big and making a run for the top couple spots.
Over on the infamy side of things, check out Mike Campbell showing his dominance in the race to reclaim his namesake award. This one went to Mike Hammitt the last two seasons, but Campbell clearly had his heart set on this years award going to the sin bin early and often. Meanwhile Larry is close behind in his quest to lead everything, and rookie Marc Valenti looks like he could be a force for seasons to come in this department. He's done a nice job competing with the established guys for the PIMs race. Hard to believe but Hammitt has dropped out of the top five here, surpassed statistically by Greg James and Billy Pearlman, all of whom are capable of adding to their totals in the final week. This one is worth watching too.
I'd like to drop in a quick note on the goalies. Mike Gash (OEJ) continues to be the horse, doing nice consistant work all year sporting a nice 10-4-3 record with a 1.94 GAA. Those numbers are as good as you can ask for in this league, and we appreciate your good play Mike. Matt Kilroy continues to develop despite some difficult nights, and it is something to say that his GAA is under 5 given that he played in 13 games and a few got out of hand. Clearly he will be improving on his record as he continues to develop. Great work. The Substitue goalie collumn includes all of the various fill- ins so I wanted to break out Brian Carey's numbers because he's done some nice work for us lately too. In 6 games played for us he is 3-2-1 with a 2.50 GAA (again... just about all you can ask for in this division). Granted he had 2 games against clinic teams, but he also faced our toughest opponent of the year the Golden Gophers, and the Tigers twice. So good work all around, and nice to have you aboard Brian.
Let's keep in mind that the playoffs are around the corner. As per usuall we probably won't get a schedule until just before the games are played... sometimes as close as 48 hours away. It is possible the league will schedule us during the week of that last game coming up.
There are the last two games, The Schlitz play Wednesday 3/26 in Canton @10:20 against the Lobsters, and the Cadavers play Monday 3/31 in Dedham at 10:10 against the Deep Freeze. We could really use both games to gain some momentum going into the playoffs. Check your email for rosters, we'll do a doublecheck at the begining of next week.
Also remember that the Good looking/Bad looking teams are set for the playoffs. So if you played for the Cads in the last Schlidaveur, that's who you play with in the post-season. Likewise for the 'cans... you handsome devils...
As always... all comments and sugestions and mistake pointing out is welcome.
