Zombies crushed by Blues. Its ova.

Cadavers (3-1) vs Blues (3-1)
Tuesday April 27th
Canton 8:30

5-1 loss

Team Zombie headed into the final game of the "losers" bracket last night high hopes and a good attitude against a team we thought we knew pretty well, and came away with a stinger of a loss and an end to the winter season.
The Blues were certainly not the Blues of old, lots of familiar faces but a few key additions. They had a new center that wore #6 who was a powerhouse of speed and ability, and another new addition that wore #88 who was also a big plus. Couple that with good performances by#13 (green socks) and the rest of the regulars and they had a recipe for success against a Zombie squad that was never really in the game.
The roster looked like this.
Jim Sullivan in Net
D1: George and Baker (later Roman)
D2: DWH and Jeff
O1: Larry, Roman(later Baker) and Jasse
O2: Neil, AK, and Goody
O3: Gregson, Nelson, and Dr. Pounds

Things started out ok for a few minutes. It was clear it would be a heck of a game and Jim had to pull out a few really big saves even in the early going. The Red found their skates a little and managed a shot or two but it didn't go long before it went bad.
At twelve minutes in #6 would rip a ridiculous shot off that picked a corner. Four minutes later 88 would score on a bang bang odd man rush. At four minutes left 13 would score on another great shot, and then he would get his second with a minute and a half remaining on another rush. End of the first, 4 - zip bad guys.

Not much hope for the Red but the effort was there in the second and Team Zombie played them to a draw for the whole frame until the very end when 6 would score on a crazy end to end rush with about a minute left. Five nothing Blues after 2.

There would be a bright spot in the third when Steve Baker, who had been moved up to forward in the second, tipped home a nice drive by DWH for a power play goal. They collected another pair of penalties when #3, a notorious douchebag, took out AK in front then headbutted him after Kenny stood up to him. He went for a double but the Red couldn't put anything together on the powerplay. The game would end in some frustration for the Red who had a hard time mounting any consistent attack in the last 5-10 minutes. George went for a rough somewhere in there but nothing happened on that either.
All in all a quite unsatisfying way to end the season.

Thanks to Dr. Jasse and Dan Gregson for the 4th period beer and at least we won that frame standing in the chilly Canton lot wondering how we just had our heads handed to us...

Good season boys. Now don't go crazy in the off-season and we'll see you in a few weeks for spring training...
