Suds down the 'goats. Quincy Smackdown!

Schiltz (8) vs. Scapegoats
Wednesday July 2
Quincy 8:10pm

4-2 Win!

Well well well... another fiesty matchup with our horned divisional rivals the Scapegoats. This team has a certain ability to get scrappy and under our skin for sure. They always play us pretty tight and if last night's game was any indication we should have several more very interesting matchups with this crew the rest of the summer. Good stuff, as far as the blogger is concerned.
Here is where the blogger will turn this game story over to Guest Blogger Extraordinaire iJosh who was a major player in last night's exciting matchup. Here is iJosh's game report.

"Do you want the good news or bad news first?
Okay, the bad news: We had more penalties than the Goats AND more
penalties than goals scored in the game (by either team).
The good news: We had more goals than them. Yes boys and girls this was a rough and tumble game with lots of pushing, shoving, bitching (by both teams and yes I was guilty and probably the worst offender - I'll do better next time...but in my small defense the refs botched the mele in
the 3rd and should have thrown out a player or two).
The Beercans had a strong showing at this one. We started with 11 in the locker room, dropped to 10 by game time and then back up to 12 a few minutes later. Mr. Kilroy showed early to trade cars with Campbell and didn't even bother to stay for the game. Oh well. He missed an
interesting night. Early on the good guys in yellow were playing well and had a few good chances and were not giving the Goats many chances of their own. Then with about 9 minutes left in the period, Mr. Capraro carried the puck into the zone. He would drop the puck as he was draped by a defender. iJosh would pick up the puck above the left circle and run behind the back of the net and come out around, passing the puck across the slot to Dan Gregson who slapped it home in the most perfect way. 1-0 Schlitz. It would stay that way for while as Jim Sullivan would keep the Goats at bay. Later in the period Larry would feed the Other Dan with Hands who would put it home again for a 2-0 lead. And that is how the period would end.
Into the 2nd we go. The Golden Boys would have some more good chances, but nothing new to show. At the 13:20 mark of the period, the Goats would start what would be a trend as #16 is called for tripping. This would be quickly followed by Larry being called for tripping and then iJosh for a phantom trip as he was nowhere near the play. The Goats would get one back during Larry's penalty as #18 would put one home to make it 2-1 Good Guys. And, again, that is how the period would end.

Now we enter the 3rd and things are about to get interesting. So more chances for the Beercans as Mark Reynolds would miss one by an inch and iJosh had a defenseman make a heads up play as he tried to shoot on an almost open net. But still nothing to show. But with about 2 minutes
gone in the period, #18 would drive one home from the point. Now it was a 2-2 game. Then with about 11 minutes left, Larry would go to the box for a hook. As Larry's penalty expired, iJosh jumped on as Larry left the box. iJosh would take a pass from Chuck and skate to the right circle and take a relatively weak-ass slap shot that made its way through to the back of the next. 3-2 Good guys. One the same shift, iJosh would take a shot and Capraro would collect it and send it over to Mark Reynolds, who in one person's opinion deserved at least 2 goals. And this time he put it home to make it 4-2 Schiltz.

Now with a couple of families in the crowd (Greensteins and Goldenbergs) it got U-G-L-Y. And I mean really ugly. After the Goats made a run at the goal and the goalie, Campbell would check the original offender out of the crease. Then #16 would take a run at Campbell and hit him from
behind and into the crossbar. Pearlman, who gets a game star for sticking up for the teammate, then pummeled #16 and hard. Campbell, rightfully wanted the guy's head and the Goats flapped their mouths, but NEVER made another move toward Mike as a few people (Zebras and teammates alike) got in the way to keep Campbell from escalating it further. Then iJosh told
#16 that it was a pussy play and #18 got into a little verbal flap with iJosh (I really should just shut my mouth). The end result one penalty for them and two for us and NO ONE was thrown out (inexcusable. At least #16 and maybe even one of ours should have been tossed).

So the barking continued and then beyond the play as iJosh voiced his displeasure about the lack of any discipline (again I am aware I need to shut my mouth). Play finally resumes and another smaller incident starts when iJosh swipes for the puck and knocks it out of the air, in front of Sullivan and taps the glove of #18. #18 then takes it out on someone else and cross checks them. So end result #18 off and iJosh gone for his 2nd penalty and the 1st one that he actually committed. As time ran out, Pearlman decided that there was no way that iJosh and Larry would get 2 penalties and he only one. So he decided to cross check a Goat and join iJosh in the box.
That is how the game would end. The Skating Cans 4 and the Goats 2.
Game notes:
iJosh needs to shut up and telling the ref off was not a good idea. However after he complained about the lack of any being tossed the refs comment was: "You can't even skate so shut your fucking mouth" was completely uncalled for. So hence the few comments were made.
Jim played great and kept us in this game all night.
#18 told iJosh that he has his number for next game. Now its on record.
Mrs. Greenstein was VERY proud of her husband's behavior but even more displeased with the fact that all her sons could talk about on the ride home was the fight.
Miran made cookies with marshmallow in them and there was beer and the world was right again.
>From the Scoresheet:
Period 1:
Gregson from iJosh and Capraro
Gregson from Larry
Period 2:
Larry for tripping
iJosh for tripping
Period 3:
iJosh from Chuck
Mark Reynolds from Capraro and iJosh
Campbell for roughing
Pearlman for roughing
iJosh for high sticking
Pearlman for cross checking "

OUTSTANDING! The blogger stands and applauds. Great work from the Beercans. As I said at the top of this post, we are certain to see this group again and we should all be aware that they will be eager to pay us back for last nights action. I wish we could play them again next week...
Lets do some...
Game Stars.
3rd Star: Jim Sullivan. By all accounts a very strong game between the pipes. Good work.
2nd Star: Pearlman for the "I got your back" takedown of #16. aaand... Gregson for the two goal night! (thx for correction M.E.)
1st Star: iJosh... a 3 point 2 penalty night and a tremendous guest blog! Attaboy!

Bloggerprops go out to both Greenstein and Goldenberg families entire! Thanks for coming and cheering on our ragged band of skating beercans! We do it all for the fans....

Also some props to (favorite of the blog) Miran James for bringing the cookies. I really want to know how this keeps happening on nights that I'm not skating... I'm going to have to have a little talk with Kilroy about this....
Thats all for now. Remember if you haven't yet... get your Yay or Nay into Kilroy for Tuesday night. We'd like to give the roster to guest GM Roman today sometime if possible.

Otherwise have a safe and fun fourth of july and I'll see you all in Quincy on Tuesday night!
